First public release of AlphaDesk: a dense, self-hosted market-research terminal that runs no AI model of its own, and hands the same records to your own agent over MCP.

Install

pip install alphadesk
python -m alphadesk.main dashboard

The built interface ships inside the package. Two settings are required: a vault key that seals stored vendor keys, and an SEC user-agent string with contact details — see alphadesk/deploy/env.example.

As an MCP server

alphadesk-mcp starts the agent server on stdio: 37 read-only tools over quotes and charts, SEC EDGAR filings and XBRL financial statements, Form 4 insider trades, news, earnings and corporate calendars, options chains, crypto and the US Treasury yield curve. Every call runs as the reader whose credential it carries, on that reader's own vendor keys, with no write surface.

Listed in the official MCP registry as io.github.vigneshv1cky/alphadesk-terminal.

What needs a vendor key, and what does not

SEC EDGAR and US Treasury data need no key at all — filings, statements and insider trades work on a fresh install. Everything else runs on keys you connect yourself (Alpaca, FMP, Finnhub, Polygon, CoinGecko, Tiingo and others), under your own agreement with that vendor.

Also in this release

  • Docker image build from the repository, with the embedding model baked in.
  • Search by meaning over headlines, self-hosted on CPU; switch it off with ALPHADESK_SEMANTIC_SEARCH=off.
  • 745 backend tests, 132 frontend tests.
