I design, develop and deploy code, and I can lead, engage and develop people. I also solve problems. Simply put, I'm a very useful generalist who makes life better for everyone I'm around.
I’ve been designing, developing, and deploying web applications (and all sorts of web “stuff”) since the late 1990s. I worked in various individual contributor (IC) roles (design/development) until 2016, when I started transitioning into engineering management (EM) roles (senior, lead, head and eventually CTO & CIO). I can do both roles well (or so people tell me) and although they're different in a fundamental way, I experience joy.
I am currently seeking a full-time job (remote, and ideally four days a week, but that's not a show stopper), but it has to be the right one. Until then I'll keep chipping away in my own business (Trees & Code) where I write technical proposals, manage delivery and communication to stakeholders whilst also doing all of the engineering, design and devops work required to take projects from proposal to final delivery and hand over.
I also own a woodland, which I manage myself. I do the odd bit of tree work (I'm a qualified arborist) and spend any spare time I have left in my workshop.
