I am also in for horizontal tabs. Vertical tabs are a cool experiment for me but my brain can't wrap around them as I'm super used to horizontal ones. Just one request I'd have would be to keep the option to use Icon only tabs (so similar to the vertical tabs) without pinning tabs. I think that would help with saving space in an horizontal tab bar too. |

From the perspective of usage habits, I really need the function of horizontal labels. The function of side and horizontal labels can be developed, and then users can choose by themselves. I hope this function can be developed |

I thin the best would be is the instead of the URL box taking up a massive amount of space, it can be more streamlined and rest of the space used to display some of the current tabs centred on the active tab with the ability to scroll to both sides if needed. |

Tried side tabs, no thanks, back to LibreWolf |

Horizontal tabs are horrible if you have a small width with your browser, 50% of the width is just tabs... Why wouldn't something like this be optional?! |

Booo, hiss /s I'm a fan of vertical tabs, but having the option is good. |

Stumbled over Zen today and want to see horizontal Tabs as well. Thats currently the biggest issue that i have with it. Besides that, its the first Firefox Browser that actually feels good to use and that i consider switching to. Good job. |

It was installed and then uninstalled in less than 5 minutes. Only because "No horizontal tabs" Vertical tabs are confusing and bad UX for me. If in the future, horizontal tabs are introduced, I'll be more than happy to try it again. |

I just switched from brave because MV3 broke Surfingkeys. Zen is an excellent browser, but the vertical tab bar is next to useless. I use Surfingkeys to switch tabs (which brings up its own list of tab titles), so it's not as much of a problem as it is for others, but I'd definitely prefer horizontal tabs. |

Please. I'm struggling to use Zen when every other browser has the tabs horizontal |

Hi team, tested Zen and like it a lot -- I'm trying to cope with the vertical tabs but indeed, I reckon, having the possibility to align the tabs horizontally, I'd sure enable the feature -- thanks !!! |

Horizontal tabs is also a must here. Most screens are landscape and thus you have more room horizontally. Right now there is tons of wasted space in zen with over padded URL / nav area. It's insane that the old firefox I could streamline to a wicked tight setup for my netbook and these days you fight to get anything that isn't some jumbo Duplo block childs toy touch looking UI. UI these days sucks. Back to Waterfox and Palemoon. As a cheeky side note why not be radical with your unneeded paradigm shift UI and make tabs DIAGONAL! :p On a serious note UI where you have to bounce your mouse all over the place is stupid. Tabs with the URL bar makes everything nice, tight and centralized. A UI that makes you mouse top to bottom on one side then left to right elsewhere is just the weird kid trying to convince you he's/she's not weird. |

Keep the sides clean! Put everything at the top. It works better for websites like youtube/twitch/kick. Browsing a website is less of an issue than browsing a website with video players. The height is always enough, but the width - really - determines the size of the video player. Also many of these websites have sidebars themselves, so it also looks kinda weird having the browsers sidebar next to it, but thats my opinion. So a +1 for me for horizontal tabs. Even better - make it switchable between horizontal and vertical. |

Supporting the view that for this Zen Firefox fork horizontal tabs is a prerequisite, a MUST have, for consideration as the main browser / a replacement for Firefox. Preferably with optional vertical tabs or the ability to use both. Otherwise, looking promising so far.. |

I'm in the same boat as all the other people here. Tried out Zen, was looking where to enable horizontal tabs and ended up in this GH issue. Was using Duckduckgo Browser for a while as main browser but that one sucks so badly so I'm looking for another daily driver which is not Firefox (which I am using daily, but for dedicated/special purposes). Unfortunately vertical tabs are a complete non-starter for me. |

Zen isn't going for the maximum amount of users, neither for becoming a profitable project nor anything like that. The main goal of zen is to provide a simple and organized environment for everyone to use. In order to accomplish this, we need to maximise the amount of space we use, this can't be done with horizontal tabs. With horizontal tabs, as soon as you start having more than 10 tabs, you start seeing things like tab titles start shortening/disappear. With vertical tabs, this problem disappears. It's the main reason zen exists. People saying "uhh I'm going to switch to floorp now", "this browser is buggy because it doesn't have vertical tabs", "I'm switching back" think they are somehow helping to push this idea. I was first compassionate about these people that want horizontal tabs and I was trying to look for solutions, but it's now starting to be an annoyance for me and the community. Firefox had horizontal tabs, so did zen inherit them. They are removed for many reasons. You don't like this idea? Great, use another browser, zen isn't for you. Zen isn't made to be a replacement for chrome or firefox, not everything is for gaining the maximum amounts of profits or users.
No, you think you are that 99% of users but in reality, most zen users are because companies that do have vertical tabs like arc don't have the balls enough to port it to places such as windows and linux. This does not mean that horizontal tabs are not going to be implemented, just stop being so annoying about it. Reddit, discord, emails, everywhere I interact, there's always people DMing for horizontal tabs or saying that zen is buggy because it doesnt have horizontal tabs, etc. Forcing someone that works basically for free to do something is NOT the way to push a feature. This thread is a great example of how NOT to ask for horizontal tabs:
And there's also the time consuming factor. Think about everything you see on the sidebar. That sidebar already has to have a layout for collapsed sidebar, expanded sidebar, compact mode, etc. Now imagine how time consuming it would be to now add ANOTHER layout for horizontal tabs. It would delay sooo much the browser's development. Zen's sidebar isnt just tabs, that's why other browsers have 2, because their tab strips are just tabs. In zen, you can add buttons, separators and all different things. Yes, I know every other browser has horizontal tabs, that's the whole point, to be different from virtually every other browser. |

This case can be compared with the "Gutenberg Editor" of WordPress. The majority didn't like it and stuck to the classic editor, but the developers still refused to listen. The point is, if you're creating software that'll be used by the masses, you should listen to them. It's not a rule or mandatory (technically), but if you care, you must. |

Hey @mauro-balades ! It's me. Comment #889 Buddy, I'm obviously joking around with you. I love you and I have much respect for you and your browser, hence I'm (jokingly) harassing you about something that I want (horizontal tabs) on this particular browser. I did make some comments about floorp, but cmon.. who we kidding? The moment you release horizontal tabs on zen - I'm out of floop el o el. I'm all about the memes. The meme that you've created by wrongfully making the decision to not work on it - let alone release it. Whatever you decide I will still support you and I will still keep recommending zen to people, because zen is performance and feature -wise in the top 3 of windows browsers and thats a fact. I still want to talk about why horizontal tabs are crucial for some if not most people: With horizontal tabs/bars you have:
The points above are sensible arguments, but you also have to think about people who are just used to horizontal tabs (which are literally the majority and I'm saying this confidently without having legitimate proof for it). Hope this will make you feel less stressed out and more acceptable to why its so crucial both on a subjective level and an objective level. Whatever you do, we still love you. Harassing? Yes, but that's how we show love. (I have to mention that I'm sarcastically writing this, otherwise ppl are going to take it seriously again..) |

I wonder if the original horizontal tabbing system was completely removed in Zen browser? Can any of these options be implemented?
I want to say on behalf of myself and some people who are in favor of having horizontal tabs, we understand that your browser has a vertical tab philosophy, and we understand that it is difficult to make horizontal tabs to adapt to the browser, because it can break your sidebar features and so on,, although some people are used to horizontal tabs and they like Zen browser, not for vertical tabs, but for other things, for unique features, for speed improvements, etc., and of course we want the browser to have the possibility of 2 tab systems, like in Firefox, Edge, Vivaldi, but we understand that it is difficult to do and that it can break the philosophy, In general, we are grateful that there is such a browser as Zen, that you have created it and continue to develop it, because not everyone believed it when you announced on April 1 that there would be a new browser based on Firefox. |

+1 to the horizontal tabs. Vertical tabs are great on my desktop, but I am trying to switch over to Zen Browser on all my devices, and horizontal tabs just make sense on my 13" MacBook Pro because of the already cramped screen real estate. I also want to see the button title instead of just buttons. |

I'm new to Zen browser and +1 to the horizontal tabs. I'm not here to argue whether horizontal tabs are better or vice versa; the problem is that Zen Browser currently forces users to use vertical tabs, despite numerous user requests, like observable here, for the option to switch to a horizontal tab layout. While vertical tabs might suit some users, the lack of choice restricts users accustomed to the industry-standard horizontal layout found in virtually all other browsers and tabbed applications.
Proposed Solution: Implement an option in Zen Browser's settings to allow users to choose between horizontal and vertical tab layouts. This would empower users to select the layout that best suits their preferences and workflow. (Actually I found there is one: Benefits:
Conclusion: Good software should empower users, not restrict them. Some might want to say "if you don't like it, use something else", but not every user agrees with Zen Browser's philosophy from A to Z, but might still want to use it for other reasons, e.g. its unparalleled lightweight. (AFAIK speed in general cannot be achieved by adding plugins, unlike other features. After all, most browsers have a plugin for vertical tabs, even if it's not built in - but the inherent speed of a browser cannot be "implemented" that way, so it makes sense for non-Zen devotees, so to say, to use it if other conditions are met. ) |
