@xc4pr xc4pr released this 27 Oct 18:24

No more flickering stripes in 3D.

Some parts showed diagonal stripes in 3D that moved as you turned the view. That happens when two surfaces of different colours lie exactly on top of each other. Fixed:

  • Fireplace: the fire chamber is now a real recess with a dark back wall, and the mantel stands out from the front.
  • Stove, tiled stove and floor air conditioner: glass, door, handle, bench seat and grilles sit on the body instead of inside its front.
  • Shower: the glass pane sits between its profiles.
  • Kitchen cabinets from the catalogue: the fronts sit in front of the carcass, and the handles on the fronts.
  • Winter garden: the glass roof rests on the frame, and the frame and glass no longer flicker at the house wall.
  • Roof window: two panes beside the centre bar.
  • Balcony and terrace: railing and cover end cleanly at the house wall, and a column up to the cover meets it cleanly.
  • Floors and stairs: no flickering edge between the floors, and the spiral stair ends just below the upper floor.
  • Doors and windows: the inner window sill and the door swing on the floor no longer flicker.
  • A room whose sloped ceiling starts at floor level (knee height 0) no longer breaks the 3D view.
  • The weekly catalogue update is included.
  • Projects open unchanged.

Floors and stairs.

  • Several floors: a new project asks for one floor or several; an existing one can switch it on under Project settings (next to the project name). Each floor has a name, an order, a slab thickness and a clear height, and every room belongs to one floor.
  • Plan: a switcher shows one floor at a time, with the floor below as a faint guide. New rooms land on the selected floor; selecting a room on another floor brings that floor into view.
  • Stairs: straight, L, U or spiral, from one floor to the next, with width, direction and turning. The number of steps follows from the floor height (risers of about 17 to 18 cm, stride about 63 cm). On the upper floor the stairwell opens the slab and gets a railing, also in L-shaped rooms and under sloped ceilings.
  • Checks: no furniture on the stair or in the stairwell, and at least 2 m of headroom above every step, also under sloped ceilings. The check before an export covers the stairs of the chosen rooms' floors.
  • 3D: the floors are stacked and can be shown or hidden one by one. Walk through each floor and change floor with Up one floor and Down one floor; walk mode never starts above the stairwell.
  • AI package, PDF and plan import work per floor and know the stairs and the areas around them where nothing may stand.
  • Also new: the photo tour asks for roof windows, floor air conditioners and free-standing obstacles; the AI package marks garden furniture, keeps the thickness of shared walls and tells the assistant not to put wall sockets or switches on balconies, terraces and gardens.
  • Projects from earlier versions open unchanged and stay on one floor.
  • Manual updated in English and German, with new pictures of bathroom and kitchen, sloped ceilings, outdoor areas, and floors and stairs.

Balconies, terraces, gardens and conservatories.

  • Outdoor areas: balcony, terrace and garden are new room types without walls or ceiling, drawn with a dashed outline. They connect like rooms; the door sits in the wall of the inside room.
  • Railing: a balcony gets a railing along its free edges, 1.0 m high by default.
  • Cover: optionally over the whole area or as a strip along a wall, with its own height, e.g. a balcony above or a pergola. Under the cover its height applies to furniture.
  • Conservatory: glass walls and roof; sloped ceilings work as usual, e.g. for a lean-to roof.
  • Living area and outdoor area are shown separately in the panel, the PDF and the AI package.
  • Changing the room type to an outdoor area moves doors and windows of the shared wall into the inside room; everything else stays and is marked.
  • Furnish: garden furniture from the catalogue appears first in outdoor areas; columns and obstacles work outdoors too.
  • Photo tour: wall and corner photos are skipped for outdoor areas.
  • Everywhere: plan, 3D, wall view, PDF, checks, AI package and plan import.
  • Sync fixes: a reload during a sync no longer leaves a duplicate conflict copy, and the app no longer reloads itself right after its first install, which could lose what you had just typed (seen in Safari).
  • Projects from earlier versions open unchanged.
  • Manual updated in English and German.

Sloped ceilings, sections, dormers and roof windows.

  • Depth instead of angle: a slope is set by the knee wall height and either its angle or its depth (the distance from the wall to the full room height). RoomX shows both and marks where 2 m of headroom begins.
  • Sections: a slope can cover only part of a wall, from and to a distance along it; a wall can have several sections. Vertical cheeks close the ends, in the plan and in 3D.
  • Dormers: a section can have a dormer with its own height and, optionally, a window in its front.
  • Roof windows: a new element in the Openings group, only in rooms with a slope: position, lower edge above the floor, width and length along the slope. In 3D it lets light in; for the AI assistant it counts as a window.
  • Tall doors and windows cut the slope cleanly, like a small dormer.
  • Checks: the height check now uses the lowest point of the ceiling, also between the corners of partial slopes and dormers.
  • Everywhere: plan, 3D, wall view, PDF, checks, AI package and plan import.
  • Projects from earlier versions open unchanged; existing slopes keep their shape.
  • Developer docs list every CI check and ROOMX_ALLOWED_ORIGINS.
  • Manual updated in English and German.

Bathroom, kitchen, heating and free obstacles.

  • Bathroom: toilet, washbasin, shower (with an optional glass partition) and bathtub against a wall; shower and bathtub also go into a corner.
  • Kitchen run: along one wall, on the SMS 55 or EURO 60 grid, with length, depth, worktop height, tall units, optional wall cabinets and modules side by side (base cabinet, sink, hob, dishwasher, tall unit, built-in table).
  • Kitchen from the catalogue: a kitchen can also be planned freely with kitchen furniture. Living and dining rooms get the switch Open kitchen, and the Kitchen category then appears first in Furnish. The catalogue now lists about 600 IKEA kitchen cabinets (base, wall, tall and sink units) as kitchen furniture.
  • Heating and climate: wall-mounted and floor-standing air conditioners with a free zone in front of the outlet; fireplace, wood stove and tiled stove, freely or against a wall, with a keep-clear zone in front of the firebox.
  • Columns and free obstacles: round or square columns and boxes that stand freely in the room, optionally up to the ceiling.
  • Clear zones: furniture in a built-in or in front of a firebox turns red, furniture in front of an air conditioner yellow.
  • Room types: the palette shows only what fits the room. Changing the room type keeps every element and marks what no longer fits.
  • Everywhere: plan, 3D, wall view, PDF (symbols and legend), checks, AI package and plan import. Fixed built-ins are blocked for the AI assistant, like doors and windows.
  • Catalogue update: an article whose number moves to another colour no longer stops the weekly update.
  • Projects from earlier versions open unchanged.
  • Manual updated in English and German.

@xc4pr xc4pr released this 27 Oct 00:00

The weekly update of the large catalogue runs again.

  • Weekly catalogue update: when a shop renames a product page, the old and the new address carry the same article number. The update counted both and stopped, so the runs of 19 and 26 October published nothing. Now one entry per article number counts (the live page, then the one checked last), and the article keeps its ID, so placed furniture stays linked.
  • The app itself is unchanged.

Safer photos from your phone, projects that always open again, and English names for the whole large catalogue.

  • Take photos with your phone:
    • A photo that arrives from the phone is no longer an undo step. Undo and redo keep it, so it cannot get lost after the phone has deleted its copy.
    • A photo shared as a file and also sent over the direct connection or the mailbox is placed only once.
    • With your own server, the phone deletes its own copy of a photo only after the computer has placed it and left a receipt signed with the job key, so the server alone cannot make photos disappear from the phone. A phone that was offline when you ended the job learns about it from the server and stops. If removing the mailbox fails when you end a job, the computer tries again at the next start.
    • Corner and wall photos no longer get a step once the room has a different number of corners than when the job was made.
    • Storage problems on the computer and on the phone are reported instead of staying silent. The phone texts now say "computer" and describe an ended job correctly.
  • Projects stay open: a project can no longer lock itself by going past a limit (for example more than 100 variants); a project that already did opens again completely. The browser also warns before closing the tab while RoomX is still saving.
  • Sync with your own server: a change you make while the app is storing a state from the server is kept, as a conflict copy if needed, instead of being overwritten.
  • Offline copy: when RoomX updates, it removes only its own old offline copies, not those of other apps on the same site.
  • Tchibo prices: articles on sale with a regular price of CHF 1000 or more showed the sale price as the regular price. The large catalogue now shows the regular price for them, like for all other articles.
  • English names for the whole large catalogue: IKEA series with Å, Ø or Æ (for example BESTÅ, SMÅSTAD, UPPÅKRA) are recognised. Every IKEA, JYSK and Tchibo article now has an English name, including sofa modules such as "4.5-seat sofa module".
  • Own server: pages cannot be embedded in other websites, and Docker publishes the port only on 127.0.0.1 by default, for an HTTPS proxy on the same machine. ROOMX_BIND in deploy/.env changes it.
  • Handbook: describes the weekly update of the large catalogue and names the project limits.

Photos from your phone, the complete IKEA range and English names in the large catalogue.

  • Take photos with your phone: plan on the PC, photograph with the phone. A QR code sends the photo pages of the chosen rooms to the phone; the live camera shows where to stand and where to point, and the photos come back to the PC by themselves while both devices are open. Without a connection, send the pictures as files instead. See Take photos with your phone.
  • Large catalogue complete: all IKEA articles in the furniture range, with regular prices (no member prices), plus JYSK and Tchibo — about 6800 retailer articles in total.
  • English names for the articles of JYSK and Tchibo in the large catalogue.
  • Weekly update: prices and range of the large catalogue are refreshed once a week. Articles a retailer drops stay in the catalogue, marked “No longer available”.
  • Catalogue models: splayed legs (for example LISABO, LINDVED) and round tub chairs (ANDRUP); white metal frames now look white instead of grey; sliding doors without handles (PAX, RABERG) no longer show grip bars; frame colours of IDÅSEN and KONGSBERG and further details from an independent check; catalogue pictures load as soon as a card is in view.
  • Tapping the tab of the page you are on no longer takes the focus away from a text field.

A much bigger catalogue, and catalogue models that look like the real thing.

  • Big catalogue: besides the curated entries, more than 4,300 articles from IKEA, JYSK and Tchibo (Switzerland). The list loads them on demand and keeps them offline after the first load. Search covers name, series and article number; a new width filter helps to find what fits.
  • Models that look like the original: chests of drawers, bedside tables, shelves, wardrobes, sideboards and TV benches show their base, feet or legs, handles, the layout of drawers and doors, framed fronts, the top and books on open shelves. Tables and desks show their frame (four legs, trestle, pedestal, sled, panels, T-frame) and drawers, sofas and armchairs their arms, back and cushions, beds their headboard and storage drawers, mirrors their shape and frame, lamps their shade and stand. The catalogue picture is the same 3D model you place in the room.
  • Checked data: measurements and prices checked against the retailers' Swiss websites, with a “View at retailer” link on each card. Prices are indicative and dated.
  • No longer sold: articles the retailer has dropped stay in the catalogue with a label, so older plans and projects still load.
  • AI package: includes the curated catalogue plus the retailer articles your brief asks for; if that gets too large, a marked excerpt.
  • Manual and screenshots updated in English and German.

Small update with fixes and polish.

  • About RoomX in the settings: version, build date, privacy and licence pages, and feedback via GitHub or email.
  • Narrow screens: room types wrap, the catalogue shows the most common categories with “+ n more”, tabs fit.
  • Icons: favicon and app icons stay visible on light and dark backgrounds.
  • Clearer English labels: “Freeform” for the room shape, “Free view” in 3D.
  • Full RoomX logo on the empty project list and in the welcome tour.
  • Manual in English and German, each with its own screenshots.
  • The self-hosted build shows its release version instead of “dev”.
