Mail Drop 0.10.0
Mail Drop 0.10.0 can delegate document link/embed syntax to Attachment Link Rules 0.2.0 or later while retaining original bytes, duplicate handling and date + kebab-case names.
Choose “Use attachment rules” under Attachment drops. Configure image embeds and the “Use links” policy for other extensions in Attachment Link Rules. Mail import, the paperclip heading and collapsed email preview remain owned by Mail Drop. Existing standalone modes are preserved.
- Native Wiki/Markdown preference is honored in cooperation mode.
- Slow imports and either load order avoid duplicate processing.
- If the formatter is unavailable, imported files remain saved and native syntax is used with a recovery notice.
Validation: plain npm ci, strict lint, 58 tests, TypeScript/build, native receiver checks and 115 paired synthetic DOM checks in actual Obsidian 1.13.7 on macOS arm64. Previous real provider acceptance remains historical; no new provider, mobile, Intel runtime or minimum-version runtime claim.
The standard plugin needs only main.js, manifest.json and styles.css. Direct Outlook/Apple Mail dragging still requires the separately installed macOS 13+ receiver, enabled explicitly. No self-installer. The receiver is universal and ad-hoc signed, not Apple-notarized. Earlier releases remain available for rollback. No GitHub Actions were used.
Mail Drop 0.9.2
Mail Drop 0.9.2 fixes the clean Community release-builder environment. The standard plugin build and bundled license generation now use only Node.js; Python is only used locally to package optional manual download archives.
- Standard build succeeds with Python absent from PATH.
- Runtime main.js and all 14 bundled license notices are byte-identical to the validated 0.9.1 runtime.
- Plain npm ci, strict official lint, TypeScript, 56 tests and native checks pass.
- Minimum Obsidian 1.5.7. Standard installation imports EML/document files without a receiver.
- Direct Apple Mail/Outlook app dragging uses an explicitly enabled, separately installed macOS receiver. See the receiver guide.
Use the standard ZIP or main.js + manifest.json + styles.css. The receiver archive is separate; the full macOS archive remains available for manual installation. Verify downloads with SHA256SUMS.txt.
The receiver requires macOS 13+, is universal arm64/x86_64 and ad-hoc signed, not Apple notarized. Intel is build-tested only. The original 0.9.1 release remains unchanged. Community registration is separate from publicly publishing the listing.
Mail Drop 0.9.1
Mail Drop 0.9.1 requires Obsidian 1.5.7 or newer.
- Standard three-file installation imports existing EML files and documents without a native executable or a missing-helper startup error.
- Direct dragging from Apple Mail or Outlook uses an explicitly enabled, separately installed macOS receiver. Download the receiver archive, install it yourself, and choose its absolute path in settings. See the receiver guide.
- English settings work with modern searchable settings and the legacy rendering fallback.
- Plain npm ci, strict official lint, 56 regression tests, bundle/native checks and 11 checks in a separate real Obsidian vault pass. The exact-source official Community preview completed without displayed errors or warnings.
Downloads: use the standard ZIP or main.js + manifest.json + styles.css for the plugin. The receiver ZIP is separate; the full macOS ZIP remains available for manual installation. Verify downloads against SHA256SUMS.txt.
The receiver requires macOS 13+, is universal arm64/x86_64 and ad-hoc signed, not Apple notarized. Actual provider testing has been on Apple Silicon; Intel is build-tested only. All parsing stays local. Community listing/release review is separate from source preview completion.
Mail Drop 0.9.0 — first public prerelease
Mail Drop saves emails dragged from Apple Mail and Microsoft Outlook beside the target Obsidian note, with a paperclip heading, an original EML link, and a collapsed preview.
This first public prerelease includes:
- English settings, notifications, errors, and new email entries.
- Optional “Added by” name; blank on new installations.
- Image embeds and plain links for PDFs, spreadsheets, and other documents.
- Optional date prefixes, kebab-case filenames, and attachment extraction.
- Original byte preservation and duplicate protection.
- A universal macOS receiver for Apple Silicon and Intel. Apple Silicon has been tested with real mail drags; Intel builds but has not yet been tested on real hardware.
Install
Download mail-drop-0.9.0-macos.zip, extract outlook-drop-importer into your vault's .obsidian/plugins/ folder, and enable Mail Drop. Keep your existing data.json when upgrading. Requires macOS 13+ and Obsidian desktop 1.5.0+.
Use the complete ZIP: the standard three-file Obsidian installation does not include the required native receiver. This plugin has not been submitted to the Community directory. The receiver is ad-hoc signed, not Apple notarized; see the README for installation and macOS security notes.
All email parsing is local. No accounts, network requests, telemetry, or mailbox-database access.
Verification
49 unit/regression tests; 17 native source-selection cases; three AppKit pasteboard cases; ten file-completion cases; and a two-mail production-watcher fixture pass. English settings and synthetic imports were also checked in Obsidian. npm audit reports zero known vulnerabilities for the locked dependencies at release time.
