The phone app and desktop are 3.1.9, and the server is 3.1.7.

Calls and connections

• Lost connections come back on their own, every few seconds, without pressing Try now.
• If your connection drops for a moment, you keep your place in the call for up to 90 seconds.
• Someone being quiet in a call no longer makes the call rebuild itself.
• Kicks and bans take people out of the call at once.

Phone

• Calls hold on with the screen off. If the phone pauses Codec, it restarts and rejoins the call by itself.
• Tap a stream tile to watch it in the grid, with a Stop button. Double-tap any tile for full screen.
• Fixed: names were missing from the member list.
• Fixed: the green call bar covered the newest message.

Desktop

• Tall (portrait) screens now stream sharp instead of squeezed.

A new phone app

• Built from the ground up in the desktop look: charcoal, d3mon green, grey Byte pictures and REP badges.
• Four tabs at the bottom: Server, Messages, Notifications and You.
• Server: channels, forum, rules and events. Tap a channel to open it. Swipe right to go back, swipe left for the member list.
• Hold a message for reactions, Reply, Edit, Copy, REP and more.
• Messages: friends, requests and DMs in one list.
• Notifications: mentions, replies, forum posts and friend requests in one feed.
• You: your profile card, picture framer, settings and admin pages.
• Calls open full screen and shrink to a green pill while you keep chatting. You can watch streams, sideways too.
• The Back button, status bar and keyboard all follow the app.

Pictures anywhere

• Pictures can be posted in any channel you may write in. Other files still need a DM with a friend.
• Pictures are turned upright and lose hidden data (location, camera details) before they are stored.

Desktop

• Pictures in channels (with server 3.1.6).
• Fixed: a DM opened right after the rules page had no message box.

Desktop is 3.1.6 and the server is 3.1.5. The phone app stays on 3.1.0.

• Forum formatting: posts support headings, quotes (nested too), bullet and numbered lists, --- lines, code blocks and [text](link) links.
• Forum notifications: new topics show a toast in the app, or a desktop pop-up when Codec is in the background. Several new topics in a row become one notice. You also hear about replies to your topics and about @mentions.
• Forum bell: pick All, Replies, Mentions or Off in the forum header. Unread topics carry a NEW tag.
• REP: vote ▲ or ▼ beside the picture on channel messages and forum posts.
• REP badge on every profile card, plus a small one on forum posts, the member list and your own card.
• Earned roles: a role can be given automatically at a set REP. Earned roles can't moderate.
• Settings > Admin > REP: turn REP on or off, set the REP needed to vote down and the badge levels, and recalculate.
• Vote on REP is a new power in Roles & ranks.
• Fixed: a link could carry hidden code into chat or the forum.

Codec 3.1.5

Desktop is 3.1.5 and the server is 3.1.4. The phone app stays on 3.1.0.

• Edit your own messages: use the pencil, the "…" menu, or press Up in an empty message box. Everyone sees the change live, marked "(edited)".
• Avatars: every way to change your picture opens the square framer, with zoom from the whole picture up to 4×. Upload yours again to fix a cut-off picture.
• No picture? You show as a grey Byte.
• Right-click a friend: Message, Call, View profile, Remove friend, Block or Unblock, Copy username. Blocking now works and also stops calls, shakes, invites and friend requests.
• Voice: the speaker and count next to a channel are bigger and d3mon green, and stream, camera, mute and deafen show as green icons.
• Calls: "Speaker" is now Theater, the grid uses even 16:9 tiles, and Chat opens the channel's chat beside the call.
• Stream theater sits in the app's frame, with a header row and borders like the rest of the window.
• Full-screen streams fill the screen edge to edge; the controls hide when the mouse is still.
• Streaming audio: one clear Audio dropdown when you start a stream: No audio, Whole system, or a single app. Your last choice is remembered.
• Bottom-left card: voice status, your name and your buttons in one card.
• Dots on Friends (requests, unread DMs) and Live (someone in your call is streaming).
• Server name: superusers can rename the server in Settings > Admin > Server.
• The server's default channel no longer shows a picture.

Desktop is 3.1.4 and the server is 3.1.3. The phone app stays on 3.1.0.

• /broadcast is back. Its card, sound and pop-up show only in the channel it was sent in. Who may use it follows your rank settings.
• /sbroadcast is gone. Server-wide broadcasts are refused for everyone.
• /help shows a card only you can see: the commands you can use and a full formatting guide.
• Forum @mentions: type @ in a topic, reply or edit to pick a person. They get a desktop notification that opens the topic.
• Forum pictures: paste, drop or attach PNG, JPG, GIF or WebP pictures (up to 10 per post). Click one to see it full size. Links to outside pictures stay plain links.
• Bots are kept out of the forum.

Desktop is 3.1.3 and the server is 3.1.2. The phone app stays on 3.1.0.

• New: Forum. Every server gets its own forum, in a FORUM section of the channels list under rules and events.
• Open a category to see its topics (pinned first), start topics, reply, and edit or delete your own posts.
• Settings > Admin > Forum (superusers): add, rename, reorder and delete categories, and set who can see, post, reply and moderate in each.
• Moderators can lock, pin and delete only when given the permission, and only for people of lower rank.
• The events badge, the next event's border and its countdown are d3mon green.

Server and desktop are 3.1.1. The phone app stays on 3.1.0.

• Files only between friends. Files and pictures can only be sent in a direct message with a friend. Sketchpad shares, GIFs and links still work in channels.
• File cards show as one tidy row again.
• Profile pictures fit the whole picture. Upload yours again to get it.
• Ranks: one rank dropdown on a profile, shown only to people who may change it. Channel permissions list the highest rank first. The rank table now decides who manages channels, kicks and bans.
• Sketchpad: admins and moderators get Clear all.
• Empty server field on a fresh install: type the server you want to join.
• Layout: fixed, wider channels bar so long names fit; Members, Friends and Live in calls; voice connection info in the server card; bolder Sign out and Settings buttons; event reminders in green.
• Fixes: cameras that stayed black, squashed broadcast cards, the popped-out sketchpad's font, and leftover node and space settings removed.

Phones on 3.1.0 can no longer post pictures in channels.

Server, desktop and mobile are all 3.1.0.

• Server roles. Ranks SUPERUSERS, ADMINS, MODERATORS and MEMBERS, each with its own name colour. Superusers decide what each rank may do (change ranks below their own, kick, ban, mute in chat, server-mute or deafen in calls, manage messages and channels, and more). Nobody can act on someone of the same or a higher rank. Superusers can also make their own named, coloured roles and use them in channel permissions. Find it in Settings, ADMIN, Roles & ranks.
• Member lists show everyone who can see the channel, online or offline.
• Friends sits at the top right next to Members: friend requests on top, friends below, your latest chat in the middle. The old Mailbox window is gone. On the phone, the Friends tab shows the same list.
• Call buttons are always there. Mute or deafen before you join; the call button joins the channel or calls the person you're chatting with.
• Read the rules first. Posting, reacting and joining voice need the server rules read once, and again when they change.
• The sketchpad opens in its own window on desktop, and Share to chat works again, in direct messages too.
• The Lobby button is gone: click the green "in voice" button to open the video lobby.

Server owners: back up codec.db before upgrading. The rules check only starts once your rules page has been saved.

Server, desktop and mobile are all 3.0.1.

• Simpler sidebar. Just SERVER and CHANNELS on the left. A Friends button opens your friends and chats.
• Calls with one person happen in your messages with them, never as a channel.
• Categories. Server owners lay out channels in their own categories and choose who can see or use each one. Only superusers create channels and categories. Everyone allowed sees new ones straight away.
• Cleaner look on desktop and phone. Solid grey panels, no blue tint, no background grid (the sketchpad keeps its grid).
• Server admin moved into Settings, under ADMIN.
• Phone tabs: Friends and Live. Live shows the voice channel you're in. The app reopens your last channel, and pages reach the screen edges.
• Square profile pictures with a crop picker. Upload yours again if it looks off-centre.
• Phone: channel menus, categories, permissions and channel settings fit the screen; the Friends badge counts friend requests; a long press no longer eats your next tap.
• Fixes: scrolling up in chat no longer snaps back; broadcasts show as a card; on Linux, streaming through an audio router (like AuxPipe) no longer plays the call back to the people in it.

Server owners: back up codec.db before upgrading. Going back to 3.0.0 shows channels hidden only by a category rule.

Codec 3.0.0

Server, desktop and mobile are all 3.0.0. A whole new look, and a lot more to do in it.

• New look. Channels down the left, chat in the middle, people and video on the right, with frosted panels over Codec's grid. On phones: Channels, Messages, Voice and You tabs, with a call bar while you're in a call. Prefer it solid? Settings, Appearance.
• Text channels are back. Moderators and admins can make, rename and delete them. Each shows unread counts, @ marks and who is in its voice call.
• Rules and events. A SERVER section with the rules and an "I've read the rules" button, plus events you can say Going or Maybe to, with a notice when one starts.
• Reactions and replies, in channels and direct messages. On a phone, long-press a message.
• Polls: type /poll in a channel.
• Per channel: choose your notifications (everything, mentions only or nothing). Staff can set who may see, send, react or sketch.
• Accent colour in Settings, Appearance.
• Sketchpad in every channel, with everyone's pointer moving live.
• Video lobby, stream view and a new settings window.

Server owners: back up codec.db before upgrading. Going back to 2.6.x hides the new channels again.
