Matinee v0.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Oct 02:27
936b1c0

A big update to the server and web player: music gets a proper library and player, Matinee now speaks 32 languages, plugins arrive with the Arcade, and it's easier and safer to watch away from home. The phone and TV apps are out in the stores and work with everything here.

Security

  • Password guessing is slowed down. After a few wrong passwords for a name, or many from one address, Matinee makes each next try wait longer, up to 15 minutes. Sign-ins from your home network are never held up, so nobody outside can lock your household out.
  • Servers prove who they are. The apps now check that an address found away from home really belongs to your server before sending your sign-in to it. Update the server and the apps together.

New

  • Music, revamped: tabs for albums, artists and songs, album and artist pages, and a player that keeps going while you browse, with a queue.
  • 32 languages across the web player and the apps, with titles and descriptions in each profile's language.
  • Plugins: add new kinds of media and players. The first one, the Arcade, plays your MAME games in the browser. Developers get a guide, the matinee-plugin tool and test helpers.
  • Home Assistant: see what's playing, and pause, play or stop from Home Assistant, through the new integration and live events.
  • Casting: Chromecasts play straight from the server.
  • Sleep timer in the player.
  • Discover (optional): browse and request new titles through Overseerr.
  • Holiday rows on Home in the weeks before Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve. Admins can turn them off.
  • See more on rows that have more titles than they show.
  • Coming soon in the phone and TV apps, with a calendar.

Better

  • Watching away from home: apps find your server again after its address changes, and tell you when away-from-home watching is ready. Matinee Connect, a prepaid subscription, looks up your server's address; your video always goes straight from your server to you.
  • Remote access is offered when your public address only leads home, including through the Helm chart's ingress.
  • TMDB key in Settings: admins can set or change the key without touching config.
  • Only home network addresses are announced on the local network.
  • Several apps can stay signed in and playing at once without getting stuck.
  • Every server has a lasting id, and admins can see each library's title and file counts.

Install and docs

  • NAS app stores: entries for Unraid, Umbrel, ZimaOS and TrueNAS, and a NAS install guide.
  • A website and user guide at matinee.yeix.io, versioned with each release, with screenshots from a real library.
  • The Helm chart is listed with its license, links and icon on Artifact Hub.
  • Privacy policy and support pages for the apps.

Updating

Packages, the Docker image and the Helm chart update as usual; database changes apply on start. See Updating in the guide.

If Matinee helps you, you can support it.

Install

  • Docker: docker pull ghcr.io/yeixio/matinee:0.1.1
  • Kubernetes: helm install matinee oci://ghcr.io/yeixio/charts/matinee --version 0.1.1
  • Homebrew (macOS, Linux): brew tap yeixio/matinee https://github.com/yeixio/matinee && brew install yeixio/matinee/matinee
  • Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, RHEL: add the apt or dnf repository as the README shows, or install the .deb or .rpm below. Either runs Matinee as a service on port 7171.
  • Single binary: download the archive for your system below. FFmpeg must be on the PATH.

Matinee v0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 20:19
550bba5

The first public release of Matinee: a fast, self-hosted media server for your movies, TV and music. Point it at your folders and it does the rest: tidy libraries, artwork and details, and smooth playback on any screen. No ads, and no account on someone else's server.

Matinee is early. The server and web player are ready for everyday use at home; the phone and TV apps are in testing and will follow.

Highlights

  • Libraries for movies, TV and music, named from your file and folder names, with posters, descriptions, cast and crew, awards, trailers and related titles from TMDB (bring your own free key) or your own artwork files.
  • Plays anywhere. Files the browser can play stream as they are; everything else is converted on the fly to HLS with FFmpeg, on the GPU when there is one (AMD and Intel through VA-API, NVIDIA NVENC, Intel Quick Sync, or VideoToolbox on a Mac).
  • Subtitles from the file or from files next to it, with picture subtitles burned in when needed.
  • New files show up in seconds: Matinee watches local disks and checks network shares cheaply every 30 seconds.
  • Knows what's in every file: resolution, HDR and Dolby Vision, codecs, audio channels, Atmos and languages, shown as badges and usable as filters.
  • Find anything: search as you type, and filter and sort libraries by any detail.
  • Collections: smart collections built from rules, hand-picked ones, box sets from TMDB, and pinned rows on Home.
  • People, profiles and kids mode: accounts for everyone, profiles with optional PINs, and kids profiles that only see titles rated for them.
  • Picks up where you left off, with a watch list, Continue watching and Recently added for each person.
  • Seven themes and support for your own.
  • Easy to reach: devices on your home network can watch without signing in, apps find the server by themselves, and remote access works without touching your router.
  • Radarr and Sonarr (optional): requests, coming soon, problem reports and quality changes.
  • Offline downloads prepared on the server for the upcoming apps.

Getting started

Install Matinee with one of the options below, open http://<your server>:7171, create the admin account, and add your media folders under Settings. The README walks through each install method, the TMDB key, hardware transcoding and remote access.

Signed apt and dnf repositories use the key with fingerprint 4EE3 3F8C EE07 6BB0 C9A7 C559 21F5 BE9F 726A 2895.
