TriageVerdict: a reproducible bug in the walkthroughs' kind overlays, not in humus's packages. On startup, Grafana updates its bundled Tempo plugin from grafana.com, and the update fails on the overlay's read-only root filesystem after the old plugin is already unloaded. Every overlay's Grafana is affected, not only the three whose tests check it, and Loki and Mimir will break the same way on their plugins' next release. #1275 is filed to fix it. Is this a misuse of humus? No. The overlays and their Grafana are the repository's own code. No end user is involved: Is it a feature request? No. #629, revision 14 promises each kind overlay has "Grafana, with all three as data sources". #1177, #948 and #949 promise the same for the wallet, the shoppingcart and billing, and their kind-only checks test it. Restoring that changes no API. Revision 13 also asks for "a non-root container with a read-only root filesystem". Every overlay gives Grafana that security context, and the bug comes from it. Is it reproducible?Yes. I ran the wallet's kind overlay at 08b44fa, with
A fresh Grafana pod loses its Tempo plugin. Each run restarted Grafana, so it started on an empty data directory. Grafana's own log, in order, from run 1:
The installer reached step 4 within 2 seconds of the rollout in every run. The same log also shows the update failing, the same way, for The baseline failed with the message in the report, I also ran a plain Grafana 13.2.4 container with the wallet's data sources file. On a writable root filesystem, the update went through: This corrects two points of the report:
WhyGrafana updates the plugins it bundles on every start. Grafana 13.2.4 preinstalls a default list of plugins, which includes An update removes the old plugin before it has the new one. What changed outside the repository. grafana.com lists Tempo's plugin 13.3.0, last updated at 2026-10-22T00:17:51Z. That is after Wider impact. All six kind overlays run Grafana 13.2.4 with #1275 is filed to fix it:

What happens
Since 2026-10-22 02:09 UTC, three walkthrough jobs fail on every run, on every branch:
Each one fails in its functional tests, at the check that Grafana serves its Mimir, Loki and Tempo data sources. Build, which the default branch's ruleset requires, passes only when every job before it passes. So no pull request can merge, and neither can anything in the merge queue. Re-running the failed jobs doesn't help.
Every attempt so far has failed all three jobs. That is 21 of 21 job runs:
From the latest attempt of #1273. Billing (job):
Wallet (job):
Shoppingcart (job):
What's known
This hasn't been triaged. What follows comes from the runs:
example/*/deployorexample/*/functional.main's push run of 08b44fa, 39697194966, passed all three jobs at 00:02 UTC. The kind overlays last changed in story(example): send the wallet's and the ledger's telemetry to the LGTM stack in kind #1248 (6351c86).docker.io/grafana/grafana:13.2.4, and the failed runs pulledsha256:dbbc38ea21103cefb50396340cd88afec779c7e070b0a7bf5a75b4ce46651d3f, which Docker Hub last pushed on 2026-10-13.plugin.notRegisteredfortempo. Itslokiandmimirsubtests then fail at once, on the spent deadline, so they don't show whether those two are registered. The wallet's and the shoppingcart's checks run out their 4-minute telemetry deadline on the same data sources.kubectl get alland the pods' descriptions, not Grafana's logs. Not yet known: why Grafana doesn't register the plugin, whether it does so on a local kind cluster, and whether anything outside the repository changed between 00:02 and 02:09 UTC.
Expected
The three jobs pass on a commit that passed before, as
main's run of 08b44fa did. Grafana serves the Mimir, Loki and Tempo data sources that each kind overlay provisions.References
