The objective of this project was to create an offline Java application that takes user input and responds accordingly and to develop computer Artificial Intelligence (AI) to play against the user. To meet this objective with the added purpose of understanding fundamental software coding practices and the iterative design process, GameWarriors were tasked with recreating the original 'Legends of Zelda' targeted towards a 12-year-old girl.

'Zelda Reborn', is a modernized version of the original game, with Zelda as the protagonist. The game is staged with the setting of a forest, where Zelda's mission is to collect special fruits to rescue her best friend Link. During the game, Zelda comes across various animal enemies which she must overcome or fight off in order to stay alive. Each level contains power-ups and power-downs that assist and affect Zelda's movement. The AI of each animal is modified based on the level and enhances as you progress through the game, thus making the game harder over the levels. The player also has the option to set the difficulty which modifies the speed and health of the animals. As an additional feature in the game, GameWarriors have implemented a multiplayer mode which allows the 12-year-old girl to challenge and play against her friends in an open-battle duel.

This game was developed on a Linux operating system using Eclipse Java 1.8 as the software tool. It uses appropriate Java development libraries allowing for calculations, image processing and sound outputs. The graphical development has been done on a variety of tools such as Photoshop, Paint and Piskel to name a few. The game has been designed to not only meet the client’s minimum requirements but to also have bonus features and effects. This enhances the overall gameplay and makes it interactive for the audience.

This report outlines the system features, system implementation and the overall software architecture used to develop the game. Development experience and suggested improvements to the game have also been included.
