gp64 0.2.4
gp64 0.2.4 — 2026-10-15
DOS programs now see a 486, setup programs that looked hung now show their
menus, and modem games played over a network keep pace instead of falling
further behind.
Added
- DOS programs now run on an emulated 486 instead of a 386, so setup programs that pick settings by CPU choose their 486 options.
- A recording that stops early now writes the reason to
gp64.log, so you can see why even when gp64 was started from the desktop.
Fixed
- Setup programs that clear the screen using the colour under the cursor no longer show a black window that looks hung; DOS programs now start on a blank light-grey text screen, as on a real PC.
- The window no longer flashes white for about half a second at startup on Windows; it appears only once it holds a black frame.
Changed
- Once a modem call between two copies of gp64 0.2.4 or later is connected, the copies send the game's data instead of the modem's sound. Network hiccups no longer make the link fall further behind for the rest of the call. Calls to older versions still work as before.

gp64 0.2.3 — 2026-10-15
More of the drawing moves to the GPU: smooth and area scaling, the F12 menu
and the REC light no longer force the window back to the CPU, and the
release executable is smaller.
Changed
- Smooth and area scaling now run on the graphics card on Windows and macOS, with output identical to the CPU scaler. Only the CRT filter is still drawn on the CPU.
- Opening the F12 menu or recording no longer makes gp64 redraw the whole window on the CPU every frame; the menu and REC light are drawn by the graphics card as layers.
- The Windows executable is about 1.3 MB smaller, and emulation uses slightly less host CPU.

gp64 0.2.1
gp64 0.2.1 — 2026-10-15
Two-player link play over your LAN, the modem's speaker, a window that
remembers where you left it, and smoother, faster emulation.
Added
- Link two gp64 copies over the LAN: turn on SERIAL (a null-modem cable on COM1) or MODEM (the modem on COM2) in the F12 menu on both machines and they find each other.
- The F12 menu shows the connected peer and the COM port to choose in the game's own setup, for example
ON - DESK (COM1). - The modem's speaker plays through your speakers while dialling and connecting, following the modem's speaker setting.
- The window title shows CPU usage (as a share of one core) and, while the mouse is captured, the Ctrl+F10 hint to free it.
- The window reopens where it was and at the size it was, maximized if you left it maximized.
gp64 --script FILEruns an automation script that types keys and clicks the mouse at frame boundaries.- The Windows executable has an icon and version information.
Fixed
- Serial and modem programs no longer stall after one byte: COM1 and COM2 now raise their correct interrupts.
- The emulated CPU no longer gets stuck at a low speed after a load spike, such as opening the modem screen.
- Faster emulation of the game's screen drawing.
- Starting gp64 from a command prompt returns to the prompt straight away instead of waiting for the game to close.
THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.txtnow includes the libvpx copyright notice for the built-in video encoder.
Changed
- Live recordings of low-resolution modes are captured at twice the size (320x200 becomes 640x400) so they stay sharp when scaled, and recording encodes about twice as fast on x86-64.

Checks
- Windows x64: native release build (
x86_64-pc-windows-msvc, static C runtime), version/help CLI smoke, x64 PE machine type, Windows system DLL dependencies only, archive verification. - macOS (Apple Silicon): native release build, version/help CLI smoke, ARM64 architecture, Apple system library dependencies, archive verification.
Native window and audio acceptance was not exercised by these CLI checks.
Builds are unsigned: macOS is not Developer ID signed or notarized; Windows is not Authenticode signed.
