Splitwave 0.1.0
The first public release of Splitwave: send each Mac app's sound to the output you choose.
Download Splitwave.dmg below, open it and drag Splitwave into Applications. Requires macOS 14.2 or later; runs on Apple silicon and Intel.
First launch
This build isn't notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks it the first time. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to Splitwave. Then allow system audio recording when asked; Splitwave needs it to move an app's sound and never records or saves anything.
What's in it
- An output per app: one device, or several at once under Also play on
- A volume, mute and live level meter for every app
- Setups: save every app's outputs and volume and switch in one click, from Shortcuts (
splitwave://setup/Name) or the command line - Routes fall back to the system output when a device disconnects and come back when it reconnects
- Routes rebuild themselves when Bluetooth headphones switch to call mode
- A
splitwavecommand-line tool inside the app
Known limits
- Browsers route as a whole (every tab plays through one process)
- On several outputs at once, Bluetooth devices run 100–200 ms behind wired ones
- Some copy-protected video plays silently once routed
