NODE 0.9.9 (beta)
NODE 0.9.9 lets you share a trail with someone, and talk it through in threads. Thank you for testing.
NODE updates itself on Windows, and on a Mac from 0.9.6 on. Copies of 0.9.5 or earlier on a Mac need this version downloaded by hand once.
What's new
- Threads in a trail. In Menu → Trail, start a thread: a question or a line of inquiry. Reply, and answer replies, like a Reddit thread. Mark a thread resolved with a short conclusion, add tags, or link the page you're on. When a keyword shows up on several pages, NODE offers to make it a thread.
- Notes on pages. Every page in the trail has Add note.
- Your name. Threads, replies and notes carry a display name. NODE asks for it the first time. You can change it in Settings → Sharing. There is no account.
- Share a trail. File → Share Trail… (or Share… in Menu → Trail) saves the trail as a
.trail.mdfile. Untick any page you don't want to send. Research reports go with it; open tabs only if you tick them. Send the file with any app: Messages, email, Telegram, Discord or AirDrop. Sign-in and payment pages, private parts of web addresses and tracking codes never go in the file. - Open a shared trail. File → Open Shared Trail…, drop the file on NODE, or on a Mac use Open With → NODE in Finder. You see who sent it and what's in it, then choose Open as New Trail or Merge into one of yours. A merge never removes anything: everyone's replies and notes stay, and NODE asks which thread status, tags and pinned keywords to keep.
- Works with AI. The trail file is plain Markdown. You can give it to an AI assistant to summarize, or to answer in a thread, and open it again in NODE.
- Thread count in the sidebar. The trail line shows how many threads the trail has.

| Mac with an Apple chip (M1, M2, M3, M4 or later) | NODE-0.9.9-mac-arm64.dmg |
| Mac with an Intel processor | NODE-0.9.9-mac-x64.dmg |
| Windows | NODE-0.9.9-win-x64.exe |
| Linux | NODE-0.9.9-linux-x86_64.AppImage |
Not sure which Mac you have? Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner and choose About This Mac. If the line "Chip" says Apple M1, M2, M3 or M4, download the Apple chip file. If it says "Processor" with Intel, download the Intel file.
You can ignore the other files, including Source code (zip) and Source code (tar.gz). They are for developers.
Installing on a Mac
If you have 0.9.6, 0.9.7 or 0.9.8, NODE updates itself: when the update is ready it offers to restart. Otherwise:
- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile. - Drag NODE into the Applications folder, replacing the old one if you have it.
- Open NODE from Applications.
NODE is signed and checked by Apple, so it opens like any other app. Copies of 0.9.5 or earlier can't update themselves; download this version by hand once.
Installing on Windows
- If your browser warns about the download, choose Keep.
- Open the
.exefile. If you see "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. - Follow the installer.
Windows copies of NODE check for updates and install them by themselves.
Installing on Linux
Download the .AppImage file, make it executable (right-click → Properties → Allow executing, or chmod +x), and open it.
Known limits
- The first time NODE saves a password on a Mac, macOS may ask whether NODE can use its "Safe Storage" key in your keychain. Click Always Allow. If you are coming from 0.9.5 or earlier, it asks once more: click Always Allow again, or NODE can't read your saved passwords and API keys.
- Signing in to Google accounts opens in a separate Chrome-based window.
- Screenshots and saved pages are not in a shared trail file yet. They will come with share links.
- On Windows, NODE is not listed under "Open with" for Markdown files. Use File → Open Shared Trail…, drag the file onto NODE, or choose Open with → Choose another app and pick NODE.
- On a Mac, passkeys (Touch ID / iCloud Keychain sign-in) are turned off; sites offer password sign-in instead.
Reporting a problem
In NODE's menu bar, choose Help → Report a Problem…. NODE copies its diagnostics and opens a short bug form on GitHub. Paste them where the form asks, with what you were doing when it went wrong.
NODE 0.9.8 (beta)
NODE 0.9.8 lets each trail keep its own tabs and finishes the sidebar. Thank you for testing.
NODE updates itself on Windows, and on a Mac from 0.9.6 on. Copies of 0.9.5 or earlier on a Mac need this version downloaded by hand once.
What's new
- Each trail keeps its own tabs. A tab belongs to the trail you were on when you opened it. Switch trails (in the sidebar, the CommandBar, or Menu → Trail) and the tabs switch with it, back to the tab you had open there. The other trails' tabs stay open out of view and go to sleep after a while, as usual. Your current tabs join the trail you're on now.
- Mosaic in the sidebar. With Mosaic on, the sidebar lists the tiles above your tabs. Click one to bring it forward.
- Resize the sidebar. Drag its right edge to make it wider or narrower. Double-click the edge to go back to the usual width.
- Tab counts for trails. The trail list and the CommandBar show how many tabs each trail has.

NODE 0.9.7 (beta)
NODE 0.9.7 fixes two things found in 0.9.6. Thank you for testing.
NODE updates itself on Windows, and on a Mac from 0.9.6 on. Copies of 0.9.5 or earlier on a Mac need this version downloaded by hand once.
What's fixed
- Captchas stay in their tab. Clicking a captcha (the "I'm not a robot" box or a picture puzzle) could switch you back to the tab you had open before. It now stays where you are.
- The shield counts every block. The number on the shield next to the address could miss an ad or tracker blocked in the first moment a page loads. It now counts them all.

NODE 0.9.6 (beta)
NODE 0.9.6 adds a sidebar layout and is the first version signed by Apple. Thank you for testing.
If you have NODE on Windows, it updates by itself. On a Mac, download this version once and replace the old one in Applications. From now on, Macs update by themselves too.
What's new
- Sidebar layout. Your tabs, tools and trails in one column on the left, so long tab titles stay readable. Turn it on in Settings → Tabs → Layout, or View → Use Sidebar Layout. The top bar stays the default.
- Three widths. Full, a compact rail with icons only, or hidden. Press ⌘S (Ctrl+S on Windows) to hide or show it, and right-click its empty space to switch between full and compact.
- Trails in view. The sidebar shows the trail you're on and lists your other trails. Click one to switch, or start a new trail.
- CommandBar. In the sidebar layout, ⌘L or a click on the address opens one box for everything: switch to an open tab or a trail, search, go to an address, ask about the page, or run the research agent. ⌘T opens it for a new tab. Keys: ↑↓ to move, ↵ to open, ⇧↵ for a new tab, Tab to ask, ⌘↵ for the agent, ⌥↵ for a new trail.
- Signed for Mac. NODE is signed and notarized by Apple. It opens without a security warning and updates itself.
- Fix: full-screen toolbar. In full screen, opening the Menu no longer keeps the toolbar on screen. It slides away when you move the pointer down.

Installing on a Mac
- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile. - Drag NODE into the Applications folder, replacing the old one if you have it.
- Open NODE from Applications.
NODE is now signed and checked by Apple, so it opens like any other app. There is no "cannot check" message and no Open Anyway step.
Updates on a Mac: from 0.9.6 on, NODE updates itself, as it does on Windows. Copies of 0.9.5 or earlier can't, because they weren't signed, so download 0.9.6 by hand this one time.
Installing on Windows
- If your browser warns about the download, choose Keep.

Known limits
- The first time NODE saves a password on a Mac, macOS may ask whether NODE can use its "Safe Storage" key in your keychain. Click Always Allow. After this update it asks once more, because the app is now signed: click Always Allow again, or NODE can't read your saved passwords and API keys.

NODE 0.9.5 (beta)
NODE 0.9.5 adds passwords and fixes tabs that switched or reloaded on their own. Thank you for testing.
If you already have NODE on Windows, it updates by itself. On a Mac, download the new version below and replace the old one in Applications.
What's new
- Save passwords. After you sign in, NODE asks whether to save the password: Save Password, Never for This Site or Not Now. If you sign in with a new password, it asks to update the saved one.
- Sign in faster. Next time, click the username or password field and pick your login from the small menu. Nothing is filled until you pick it. You can also right-click the field and choose Fill Saved Login.
- Strong passwords. On a sign-up or change-password form, click the password field and choose Use Strong Password. NODE fills the password and its confirmation, and asks to save it when you send the form.
- Bring your passwords with you. Export your passwords from Chrome, Brave, Edge, Safari, Firefox, 1Password or Bitwarden, then go to Settings → Passwords → Import Passwords… and choose the file. The steps for each browser are in Settings. NODE offers to move the exported file to the Trash afterwards, since it holds every password in plain text.
- See your passwords. Settings → Passwords lists your saved logins. Show and Copy ask for Touch ID first (or a confirmation on computers without it). A copied password is cleared from the clipboard after a minute.
- Private by design. Passwords are encrypted with your computer's own secure storage (Keychain on a Mac) and never leave your computer. A login is only filled on the site it was saved for.
- Tabs stay put. In Mosaic, a tile that moved to a new page by itself (YouTube's next video, a page that refreshes) could take over as the active tab. Now only your own click or key press switches tabs.
- No reloads after a break. Tabs you haven't used go to sleep to save memory. Time away from the computer used to count, so tabs reloaded when you came back. Now only time you spend using NODE counts, and the wait is 30 minutes. Change it, or turn sleep off, in Settings → Tabs → Put unused tabs to sleep.

NODE 0.9.4 (beta)
NODE 0.9.4 is about privacy and asking across your tabs. Thank you for testing. (There is no 0.9.3: that release was started by mistake and has no downloads.)
If you already have NODE on Windows, it updates by itself. On a Mac, download the new version below and replace the old one in Applications.
What's new
- See what NODE blocks. A shield next to the address shows how many ads and trackers were blocked on the page you're reading. Click it to see which sites were blocked, turn blocking off or on, and read what NODE sends.
- The same filter lists uBlock Origin uses. NODE already blocked ads and trackers with uBlock Origin's default lists. Now it also hides the empty boxes ads leave behind, and switches off ad and tracking code on the page, as uBlock Origin does.
- Hide cookie notices (optional). Turn on Also hide cookie notices in the shield menu or in Settings. It's off by default. Hiding a notice doesn't answer it.
- What NODE sends. A new section on the NODE page on GitHub lists everything that leaves your computer, where it goes and when. NODE sends no usage data.
- Ask AI about several pages. In the Ask tab, choose This page, Mosaic tabs or Session. Answers cite the pages they come from as [1], [2] and so on; click a number to open that page. Session → Summarize session writes a short summary with sources and saves it to your Library. Needs a model set up in Settings → AI.

NODE 0.9.2 (beta)
NODE 0.9.2 is about Mosaic: choose which tabs it shows, pinch to move between one tab and all of them, and loop part of a video. Thank you for testing.
If you already have NODE on Windows, it updates by itself. On a Mac, download the new version below and replace the old one in Applications.
When you first open 0.9.2, NODE offers a 2-minute tutorial for the new gestures and shortcuts. You can also start it from Menu → Help → Learn gestures and shortcuts.
What's new
- Choose which tabs Mosaic shows. Mosaic now shows up to 4 tabs. Right-click a tab and choose Show in Mosaic. To change the number, go to Settings → Tabs → Tiles in Mosaic (4, 6, 9 or every tab).
- See all your tabs at once. Press ⌘⇧\ (Ctrl+Shift+\ on Windows), or right-click the Mosaic button. Every tab shows as a picture. Click the ones you want in Mosaic, then Done.
- Pinch on the trackpad. On a page, pinch in to go to Mosaic, and pinch in again to see all your tabs. Pinch out on a tile to open it. Pinching out on a page still zooms it.
- Shortcuts. In Mosaic, ⌘1 to ⌘4 (Ctrl on Windows) open tile 1 to 4.
- Loop part of a video. Right-click a video, or use Capture → Loop Section: loop the next 30 seconds, minute or 5 minutes, or set your own start and end. ⌘⇧L loops the next minute and stops it again. The tab shows which part is looping; click it to stop.
Fixes
- Fewer junk keywords: logos, icons, keyboard-shortcut help, your own name from a site's menus, and ids from video addresses no longer show up.
- AI agents reading a page now get the links in "See also", "References" and "Categories" lists. These came through empty before.

NODE 0.9.1 (beta)
NODE 0.9.1 is the second beta. It brings a new look, smoother motion and a short survey. Thank you for testing.
If you already have NODE on Windows, it updates by itself. On a Mac, download the new version below and replace the old one in Applications.
What's new
- A quieter toolbar. Buttons are icons now. Hover one to see its name and shortcut. Screenshot, Save page, Save media and Picture in picture are in one Capture button.
- Suggestions in a panel you can fold away. Suggest, Ask, Agent and Talk are tabs at the top of the panel. Fold it into the toolbar and the button shows how many results are waiting.
- One menu. Library, Bookmarks, History, Downloads, Trail, Settings and Help open in one menu (the ☰ button, or ⌘, / Ctrl+,).
- Full screen. The toolbar hides. Move the pointer to the top edge and it slides in over the page.
- Motion. Small transitions when you pin a keyword, save a bookmark, open the panel or the menu. NODE follows your system's reduce-motion setting.
- A short survey. After you've used NODE on 3 different days, it asks once if you'd answer 15 questions. You can also open it any time from Menu → Help → Take the survey, or Help → Take the Beta Survey… in the menu bar.
- Usage summary. Menu → Help → Copy usage summary copies a few counts (days used, suggestions shown and opened, keywords pinned, and so on) so you can paste them into the survey. NODE never sends them. No pages, addresses or keywords are in it.
Fixes
- Sign-in, account, payment and banking pages no longer appear in your research trail, in exports, or in what AI agents can read. Ones already saved are removed when the session opens.
- Grok no longer times out when testing the key or asking a question.
- Google Forms (like the beta survey) open in NODE instead of the separate Google window. They work without signing in.

- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile. - Drag NODE into the Applications folder.
- Open NODE from Applications. macOS shows a message that it cannot check NODE. Click Done.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security. Scroll down to the message about NODE and click Open Anyway. Confirm with your password or Touch ID.
This happens because the beta is not signed with Apple yet. You only need to do it once.
Updates on a Mac: until NODE is signed, it cannot update itself. When a new version comes out, download it from this page and drag it into Applications again, replacing the old one.
Known limits in this beta
- Signing in to Google accounts opens in a separate Chrome-based window.
- On a Mac, passkeys (Touch ID / iCloud Keychain sign-in) are turned off; sites offer password sign-in instead.
Reporting a problem
In NODE, open Help → Copy diagnostics and paste the result into a new issue at https://github.com/westernCasa/node_browser/issues, with a short description of what happened.
