URL: http://www.google.com/hangouts/
Browser / Version: Firefox 33.0
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.9
Problem type: Looks like the website has a bug.
Site owner: No

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Navigate to: http://www.google.com/hangouts/
  2. Click "Get Hangouts"
  3. Click "Computers"

Expected Behavior: tells you how to get hangouts (which works in all major browsers)
Actual Behavior: tells you your browser won't work and to download Chrome

I'm logged into Google, but I see the same window in a private browsing session.

Note that I'm using Firefox Nightly

33.0a1 (2014-07-07)
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.9; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0

with a clean profile, I never save my previous state for Firefox Nightly. So it's like a fresh browser.
I don't have the screen you have. I wonder if they are testing a new UI with A/B testing.

In Firefox, when I click "computer", I get the download page of Chrome. Same in Safari.
In Opera (blink) nothing happens.

FWIW I get the same "install Chrome" behavior from Firefox 31.0 on Linux.

Interesting,

The "Only Chrome" thing in http://www.google.com/hangouts/ is not correct and an error/confusing UI. Will be fixed. CC @andreasgal @angelinamagnum

I removed "needsinfo" because it sounds like the issue is identified and known :) Still an issue.

Is hangout still blocked/unusable for non-chrome users?
In the Japanese version I receive you can download only for iOS, Android and Chrome.

After login to https://hangouts.google.com/
I can use it. It's not blocked anymore. Let me set that as resolved.
