Release list
Thunder-G 0.23.0
New and improved
- Optional Gmail keyboard shortcuts (#30): Enable under Settings → Writing. Includes Command+Enter/Ctrl+Enter to send, compose/reply/forward, mail actions, selection, navigation, folder jumps and formatting controls. Press
?for help. Disabled by default; letter shortcuts are ignored while typing. - Performance and memory improvements (#27): Release discarded translated UI elements, avoid unrelated mailbox rescans and redraws, and reuse Sent reference indexes across conversations.
- Per-message forwarding (#28): Reply, reply all or forward from each expanded message’s three-dot menu. Forward an earlier message with its own original body and attachments.
- Gmail-style message controls (#29): Star → Reply → More, with matching keyboard order and consistent sizing and spacing.
Validation
All 300 JavaScript tests and 14 Python tests pass. Features were checked locally in Thunderbird; sending shortcut validation did not send any email.
Download the XPI to install, or use Thunderbird’s add-on update check for an existing GitHub-distributed installation. Source ZIP, SHA-256 checksums and automatic-update metadata are included.
Thunder-G 0.22.1
- Label backup and restore (#25): Export labels and message assignments for one or all accounts. Preview a restore before applying it; preserve existing labels and report missing or ambiguous messages. Available under Settings → Import/Export.
- Gmail-style label picker (#23): Display nested labels as full paths in a flat list, with aligned checkboxes. The sidebar keeps its nested hierarchy.
- Complete embedded forwards (#24): Include the original message text or HTML, attachments, and inline images when forwarding from a conversation.
- Message-list layout fixes: Hide native thread/watch status icons and prevent checkbox/star overlap; align the toolbar selection checkbox.
Validation: 292 JavaScript tests and 14 Python tests passed. Embedded forwarding was also verified locally in Thunderbird.
Install the XPI below, or use Thunderbird’s add-on update check for an existing GitHub-distributed installation. The source archive and SHA-256 checksums are included.
Thunder-G 0.21.0
-
Show a startup splash while the visible mailbox becomes usable, then fade it away. Slow startup uses a dismissible waiting card; include English/Italian text, dark mode and reduced-motion support.
-
Apply label changes to separate local Inbox/Sent copies of the same Message-ID, and retain reply label inheritance when resuming a saved inline draft.
-
Let new inline replies inherit the conversation’s existing labels on their saved Sent copies, including after navigating away from the conversation.
Thunder-G 0.20.1
-
Use the same message-list column layout in every account and folder, including Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and searches. Restore saved native layouts when the add-on is disabled.
-
Accept dragged files throughout embedded new-message composers as attachments, using the same native attachment conversion as replies. Preserve text dragging, inline image targets and attachment reordering.
Thunder-G 0.20.0
-
Restore the skin when reopening mail windows and retry panes that finish initializing late.
-
Add Gmail-style All, None, Read, Unread, Starred and Unstarred selection controls, with clearer partial-selection behavior and animated row actions.
-
Add optional compaction for long conversations and preserve the return path from label views.
-
Add English and Italian localization with a live language selector and an Apply recommended settings preset.
-
Keep the label shortcut active from selection checkboxes; expand unread conversation messages, exclude them from compact history, and refresh list read-state styling on return.
-
Do not create drafts for empty replies: automatic saves and closing the inline composer require new non-whitespace body text beyond the initial quote/signature. Existing drafts still save deletions.
-
Prevent native button minimum sizes from expanding composer resize handles over the close button and other title-bar actions.
-
Preserve the existing compact composer toolbar and Cc/Bcc placement on the recipients row when using Thunderbird 159’s grid layout.
-
Offer Auto draft saving after 1.5 seconds without edits, or fixed intervals of 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes, in inline and classic composers. Include recipients, subject and attachment changes; defer during IME composition or an active save.
-
Load saved MIME drafts directly into the inline composer without opening a temporary native compose window.
-
Scroll directly to the resumed inline draft after its editor is ready; cancel the scroll when the user has already navigated elsewhere.
-
Adapt embedded composer addressing to Thunderbird 159’s native grid layout, keeping the existing flex layout on earlier releases.
-
Extend the supported Thunderbird range to 153–159.x, retaining the existing 153 minimum and compatibility with 154–158.
-
Show a red “Bozza” (Italian) or “Draft” beside the sender for saved drafts and conversations with a saved reply draft, including collapsed threads. Update the indicator after draft saves, sends, moves, and deletions. With inline replies enabled, clicking the message opens the conversation and resumes its saved draft below the last message; otherwise open the saved draft in the classic composer; when several drafts match, open the most recent. The red indicator remains plain text.
Thunder-G 0.19.1
-
Keep bottom-posted and interleaved replies visible instead of folding new answers with quoted history, in both immediate previews and saved conversation messages.
-
Keep Refresh and the neighboring toolbar action hover backgrounds circular by overriding native minimum button dimensions.
-
Align the select-all toolbar checkbox with the message-row checkboxes.
-
Match immediate sent-message previews to conversation cards and load the saved message in the same card without forcing a scroll or leaving a blank body during loading.
