Plymentor 1.0.6

Choose a tag to compare

@zomBeeone zomBeeone released this 31 Oct 18:16

Plymentor, by Studio Nox: a chess training app for Windows with an AI coach.

Download

Download Plymentor-1.0.6-setup.exe below and run it, or get it from plymentor.com. It installs Plymentor for your Windows user and starts it; no administrator rights are needed. If you already have Plymentor, it offers this update itself: it asks you first, and downloads only the parts that changed.

The other two files (latest.yml, .blockmap) are for the app's updates. You don't need to download them.

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info → Run anyway.

New in 1.0.6: Book reader improvements

  • Back and forth through the moves: ← and → (or ◀ and ▶ under the board) go back and on through the board's moves — the book's, and the ones you play yourself — while the reading waits; ▶ Continue reads on from where it stopped. Clicking a move in the move list pauses the reading too. Going sentence by sentence is now Shift + ← and Shift + → (or ⏮ ⏭).
  • Any page at once: type a page's number in the box at the top (or press g, then the number) and press Enter.
  • Scanned books: the many ways a scanner's text recognition spells the pieces' figurines are read as their pieces, so many more of their moves are played on the board; and a diagram the reading found a few moves away in its game no longer teaches the reader the wrong pieces (a book's pawns read as bishops).

Books you have opened before have their diagrams read again once with this version (their place in the book is kept).

This release is built from the tag v1.0.6. Plymentor is free software under the GNU AGPL v3 or later.

If you already have Plymentor, it offers this update itself: it asks you first, and downloads only the parts that changed.

New in 1.0.5: Book reader improvements

  • Puzzle books: diagrams set in more chess fonts are read (books whose boards were not seen at all before), and a puzzle's number beside its diagram is found, so its solution, pages later, is played on the right board. A diagram that leaves out a king that does not matter has a position now: its moves are played, and the board does not show the king the book left out.
  • Exercises and their answers: an answer pages after its exercise is played on the exercise's board when its moves go on from there.
  • Ebooks' diagrams: white pieces in small pictures — on grey squares or hatched ones — are read right much more often, and a picture's mark of the side to move is read.
  • Diagrams set right by the moves: when a square of a diagram was read wrong, the reading that lets the book's next moves be played is taken.
  • Scanned books: a scan of two pages side by side, each in two columns, is read column by column, so older game collections are followed much better; a scan's "Bxc3" for a pawn's bxc3, an "!" read as "l", and figurines read as W (a queen) or & (a king) are put right by the position.

Books you have opened before are read again once with this version (their place in the book is kept).

This release is built from the tag v1.0.5. Plymentor is free software under the GNU AGPL v3 or later.

Plymentor 1.0.4

@zomBeeone zomBeeone released this 30 Oct 22:32

Plymentor, by Studio Nox: a chess training app for Windows with an AI coach.

Download

Download Plymentor-1.0.4-setup.exe below and run it, or get it from plymentor.com. It installs Plymentor for your Windows user and starts it; no administrator rights are needed. If you already have Plymentor, it offers this update itself: it asks you first, and downloads only the parts that changed.

New in 1.0.4: Book reader improvements

  • Pages in two columns are read in order: a scanned page in two columns — or a scan of two book pages side by side — is read down the left column, then the right one, instead of across both. Small scanned pages are read at a larger size, so fewer of their words come out wrong.
  • Set a diagram right: a diagram read wrong, or one that could not be read (marked "?"), can be set up on the board — ✎ Fix diagram, or click the diagram —: put the pieces where the book has them, choose the side to move, and save. The book is followed again from it, the position is kept with the book, and the book's other diagrams are read better: the reader learns the book's own pieces from it.
  • Diagrams read better: more piece styles to start from; the book's own pieces learnt from its diagrams that show a position of the game being read; white pieces on lightly hatched squares no longer lost; a large piece unlike the examples (a book's king) no longer taken for an empty square.
  • The board keeps up with the game: a diagram in a game, read with some squares wrong, is taken as the game's position when the moves after it go on from there (the board shows the right position instead of losing the game); after notes, moves like "12...Nd4" go back to the game's own line; moves such as "17. Ng5 c4!" right after a diagram count; in scanned books, "¢" and "€" read for an e are put right by the position.
  • Zoom: a slider sets a PDF page to any size (30–300% of the panel's width; also Ctrl + the mouse wheel, or + and −), besides Whole page and Fit width.

Books you have opened before are read again once with this version (their place in the book is kept).

This release is built from the tag v1.0.4. Plymentor is free software under the GNU AGPL v3 or later.

Fixed in 1.0.3

  • The Book reader's board did not take your moves. A move you play on it now pauses the reading; ▶ Continue reads on, and the board keeps your moves until the book's next move, then shows the book's position again (a click on the page, or "Back to the reading", brings it back at once).
  • A book could be missing from your books when you went back to them just as the reader was saving your place (until the list was opened again).

This release is built from the tag v1.0.3. Plymentor is free software under the GNU AGPL v3 or later.

Plymentor 1.0.2

@zomBeeone zomBeeone released this 29 Oct 18:20

Plymentor, by Studio Nox: a chess training app for Windows with an AI coach.

Download

Download Plymentor-1.0.2-setup.exe below and run it, or get it from plymentor.com. It installs Plymentor for your Windows user and starts it; no administrator rights are needed. If you already have Plymentor, it offers this update itself: it asks you first, and downloads only the parts that changed.

What's new in 1.0.2

  • Book reader, many more diagrams: boards set in more chess fonts (the TeX fonts of books set with LaTeX, more Alpha-like fonts, fonts that draw a board square by square, with its coordinates); boards printed as pictures in a PDF, even cut in strips; on scanned pages, boards in a frame whatever their squares look like (grey, dotted or hatched); boards with coordinates around them, with a move's squares coloured, or with coloured or faint squares.
  • Book reader, moves whose figurines a PDF lost: some books' figurine fonts come out as other characters; the reader now works out which piece each one is from the moves only that piece can make, and plays them.
  • Book reader, a move a scan misread: when only one move lets the moves after it be played, the board puts it in.
  • Book reader, the board keeps up with the book: it no longer loses the game where books used to lose it — a diagram's caption that repeats the move leading to it ("Position after: 31. Nf3"), the side to move a book marks under its diagrams ("W", "B?", "White to play"), a line about what would happen if the other side were to move ("Black to move loses: 7...Kg3 8.Ke2", played from the diagram with Black to move), a first move named in a sentence, the text going back to its line after notes, a book's games one after another.
  • Book reader, puzzle books: the solutions at the back of the book are played on their own puzzles (found by the puzzle's number), and boards in a chess font with rows full of pieces (an opening's position) are found too.
  • Book reader, more moves read: captures written with a capital X, castling written "O- O", "m" for mate, move numbers stuck to the word before them, and in scanned books (the text a scanner read) move numbers cut in two ("1 4.Nxe4"), an l for a 1, and letters read for digits in moves ("Racl"), put right by the position.
  • Book reader, scanned books: their diagrams are read by the book's own pieces — pawns told from bishops by their shapes, white from black for each piece by its own ink, and no more of a piece on a side than a game can have — and the figurines a scanner's text spells in many ways ("lLl", "'1W", ".t") are read as moves, the moves after each telling which piece it is; Zurich-style notation a scanner misread ("Bfl-g2", "10 e5 de") is read too.
  • Following a big book's moves takes a fraction of the time it did.
  • Books you opened before are read again once, with the new recognition (a scanned book's pages are scanned again, from the page you are at; an EPUB's pictures are not looked at again, only their boards read again).

Plymentor 1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@zomBeeone zomBeeone released this 28 Oct 20:00

Plymentor, by Studio Nox: a chess training app for Windows with an AI coach.

Download

Download Plymentor-1.0.1-setup.exe below and run it, or get it from plymentor.com.

What's new in 1.0.1

  • Book reader: a new tab for chess books. Add a PDF or an EPUB and Plymentor reads it to you with your coach's voice — the sentence it reads and the moves are marked on the page, and the board plays each move as the reading gets to it, variations included, with Stockfish's evaluation beside it. Pause, read up to twice as fast, click a sentence to read from there or a move to see it on the board; the book remembers where you stopped. Your coach does not talk while you are in the Book reader.
  • Diagrams: the reader recognises a book's diagrams — set in a chess font, or printed as pictures in scanned books and EPUBs — and the board shows each one when the reading gets there, then plays the moves from it. Click a diagram to see its position.
  • Scanned books: their text is recognised on your computer (OCR) — the page you are at first, kept for the next time — and moves the recognition read wrongly are put right by the position.
  • Older books: moves in descriptive notation ("P-K4", "Kt to K B 3") and moves spelled out in words ("Pawn to King's fourth", "knight to f3") are followed on the board too; when a book goes back to an earlier move by its number ("The correct move was 55.Kg7"), the board goes back to it.
  • The natural voice, much faster: it now runs on your graphics card when you have one (a one-time download of about 330 MB, in the background — it speaks as before meanwhile): readings start at once and go on without long pauses between sentences.
  • Reports from your coach: your coach can now add a report to the Reports screen by itself — over all your analysed games or the ones it picks (your last 20 games, one opening…) — and write it there; the new report opens on the Reports screen.
  • Stockfish on or off: your coach sees whether Stockfish's live analysis (the evaluation bar, the engine lines and the best-move arrow) is on for you on the Board and the Openings screen, and switches it on or off — when you ask, and while it asks you to find a move, so the engine doesn't give the answer away.
  • Exercises: in your deck on the Train screen, the exercise on the board is highlighted, and the ones you have done are marked "✓ Done" (until they are due again).
  • A faster coach: when your coach asks Stockfish about several positions at once, they are analysed side by side instead of one after the other; a position it has analysed is answered again at once; judging a move needs one search instead of two when the engine had already looked at it; and analysing your games uses more of your computer (about twice as fast). The same depth and the same quality as before.

Plymentor 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@zomBeeone zomBeeone released this 24 Oct 10:21

Plymentor, by Studio Nox: a chess training app for Windows with an AI coach.

Download

Download Plymentor-1.0.0-setup.exe below and run it, or get it from plymentor.com. It installs Plymentor for your Windows user and starts it; no administrator rights are needed.

The other two files (latest.yml, .blockmap) are for the app's updates. You don't need to download them.

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info → Run anyway.

What's in 1.0.0

  • The board: live analysis with Stockfish 19 (on your computer, multi-threaded), the judgement of every move you play, game review with an evaluation graph, and training games against eleven strengths.
  • Your coach: Claude Code, ChatGPT (Codex CLI) or Gemini (Antigravity CLI) with your own subscription, in the coach panel; installed from the app with their makers' official installers. The coach sees your board, runs Stockfish, analyses your games, reads them, shows positions — an opening is played out move by move from the starting position —, takes you to the right screen, quizzes you, writes reports, makes exercises, edits your opening repertoire with you and remembers you between sessions. It can talk to you.
  • Starting with your coach: the first time, you sign in to it in the coach panel (with your browser); then it greets you by itself — or press Start training with ….
  • Your games: import PGN files or download your games from Lichess and Chess.com, analyse them in batches, and get statistics and a written report with examples from your own games; exercises from your mistakes, with spaced repetition.
  • Openings: search by name, Stockfish's evaluation next to the board, your White and Black repertoires with a drill, and an explorer with your own games and your game database (a Scid 5 database you add once).
  • Safe by design: the coach programs run without file, shell or web tools. Text from games and databases is cleaned of hidden characters and can't give the coach orders.
  • Updates, when you say so: Plymentor shows what's new and installs a new version only when you choose. It downloads just the parts that changed, after a backup of your games. Every release is signed with Studio Nox's key.
  • Your data stays on your computer: no account and no Plymentor server; the coach works through the AI service you choose, with your own account.

This release is built from the tag v1.0.0. Plymentor is free software under the GNU AGPL v3 or later.
