Myrelith v0.2.0-alpha.1 — First Light

First Light is the first prerelease published under the Myrelith name. It rolls up the current browser-native editor work since v0.1.0-alpha.1 while keeping existing .webcut projects and legacy project markers compatible.

Highlights

  • Myrelith branding, .myrelith projects, the myrelith.pages.dev hosted app, and the new myrelith container package.
  • A fuller editing surface with captions, markers, snapping, speed changes and ramps, Media Pool collections and views, contextual menus, OS file drops, workspace layouts, and stronger accessibility.
  • Color correction, masks, chroma key, animation curves, dynamic zoom, scopes, audio meters, stabilization, point/box tracking, and manual lens correction.
  • Signed local .myrelith-plugin packages with review, enable/disable, bounded sandboxing, and fail-closed preview/export behavior.
  • Extensive resource-ownership, recovery, import, worker, audio, and cancellation hardening.

Use it

  • Hosted app: https://myrelith.pages.dev
  • Static web build: download myrelith-0.2.0-alpha.1-web.zip, verify it with SHA256SUMS.txt, and serve its contents from a static web server.
  • Container (Linux AMD64/ARM64):
docker run --rm -p 8080:8080 ghcr.io/zyfvhcfh87-rgb/myrelith:0.2.0-alpha.1

The same public OCI index is also pinned as sha-2a845c8 and has digest
sha256:ee060a7ea03d58dafc55152341db19d284dfd853c33354540a20043414a8aabd.

Verification

  • Release commit: 2a845c8d679826af617190c8936ed00d25db04a4
  • 233 Vitest files / 3,335 tests passed, plus 17 benchmark-runner tests.
  • TypeScript and Vite production build, oxlint, and the production dependency audit passed; the production audit found 0 vulnerabilities.
  • All 10 checked-in Chromium browser tests passed, including import/drop, recovery, accessibility, offscreen linked previews, and responsive project setup.
  • Static archive: 43 files, 2,914,162 bytes, SHA-256 aef2445b99969fb4285fdd287fd9f4cde5552938e9b890eee4b2e0bf8de73a96.
  • The container index was anonymously resolved from GHCR with Linux AMD64 and ARM64 images plus provenance/SBOM attestations.

Important alpha notes

  • This remains an experimental preview, not a production-ready editor. Keep source media, project files, and exports backed up.
  • Current desktop Chrome is the primary target; Edge is verified, while Firefox and Safari are not yet verified. Codec availability still varies by browser, operating system, and hardware.
  • Local ProRes and AC-3/E-AC-3 extensions cover import only. The bundled AC-3/E-AC-3 decoder includes FFmpeg-derived WebAssembly; this release is not a patent-clearance or downstream-redistribution certification.
  • Browser storage and remembered permissions are bound to the exact site origin. Moving between hostnames requires a portable project file and renewed local-media access.

Myrelith v0.1.0-alpha.1

Myrelith is a private-by-design non-linear video editor that runs in your browser.
Your source videos, audio, images, and project files stay on your device while
you edit and export.

The public prerelease label is still v0.1.0-alpha.1. The
hosted app tracks current master and includes
the work landed after this tag. The attached zip and GHCR image remain the
original 1 August 2026 tagged archive.

New saves use .myrelith and the myrelith-project marker. Existing .webcut
projects still open and are normalized.

Highlights

  • multi-track select, razor, trim, ripple, slip, slide, linked A/V, markers,
snapping, caption tracks, constant-speed retiming, and speed ramps
  • portable .myrelith projects with Save, Resume, Recent, offline editing,
media relinking, collections, optional editing proxies, and bounded local
    crash recovery
  • Inspector authoring for transforms, crop, blend modes, color, masks, chroma
key, keyframes, text overlays, stabilization, tracking, and manual lens
    correction
  • content-probed video/audio/still import with local ProRes and AC-3/E-AC-3
decoder fallbacks behind explicit resource limits
  • capability-aware MP4/WebM export with Auto, Compatibility, Web, Modern, and
explicit HEVC profiles; unsupported choices are never silently substituted
  • signed local plugin packages with review and fail-closed preview/export;
    there is no plugin marketplace
  • MIT license, privacy notice, third-party notices, security policy, community
files, CI, and a self-hostable GHCR container

Try it

The attached webcut-0.1.0-alpha.1-web.zip is the verified 1 August 2026
static production build. Its SHA-256 checksum is in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Preview boundary

This is an alpha prerelease, not a production-ready editor. Desktop Chrome
is the primary target; Windows Chrome 150 and Edge 150 passed the current gates,
while Firefox and Safari remain unverified. Codec availability varies by
browser, OS, and hardware.

Non-1× speed mutes clip audio. Timeline text overlays and caption tracks are
separate. Manual lens correction needs WebGL2. Local plugins can block export
when they cannot be prepared. Editing proxies never replace the original
export source.

The local AC-3/E-AC-3 import extension includes FFmpeg-derived WebAssembly.
This release is not a codec-patent, FFmpeg legal, low-memory, or universal GDPR
compliance certification. Read THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md before redistribution.

Verified tagged archive

The 1 August 2026 tagged archive passed:

  • 1,661/1,661 tests across 86 files
  • production build and oxlint
  • zero high-severity production dependency vulnerabilities
  • Linux CI on the reviewed PR head
  • built desktop/mobile launcher and legal pages Playwright QA

The hosted preview is later than that archive. See CHANGELOG.md and
README.md for the current public description.
