WCPOS App 2.0.0 beta 1. A public beta of the 2.0 app: for testing against the matching 2.0.0-beta.1 plugins only. The app and the plugin must both be on 2.0; a 1.11 app asks for an update when it meets a 2.0 plugin.

Sync every till before upgrading. 2.0 starts a new local database and does not carry over sales a 1.11 till has not sent yet. Rolling back to 1.11 also starts from an empty local database, so sync before you roll back too.

WCPOS 2.0 gives the POS its own checkout: cash, split payments and card readers handled at the register itself, with a cash drawer that opens and closes with each shift. Around it, every screen is redrawn in a new design, and the till keeps taking cash when the connection drops.

Highlights

  • A checkout that belongs to the POS. Checkout now opens in a tender pane beside the cart, where the keypad is the screen, instead of sending every sale through WooCommerce's order-pay page. The old pay page is still there as a tab for gateways that need it.
  • Split payments. Take one order in several payments, for example part cash and part card. The split is shown as a plan, with the payment you are taking now on its own line.
  • Card readers connected straight to the POS (Pro). Stripe Terminal and SumUp readers pair with the till itself, over Bluetooth, and the POS shows each step of the card payment as it happens. A new Settings > Card readers page connects, updates, disconnects and forgets readers.
  • Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android. With Stripe, the phone or tablet running WCPOS can take contactless cards itself, with no separate reader. An administrator sets it up once from Settings > Card readers.
  • Registers and cash drawer sessions. Each register can open and close a drawer session: an opening float, cash in and out during the shift, a count at close and the difference against what was expected. Turn it on in POS settings; the register bar on the POS shows which till you are on and its session.
  • Closures are saved, numbered documents. Closing the register writes a numbered closure with the drawer count, tenders, taxes, discounts and items sold, which you can reprint, recount and export. On Pro, a Closures room in Reports lists every session.
  • Cash sales keep going when the connection drops. While offline, the till takes cash and records the sale, and asks the cashier to confirm first. The register bar, the receipt and the open-orders list all say "awaiting store" until the store has the sale.
  • A new Reports screen. Sales for any period with a comparison, a chart and cards for orders, top products, taxes, refunds, payments, categories and cashiers, plus cost, profit and margin. Every report prints through a report template and exports to CSV.
  • A customer-facing display (Pro). Open the display page on any device's browser, pair it to a till with a code, and it shows the cart and total as you ring the sale up. Pick a display design from the template gallery.
  • A redesigned POS. Every screen moves to a new design, with a Scale setting for compact, regular or spacious layouts. Four personality themes (Paper till, Warm shop, Bold money and Market stall) set colours, type and shape, and you can choose an icon set.

Everything else

Register

  • Pick a register from a list that shows its state and who opened it.
  • Hand the till to another cashier from the cashier sheet. The sheet asks before it hands over, switches store or switches register, and can print a hand-over slip.
  • Take the drawer with you when you switch store.
  • Signing out asks you to close the register first. Switching is held while a payment or a count is in progress, or while the till is offline.
  • Card and gateway sales need an open register session when sessions are on.
  • Open carts belong to the cashier, store and register they were started on.
  • A register tied to one store skips the store picker at sign-in.
  • Every till has its own identity, and each sale keeps the time and register it was really made on. This is the groundwork fiscal rules need; it holds for sales made offline too.
  • Store health has a Registers panel. It checks each register for gaps or duplicates in its numbering, clock skew and tills that never registered.

Checkout

  • Checkout opens at once while the order saves.
  • Cash rounding. Set a rounding increment on a cash gateway and the tender rounds the amount due.
  • The Paid moment and the receipt stay on the till.
  • A sale that is interrupted mid-payment is picked up again when the till restarts.
  • A payment the store refused stays in Orders as needing attention until someone deals with it.
  • A gateway attempt that never answered can be cleared by staff.
  • Gateways that wait for the customer show their own fields and status in the tender pane.
  • Checkout checks stock before it takes payment.

Payments and readers

  • The till remembers the card reader it last used for each gateway.
  • SumUp offline card payments on Solo and Solo Lite.
  • Tips taken on the card reader are recorded on the order as a Tip fee line.
  • A refund can go back to the original payment method when the provider supports it.

Products and cart

  • Quick discount at the till. Add discount offers a quick discount or a coupon in one sheet; a quick discount is written as a coupon line, so negative fees are no longer needed.
  • Choose whether the cart sits on the left or the right.
  • Quick filter buttons. Build your own filter buttons for the products bar, or save the filters on screen as one.
  • Browse products by category. Drill into categories from the products panel, with a breadcrumb back out.
  • In the grid, a variable product deals its variations out as tiles.
  • Product tiles show the picture as a poster.
  • Prices, stock and quantities edit in place with a keypad. The price keypad carries quick-discount keys.
  • The quantity keypad hides its decimal key unless the store allows decimal quantities.
  • Tax-exempt orders. A Tax exempt switch in the order details sheet re-taxes the cart, coupons included.
  • The cart strip holds every open cart.
  • Products on sale show the regular price struck through.
  • The cart's customer chip picks the customer, and its pin edits the order's address.
  • The Tax rates panel marks the rates that apply to the current address.
  • Cart sheets save as you edit them.
  • Search covers every collection on the device, custom fields included.
  • One barcode scan adds the product once, and a scanned variable product opens in search.

Customers and orders

  • One order window with View, Edit and JSON tabs.
  • Filter orders by payment method and by register.
  • The Orders, Customers, Coupons and Products pages are redrawn.
  • Edit forms save each field as you change it.
  • The Products page drills into a variable product's variations.
  • Customers carry tax IDs.
  • Date filters and reports follow the store's timezone, not the device's.
  • Refunds record the register and session they were made in.

Receipts and printing

  • One print sheet for every document.
  • Report and closure templates sit beside receipt templates. Settings > Printing lists each template type with its printer.
  • Receipts carry the software version, the register and a real QR code.
  • Reprinted receipts are counted and marked as copies.
  • Print a refund as a credit note.
  • The test print exercises every printer capability, logo included.
  • An unpaid order prints no payment.

Customer display

  • Pair a display from Settings > Customer display with a code.
  • A gallery of display templates.

Sync and offline

  • A new local database engine on every platform.
  • On the web, the POS runs in one browser tab at a time. A second tab shows a Take over here button instead of a second copy of the register.
  • The web app downloads less before the first screen appears.
  • Payments, cash movements and closes are sent as single commands that recover after a crash.

Settings and admin

  • Settings has a section rail on a shared page bar.
  • Notifications open in a side panel with an action on each row.
  • Keyboard shortcuts. Alt-key shortcuts for POS commands, with a help sheet.
  • Larger touch targets, readable contrast and named buttons for screen readers.

Desktop

  • The desktop title bar is part of the app. It shows the store, the notifications bell and the cashier.
  • Desktop updates only offer newer builds of the app's own channel.

Mobile

  • Android no longer asks for permissions at launch.
  • Menus and selects open as bottom sheets on phones.
  • iPad layouts keep clear of the screen's rounded edges.

Developer changes: sync protocol 3, where money moves only through payment commands and never on the order push; every app database schema restarts at version 0 in a new generation (v10); action events and named commands for POS extensions; Expo SDK 58 and React Native 0.88; @wcpos/sync-core and @wcpos/sync-engine as publishable packages.

Breaking changes and requirements

  • WCPOS 2.0 needs WooCommerce 9.0 or later.
  • The app and the plugin must both be on 2.0. A 2.0 app will not work with a 1.11 plugin, and a 1.11 app asks for an update when it meets a 2.0 plugin.
  • Sync every till before you upgrade. 2.0 starts a new local database and does not carry over sales a 1.11 till has not sent yet.
  • Rolling back to 1.11 starts from an empty local database. The till re-syncs from the store; anything 2.0 had not sent stays behind, so sync before you roll back too.
  • The experimental magnetic card reader is removed.
  • Card terminal extensions need WCPOS Pro from 2.0. This includes Stripe and SumUp.
