I've never had this issue before, and mocp has run smoothly on my 15.10 Ubuntu machine for months. However, now MOCP will load its interface, then to instantly crash. See attached: . I've tried purging, then reinstalling, but to no avail.

I faced with the same problem. I had a playlist in my ~/.moc/playlist.m3u. I just removed it and mocp started work.

There was something I did to also fix this, a very long time ago, which I unfortunately cannot remember...
The temporary work-around was to do "mocp ~/Music"!

Same problem here, doing as @phunanon suggested worked for me.

I am running version 2.6-alpha3 on Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS, Kernel 4.15.0-123.generic
