6. A discussion of the game design experience and suggested improvements for future development of our project.

The overall design experience was eye-opening. Whilst the process was quite challenging from time to time, the GameWarriors team enjoyed the entire design and development process. The team worked extremely hard in order to complete the project required in the desired time frame.

The team followed the following iterative design process: Client requirements -> project brief -> design ideas and documentation -> game development -> game testing -> game documentation.

As per the team roles, Devashish Dhyani focused mainly on the development of AI on the enemies. Lakshya Oberoi was in the lead of the graphics and the GUI of the game. The team together worked on building the main game framework and its components. Working as part of a team exposed us to understand the importance of good coding practice and communication via commenting.

While the game was developed with specific time constraints, some suggested future development ideas that could be implemented in the case of expansion are:

  • Retry Level – The ability for Zelda to retry a level and be able to freely flow to and from a level to collect more powerups as required. This will enhance the overall flow of the game and the stages of the forest.
  • Improve Randomisation – By improving the element of randomization, the enemy movement will become more unpredictable and thus will improve the quality of gameplay.
  • Additional Levels – Currently the game is restricted with 5 default levels. For an extensive storyline and to make the game more exciting, the game would need more levels or stages where Zelda encounters a range of animals.
  • Multiplayer Shooting – An important, more immediate improvement that could be added is a feature that enables Player 2 to shoot via a second mouse input in Multiplayer mode. This makes it fair for both players and will allow both players to enjoy, appreciate and play the mode more.
