Getting Started

What you need

  • Linux. Developed and tested on Debian/Ubuntu. It should build on any distro with GTK 4.14 or newer
  • A Wi-Fi adapter that can inject — for anything offensive. See Hardware. Without one you can still browse the interface and read captures
  • Root for anything touching a radio. The GUI prompts for it per action; the CLI needs sudo

You don't need any of that to build it or look around.

Build

git clone https://github.com/yslxotwod/wifisting.git
cd wifisting

cd native
meson setup builddir
meson compile -C builddir

If meson is missing:

sudo apt install meson ninja-build libgtk-4-dev

Run

./wifisting.sh

That launches the GUI. For the terminal interface:

sudo bash wifisting.sh

The first launch checks dependencies and offers to install what's missing. It also installs the icon set into ~/.local/share/icons, so the module tiles render properly rather than showing placeholders.

Orient yourself

The Dashboard is the module list, grouped by category. Click a tile to open that module.

At the top you'll see the current interface, mode, MAC and channel. If it says IFACE None, you have no wireless adapter the app can see — open Interface Manager to pick one.

Statistics tabs show graphs. Events logs everything the modules report, including failures — that's the first place to look when something doesn't behave.

Try it without hardware

Every module has a selftest that passes with no radio attached:

modules/03_attack.sh --selftest
modules/58_proximity.sh --selftest

If one of those fails on your machine, that's a bug worth reporting — the selftests are meant to work on a bare install.
