WebSerial Not Working on Linux (glibc 2.43 Chromium Bug)

Toby Chui edited this page Mar 15, 2026 · 3 revisions

Overview

Some Linux users may experience an issue where keyboard and mouse input does not work when connecting to DezKVM-Go through a Chromium-based browser, even though the device appears to connect successfully.

This issue is not caused by DezKVM-Go itself, but by a WebSerial regression in Chromium when running on systems using glibc 2.43. The problem has been observed on rolling distributions such as Arch Linux and may affect other distributions that have adopted the same glibc version.

Video streaming will still function normally because it uses a different mechanism, but HID control via WebSerial will fail on these specific platforms.

Symptoms

When opening the DezKVM-Go web interface and connecting to the device:

  • The browser successfully detects the device
  • The UI shows the correct VID and PID
  • No errors appear in the browser console
  • The video stream works normally

However:

  • The green LED on the DezKVM-Go PCB does not blink
  • Keyboard and mouse input are not sent to the target machine

Cause

This behavior is caused by a Chromium WebSerial bug triggered by glibc 2.43.

Affected systems may include:

  • Arch Linux
  • Other rolling-release Linux distributions
  • Custom Linux builds using glibc 2.43

Solution

The issue can be resolved by patching and rebuilding Chromium with the fix provided in the bug report.

After rebuilding Chromium with the patch applied, WebSerial functionality should work normally and DezKVM-Go will correctly send keyboard and mouse input.

If rebuilding Chromium is not desirable, possible alternatives include:

  • Using a Chromium build that already includes the patch
  • Waiting for your distribution to ship a patched Chromium package
  • Running Chromium from an older environment that does not use glibc 2.43

Verification

After applying the fix:

  1. Open the DezKVM-Go web interface.
  2. Click Connect KVM.
  3. Select the DezKVM-Go serial device.
  4. Send keyboard or mouse input.

If the connection is working correctly:

  • The green LED will blink when HID events are sent
  • The remote computer will respond to keyboard and mouse input.

Acknowledgements

This issue and workaround were reported by a DezKVM-Go user Jan running Arch Linux. Thanks!

Notes

When the official chromium build environment will move to glibc 2.42 or 2.43 they will finally address this, and in the meantime arch maintainers may patch the chromium package in arch.
