PunchClock 2.1.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 19:23
dd00cc2

Full Changelog: v2.0.3...v2.1.0

The old hours report is back: every shift on paper, with each employee's total, so times can be checked line by line before pay is worked out. The database is the same as in 2.0.3, so 2.1.0 installs over it and keeps all data.

Features Added:

  • Print hours worked (PDF) on the Reports tab. It lists every shift in the pay period the way the old report did: Time Punched In, Time Punched Out and Total Hours Worked for each shift, and each employee's Sum of Total Hours. It opens in the PDF viewer, ready to print or save
  • The weekday beside each shift, and a summary page with every employee's shifts and hours and the total for everyone
  • A star on every time a manager added or changed, with a note under the shift saying who changed it, when, and why, and what the time was before
  • Shifts that are not paid in the period (no punch-out yet, or ending after the period), voided punches and punch-outs with no punch-in are listed with the reason, instead of being left out
  • Totals are exactly the pay report's, so the printout and the CSV for payroll always agree
  • The footer says how to fix a wrong time: correct it on the Corrections tab and print again, so every change is kept in the audit log. It also names the audit log entry the report was printed at, so a printout kept on file can show later whether the history was altered
  • Each printout is recorded in the audit log like the CSV exports: who printed it, the period, and the file's fingerprint

Moving from the old PunchClock app (v1.x)? Follow the switchover steps in the README before anyone punches in the new app.

File Use
PunchClock-Setup-2.1.0.exe Installer. Includes the export and import tools for the switchover.
SHA256SUMS.txt Checksum of the installer.

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen asks for confirmation: click More info, then Run anyway.

PunchClock 2.0.3

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Oct 15:20

Full Changelog: v2.0.2...v2.0.3

A new app icon, and a way back into PunchClock when the only admin forgets their password. The database and the switchover tools are the same as in 2.0.2, so 2.0.3 installs over 2.0.2, keeps all data and is equally safe for the switchover.

Features Added:

  • New PunchClock icon: a clock with a time card, so the app is easy to spot. It appears on the desktop and Start menu shortcuts, the taskbar, every window's title bar, the import tool and the setup program
  • Forgot password on the Admin sign-in window. Another admin can still reset a forgotten password from Accounts; when no admin can sign in, PunchClock shows a recovery challenge, the site owner signs it with their owner key on their own computer, and the response lets the kiosk set a temporary password once. The account's owner must choose a new password at their next sign-in, and its sign-in lockout is cleared
  • Being at the kiosk PC is not enough to recover an account: the owner key never leaves the owner's computer, and each challenge works once, for 60 minutes
  • Every recovery is kept in the audit log: which account, when, on which PC, the challenge, the owner key's fingerprint and the reason given
  • PunchClock.OwnerKey, the owner's tool that makes the key and signs challenges (not part of the installer)

Moving from the old PunchClock app (v1.x)? Follow the switchover steps in the README before anyone punches in the new app.

SHA256SUMS.txt Checksum of the installer.

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen asks for confirmation: click More info, then Run anyway.

Full Changelog: v2.0.0...v2.0.1

Do not use this release. Its export tool still cannot read the old Access database ("Could not find installable ISAM"). Use v2.0.2 or later.

Bugs Fixed:

  • Export tool: "Unable to cast object of type 'System.Management.Automation.PSObject' to type 'System.IConvertible'" before reading any rows. This fix exposed the next error, fixed in v2.0.2
