refactor: use node.js api rather than unix commands #1488

This partially fixes Windows compat issue #1482. (snyk requires unix patch https://github.com/snyk/snyk/issues/48).

I think the highlight:build part can also be fixed in the forked repo side by making --output receive a full file path, what do you think? @marcoscaceres
