v1.0.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 19:11

Rewamp 1.0 — out of beta.

New
• New "Podiums" browser: demoscene competition winners by party, year or kind of compo, with a hall of fame.
• Opening a slow track no longer freezes the app: a thin ring around play/pause shows that it is still loading.
• Arcade: Ensoniq ES5505/ES5506 music (Taito F3…) now plays, and the engines are up to date (FM-Kingtracker .fmk added).
• Info panel: format, engine, channels and loop points come first, and field names stand out.
• Album and subsong screens show the collection; a dropped archive lists all its tracks, reads "local", and no longer shows up twice once replaced.
• Piano visualizer: songs with many voices or instruments at once are spread over more keyboards.
• Amiga: StoneTracker, SUNtronic (TSM rips) and more Soundtracker 2.6 modules now play, and SoundPlayer songs play on iOS.
• ZX Spectrum: zxart's .mt3 files play.
• macOS and iOS: every supported format now shows up in "Open With".

Fixes
• Some .mtc files mixing PT3 with TFM or PSG crashed the app.
• Apple IIGS VGM files crashed the app.
• With crossfade on, a track shorter than the fade could not be heard.
• Artwork replaced on the server now shows everywhere after "Re-download file".

v0.8.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 11 Oct 16:45

New
• Playback speed from 0.2× to 3×, in the Voices panel. Most engines change the tempo and keep the pitch; the others resample.
• New players: NoiseTracker GS (Apple IIGS), Ron Klaren (Amiga) and SAM Coupé .cop programs.
• Amiga and Atari ST: SidMon 1, Sonic Arranger, Paul Robotham, Quartet, SoundFactory and some Maximum Effect modules now play.
• MSX MoonBlaster: songs load their sample kit instead of playing noise, and edit-mode files play correctly.
• Library: "Hide items not on this device" hides the local entries whose file is on another device.
• Long-press the artwork in the player to see it full screen.
• Visualizers: per-voice oscilloscope by default (line spectrum for streamed formats), grid and voice names switchable from the oscilloscope, and a steadier stereo oscilloscope.
• Windows: the media keys and the system media controls drive playback, and the fullscreen visualizer fills the screen.

Fixes
• Tapping a track of some PSF albums could play another one.
• A folder holding several playlists now forms one album with all their tracks, without duplicates.
• Amiga songs with no known length or author ask the server again after a week, instead of never.

v0.7.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Oct 18:05

New
• Rewamp now runs on Windows too, with every engine and the visualizers, projectM included.
• Linux: visualizers now work under X11 (Steam Deck game mode), "Always on top" is back there, and closing the window no longer crashes the app.
• Game Boy .gbr and DefleMask .dmf files now play.
• A smoother player: the screen no longer redraws everything four times per second just to move the seek bar — visualizers stay fluid.
• A title too long for its space now scrolls in a loop, in one direction, instead of going back and forth.
• On computers, the horizontal rows scroll by click-and-drag with the mouse.
• projectM: preset packs install up to nine times faster, and large preset folders are no longer cut short.

Fixes
• Pausing could skip to the next track.
• PSF albums (PlayStation, Nintendo DS…) delivered as a single archive now unfold into their tracks, also when added to the queue.
• Artist pages: the track list shows tracks again, not whole album archives.
• Nintendo 64: each voice is shown and muted correctly in the visualizers.
• Piano visualizer: the automatic framing restarts with each song, and a repeated note is shown again.
• The artwork background behind the visualizer no longer vanishes after leaving the player.
• projectM: presets follow the real frame rate (some reacted sluggishly), and two presets that never showed up now appear.

Performance
• Covers load much faster: a grid of albums fills in at once instead of one cover every second and a half.

v0.6.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Sep 22:01

1st release for Linux.

New engines and formats
• A Roland MT-32 engine for the MIDI music of old PC games, with your own ROMs (Settings → Default decoders → MIDI synthesizer). Rewamp never ships them. Without ROMs, a MIDI written for the MT-32 is adapted to General MIDI instead of playing on the wrong instruments, and the app tells you so.
• Ten rare module formats now play: Archimedes Tracker (.musx), .liq, .fnk, .mgt, .stim, .emod and more.
• Westwood AdLib music (.adl — Dune II, Eye of the Beholder…) plays every one of its tracks, instead of only the silent first one.
• BP SoundMon V1 modules are recognised on Amiga.

On Mac & Linux
• A mini player: the window shrinks to the essentials — cover, title, seek bar, transport — or to a small visualizer. It remembers its size, and one click brings the full window back as you left it.
• "Always on top", for the main window and the mini player alike, also in the Window menu. (Mac only)

Visualizers
• Oscilloscope, notes and piano can name and colour each instrument, not just each voice.
• Visualizers stand still while playback is stopped, and are capped at 60 frames per second (Settings → Visualization → Frame rate): a phone that refreshes at 120 Hz no longer spends twice the battery on a waveform.
• projectM: presets no longer come back in the same order at every launch, and a preset is no longer set aside as "too heavy" after a pause or with the window minimised.

Browsing and playback
• Search and artist pages: filter the tunes that placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a demoscene competition.
• Game files often hold more sound effects than music: subsongs shorter than a threshold (5 s by default, Settings → Playback) are left out of "Play all". They stay listed, greyed, and play when tapped.
• Your imports: drop a whole folder — the archives inside are unpacked — and create, rename or move folders.

Fixes
• PC Engine (.hes), Master System (.sgc) and Atari ST (.sndh): some tracks started the song next to the right one.
• MIDI: the drums no longer play as a piano, the volume no longer clips, and seeking no longer leaves old notes ringing.
• The Piano visualizer stayed empty on PC Engine music.
• A multi-song file no longer shows up twice in "Recently played".

Performance and reliability
• The app no longer works away in the background when nothing is playing: far less processor and battery, on every platform.
• A database left broken by an update now repairs itself, instead of making the library unreachable.
