BREAKING CHANGES

  • kitsu, kitsu-core: adopt JSON:API 1.1 resource handling. Relationships now expose resources, arrays, or null directly, without relationship data wrappers. Resource and relationship metadata move under $; document metadata stays beside data. Nested JSON attributes containing data no longer unwrap when hoistData is enabled. (5bcfa6e)
  • node: drop Node.js 18 and 20 support. Supported versions are Node.js 22, 24, and 26 or newer; Node.js 19, 21, 23, and 25 are also unsupported. TypeScript output targets ES2023. (2559f75)

Migration guides: kitsu, kitsu-core, Axios to native Fetch.

Features

  • kitsu-native: introduce kitsu-native, a new JSON:API client library using native Fetch instead of Axios, for browsers, Node.js, and Bun. Provides the same resource methods and aliases as kitsu, with no Axios dependency. Approximately 2-4x faster than Axios-based kitsu in selected single-resource read and combined benchmarks. Measurements cover client processing with mocked transport; results vary by scenario and runtime. See benchmarks and methodology. kitsu continues to use Axios. (4998401)
  • kitsu, kitsu-core: ensure full JSON:API 1.1 compliance, including local IDs (lid), shared and cyclic relationships, and preservation of document, resource, and relationship members. (#1156, 5bcfa6e, 165195b)
  • kitsu, kitsu-native: switch to native private class elements. (3324ed5)
  • kitsu-core: improve encoder performance. (9728d54, e3fe153)
  • kitsu, kitsu-core, kitsu-native: support hoistData with additional resource properties while preserving document metadata. Add opt-in attributeCase conversion for kebab-case and snake_case API attributes. (e25ffd0), closes #1131 and #1024
