@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 27 Oct 15:25

KonX 0.33.0 — Split screen and console windows

2026-10-27. Arrange open consoles with visible workspace controls and use smaller close buttons inside Home panels.

Changes

  • Click Split screen above the tabs or from a tab's right-click menu to arrange existing views in Workbench. Choose an open tab in each pane and resize with the divider.
  • Click Pop out to move the active console or tool into a separate Windows window. Drag its title bar to another monitor; use Dock back to return it.
  • Use Single view to return to one view without closing tabs. Splitting and popping out preserve existing connections and do not start new ones.
  • Small × icons now sit inside the top-right corner of each Home section panel. Customize Home restores hidden sections, and existing visibility choices are retained.
  • Keep saved sessions, encrypted logins, all 18 themes, layouts and terminal settings.

See the workspace guide, Home guide, and update guide.

Downloads and upgrading

Windows x64: installer, portable, and checksums.

Installed 0.6.2+ and portable 0.6.0+ can use Update KonX in the top-right header or Settings → Updates. Installed 0.6.0/0.6.1 requires one manual upgrade. Save drafts, stop listeners and captures, and disconnect before restarting. Both distributions keep the existing Windows profile.

Validation

Full suite: 1,083/1,083 passed. Windows packaging verified 162 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.33.0.

The new workspace workflow passed with two live loopback TCP consoles, preserving connection identity, output, logging and command focus through splitting, resizing, pop-out, native window movement and docking. Checks covered a missing second view, repeated actions, saved-layout failures, conflicting placement controls during a pending Split, native window closure, delayed source closure, and Classic/Focus return behavior. Existing panel, native pop-out, layout-model and theme workflows also passed. Home hide/restore, retained preferences and restart checks passed across the existing layout/theme matrix; the inset close controls were inspected at 900px.

Coverage

Automated release checks use isolated profiles and synthetic data. Physical equipment, live providers, physical multi-monitor changes, and an elevated installed upgrade require separate field testing. Executables remain unsigned.

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 27 Oct 14:41

KonX 0.32.0 — Save on-demand sessions

2026-10-27. Keep a connection you opened on demand in Saved Sessions without re-entering its connection settings or interrupting your work.

Changes

  • Choose Save session in an open terminal or SFTP tab, or from its application tab menu.
  • Review the filled-in connection settings, choose a name and folder, and optionally save login credentials using the existing encrypted local store.
  • Keep the live connection running while saving. Use Edit saved session afterward to update the same saved record.
  • Share the saved reference between a terminal and SFTP opened from it. Cloned on-demand connections can be saved separately. Saved connections can be included in Site workspaces.
  • Prefill a known authenticated username and available Quick Connect password. Login-prompt passwords and challenge answers are not recovered; enter a reusable password in the save form if needed.
  • Keep save requests associated with the created record through repeated clicks, closed dialogs and sidebar refresh failures. A failed write leaves the form available for retry.
  • Retain Home visibility choices, all 18 themes, workspace layouts, terminal palettes, clipboard controls and existing sessions.

See Save an on-demand connection, the user guide, and the update guide.

Validation

Full suite: 1,082/1,082 passed. Windows packaging verified 162 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.32.0.

The production UI workflow passed with an owned loopback SSH/SFTP server and a real process restart. Checks covered name/folder creation, encrypted password retention and opt-out, prompted username handling, unchanged connection identity, cancel, failed saves and retry, delayed saves after dialog/tab closure, failed list refresh, shared SFTP, independent clones, serial/Telnet options, saved-site references, and saving through a popped-out dialog after redocking. Existing session-management UI checks also passed. Save controls and the dialog were inspected at 900px.

Coverage

Automated release checks use isolated profiles and synthetic data. Physical equipment, live providers, physical multi-monitor changes, and an elevated installed upgrade require separate field testing. Executables remain unsigned.

KonX 0.31.0

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 27 Oct 14:09

KonX 0.31.0 — Customize Home

2026-10-27. Hide the Home sections you do not need and bring them back when wanted. KonX keeps your choices between launches.

Changes

  • Close Introduction, Quick connect, Recent sessions, Sessions, Network tools, or Keyboard using the section's × button.
  • Open Customize Home, choose visible sections or use Restore all, then Save. The control stays available when every section is hidden.
  • Retain your choices when reopening Home, changing workspace layouts, or restarting KonX. New profiles and upgrades from 0.30.0 or earlier initially show all sections.
  • Keep saved sessions, recent history, active connections, and tools intact. Closing a Home section only changes its visibility on the landing page.
  • Hiding Quick connect clears its unsaved password and stops a pending Save & connect action from opening a connection afterward. If the save finishes, the saved login remains available in Sessions.
  • Keep all 18 application themes, terminal-palette overrides, header updater, and terminal clipboard controls.

See Customize Home, the workspace guide, and the update guide.

Downloads and upgrading

Windows x64: installer, portable, and checksums.

Installed 0.6.2+ and portable 0.6.0+ can use Update KonX. The shortcut is at the top right in 0.28.0+, or on Home in older releases; Settings → Updates also remains available. Installed 0.6.0/0.6.1 requires one manual upgrade. Save drafts, stop listeners and captures, and disconnect before restarting. Both distributions keep the existing Windows profile. See the update guide.

Validation

Full suite: 1,081/1,081 passed. Windows packaging verified 160 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.31.0.

Home checks covered closing and restoring all six groups, keyboard controls, Save/Cancel and Restore all, rapid close requests, failed settings writes and retry, reopening Home while a save is pending, and persistence across a real process restart. Hiding and restoring Quick connect during a pending session save preserved the saved session without opening a connection. The controls were checked at 900px across all five layouts with dark, light, and animated themes. Existing session-login and recent-history checks also passed.

Coverage

Automated release checks use isolated profiles and synthetic data. Physical equipment, live providers, physical multi-monitor changes, and an elevated installed upgrade require separate field testing. Executables remain unsigned.

KonX 0.30.0

Choose a tag to compare

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 26 Oct 21:09

KonX 0.30.0 — Five Animated Themes

2026-10-26. Five new themes bring stronger glow and distinct animated backgrounds to KonX, with coordinated terminal and editor colors.

Changes

Theme Colors and motion
Ion Storm Violet and ice blue with branching electrical arcs and traveling points of light
Solar Flare Amber and copper with a glowing solar corona and slowly moving flares
Aurora Flux Mint and violet with flowing aurora curtains
Hyperdrive Ice blue and indigo with a moving starfield
Ghost Circuit Mint and amber with pulses traveling along circuit traces
  • Select a new theme in Settings → Appearance → Application theme, then Save.
  • Coordinate the interface, Notepad, and terminals set to Follow application theme. Explicit global and saved per-session terminal palettes retain their selected colors and opaque backgrounds.
  • Pause or resume animation from the header or Animate theme effects in Appearance. Pausing retains the colors and decorative background; Windows reduced motion also stops animation.
  • Use every theme with Classic, Docked Workbench, Incident Desk, Operations Wall, or Focus Workspace, including floating panels and native pop-outs.
  • Fix theme animation in hidden or minimized native pop-outs: each window now pauses according to its own visibility and resumes when visible if motion is enabled.
  • Keep all 13 earlier themes, including the five static palettes added in 0.29.0. KonX now offers 18 application themes, 11 of them animated.
  • Preserve saved theme, layout, motion, terminal-palette, and clipboard preferences during upgrades. The top-right updater and terminal clipboard controls introduced in 0.28.0 remain available.

See the theme guide and tester checklist, Appearance guide, and workspace guide.

Validation

Full suite: 1,077/1,077 passed. Windows packaging verified 159 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.30.0.

Theme checks exercised all 18 themes across five layouts, actual animated frames, pause/resume, Windows reduced motion, inactive and hidden output, native pop-out visibility and redocking, saved preferences, explicit terminal palettes, Monaco syntax colors, and packet/SIP readability. Live test-session text, copied output, and saved logs remained unchanged. The new terminal palettes achieved at least 4.91:1 contrast against sampled bright frames and 4.67:1 against the conservative all-white decoration bound.

Coverage

Automated release checks use isolated profiles and synthetic data. Physical equipment, live providers, physical multi-monitor changes, and an elevated installed upgrade require separate field testing. Executables remain unsigned.

KonX 0.29.0

Choose a tag to compare

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 26 Oct 20:04

Validation

Full suite: 1,075/1,075 passed. Windows packaging verified 158 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.29.0.

Focused Electron checks cover all 13 application themes across five workspace layouts, saving themes through Appearance, terminal and Notepad palettes, packet and SIP selection contrast, native pop-out synchronization, explicit session palette overrides, reduced motion, and header controls at compact-width transitions. New terminal semantic colors meet a measured 4.5:1 contrast minimum against their theme backgrounds.

Coverage

Automated release checks use isolated profiles and synthetic data. Physical equipment, live providers, physical multi-monitor changes, and an elevated installed upgrade require separate field testing. Executables remain unsigned.

KonX 0.28.0

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 26 Oct 14:27

KonX 0.28.0 — Header Updates and Terminal Clipboard Controls

2026-10-26. Updates are within reach from every workspace layout, with clearer terminal clipboard controls.

Changes

  • Move Update KonX from Home to the top-right header. Settings → Updates remains available, and updating still begins only when you choose it.
  • Replace the right-click behavior dropdown with Settings → Terminal → Paste clipboard on right-click. Existing menu/paste preferences are preserved. New profiles leave it off to open the terminal menu; turn it on to paste. Text selection and multiline-paste confirmation remain available.
  • Clarify Automatically copy highlighted text in Terminal settings. Existing saved preferences remain in effect; automatic copy is enabled by default for new profiles.
  • Copy completed selections immediately, including when you quickly clear a highlight and paste. Clipboard read failures are shown, and a pending paste or multiline confirmation cannot send text into a replacement connection after reconnecting.

See the terminal clipboard guide and update guide.

Installed 0.6.2+ and portable 0.6.0+ can use Update KonX from Home or Settings in the older version. Installed 0.6.0/0.6.1 requires one manual upgrade. Save drafts, stop listeners, and disconnect before restarting; the existing Windows profile remains in use.

Validation

Full suite: 1,074/1,074 passed. Windows packaging verified 157 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.28.0.

Focused Electron UI checks exercise the right-click checkbox, saved preferences, rapid selection copying, multiline approval/cancellation, bracketed paste, reconnect protection, clipboard failures, and pop-out/redocking behavior using an isolated clipboard adapter and owned loopback connection. Header checks cover the workspace layouts, all themes, reduced motion, and compact-width transitions.

Coverage

Release validation uses isolated profiles and owned test connections. Physical equipment, live providers, and an elevated installed upgrade require separate field testing. Executables remain unsigned.

KonX 0.27.1

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 23 Oct 20:59

KonX 0.27.1 — KonX-AI and Saved Provider Keys

2026-10-23. The contextual assistant is now KonX-AI, with improved encrypted provider-key management.

Changes

  • Rename Copilot to KonX-AI throughout current panels, tool actions, menus, status messages and guides. Existing conversations, evidence, reviewed outcomes and workspace references remain compatible.
  • Retain provider API keys in the local encrypted store, reuse saved keys for requests and connection tests, and provide a clear deletion control for the selected provider.
  • Preserve a newly entered key when validation or saving fails, and protect unsaved connection changes when closing or switching providers. Refresh an open KonX-AI panel after settings change so its test controls reflect the saved connection.
  • Flush encrypted settings before publication, preserve the previous saved configuration on write failure, and retain ownership of pending temporary files or handles for cleanup retry. Pending cleanup blocks an update and keeps the window available if closing fails; key changes are rejected during shutdown.

The investigation found that the prior settings form cleared an entered key even when saving failed, and an already open contextual panel could retain stale connection status. Existing encrypted-key reuse was already implemented; these findings do not establish that a successfully saved key was deleted from the user's profile.

Read the KonX-AI guide, provider setup guide, and user guide.

Installed 0.6.2+ and portable 0.6.0+ can use Update KonX. Installed 0.6.0/0.6.1 requires one manual upgrade. Save drafts, stop listeners, and disconnect before restarting; the existing Windows profile remains in use.

Validation

Full suite: 1,073/1,073 passed. Windows packaging verified 157 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.27.1.

A focused three-process Electron regression uses the real renderer, main-process provider client and Windows encryption with a synthetic Nyquest transport. It covers failed-save retry, repeated successful and rejected connection tests without re-entering or rewriting the key, independent provider settings, panel reopening, restart reuse, deletion with unsaved replacement edits, and a second restart confirming deletion. Native publication checks cover existing destinations, changed sources, Unicode paths and failure without an overwrite fallback.

Coverage

Tests use isolated profiles, synthetic API keys and responses, and owned loopback peers. No live Nyquest or paid-provider request is made. Live-provider response quality, physical equipment and an elevated installed upgrade remain unverified. Executables remain unsigned. Terminal commands in answers remain manual; editor actions do not save or upload automatically.

KonX 0.27.0

Choose a tag to compare

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 23 Oct 20:29

KonX 0.27.0 — Reviewed Copilot Actions

2026-10-23. KonX adds reviewed diagnostics, undoable editor replacements and saved answer notes to Copilot.

Changes

  • Review and run a bounded single-target Ping, DNS query or Traceroute from a completed Copilot answer.
  • Review an exact editor selection replacement, then recheck the live model, version and selection before one undoable edit; no automatic save or upload.
  • Save an exact answer or selected excerpt as a new local Knowledge note, with provenance.
  • Retain action targets, review digests and outcomes. Expired, stale and replayed reviews are rejected; uncertain outcomes never trigger an automatic retry.
  • Avoid the reproduced Windows initial-publication failure in Copilot, Incidents, Change Validation and saved sites with a native move that refuses to replace an existing destination. Preserve source identity checks and ownership after failed cleanup.

Read the Copilot guide and user guide.

Installed 0.6.2+ and portable 0.6.0+ can use Update KonX. Installed 0.6.0/0.6.1 requires one manual upgrade. Save drafts, stop listeners, and disconnect before restarting; the existing profile remains in use.

Validation

Full suite: 1,063/1,063 passed. Windows packaging verified 157 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.27.0.

Focused checks exercised real loopback Ping, DNS and Traceroute, actual Monaco edits and one-step undo, local Knowledge persistence, stale/replayed reviews, cancellation, lost acknowledgments, shutdown and pending-action recovery. Model responses were synthetic; no paid provider request was made.

Both packaged builds executed a reviewed loopback Ping, saved the exact reviewed note, applied and undid the selected editor change, then restarted and retained all three outcomes without repeating them. The smoke harness initially placed its restart assertion in the save phase and omitted an editor dropdown change event; those fixture errors were corrected, their logs retained, and the complete checks rerun.

The first full run passed 1,061/1,062 tests. Improved failure logging then reproduced the remaining saved-site failure: the first update after importing a workspace hit the same Windows publication error. The draft was correctly retained, which prevented the next delete confirmation expected by the test. The shared publication fix was extended to saved sites before rebuilding and repeating the release gates. Full errors and fixture failure artifacts are now retained instead of being hidden by a four-line log limit.

Coverage

Automated checks use isolated profiles, synthetic provider credentials and responses, offline data, and owned loopback peers. Live-provider answer quality, physical equipment, and an elevated installed upgrade remain unverified. Executables remain unsigned. Answers display after complete redaction, even for streaming transports. Redaction recognizes configured credentials and known formats; arbitrary sensitive text still requires review.

An isolated Electron stress probe reproduced 30 failures in 500 replacements after initial hard-link publication and removal of the temporary alias, with tracked handles closed. The native no-replace move control completed 500/500 replacements. With the corrected publication boundary, the real action-store workload completed 500 lifecycles and 2,000 replacements without failure. Original failure evidence was retained. Native regressions also cover existing destinations, long Unicode paths, changed source versions, permanent failure and retained cleanup. These measurements apply to this Windows host and Electron runtime; persistent external file locks can still produce a visible save error.

Terminal command execution remains outside the action catalog. Commands in answers remain text for manual review; the existing session identity does not establish that the remote target and command mode are still appropriate. Editor actions modify only the reviewed live selection and never save or upload a file automatically.

KonX 0.26.0

Choose a tag to compare

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 23 Oct 20:12

KonX 0.26.0 — Investigation Copilot

2026-10-23. KonX adds device, topology, event, site, incident, runbook and change-validation evidence to Copilot.

Changes

  • Attach explicitly selected device facts and complete command output, snapshot changes, topology nodes or links, and retained event messages.
  • Combine selected site references, incident evidence, completed runbook steps and change-validation records in one reviewed conversation.
  • Keep original source references, collection times, manual decisions and uncertainty distinct. Attaching does not connect sessions, collect from devices, open referenced files or execute maintenance.
  • Serialize incident reads with saves, retain ownership after cleanup failures, and protect incident work during shutdown and updates. Incident and Change Validation file replacement now retries transient Windows sharing errors within a bounded interval, rechecking both file identities and versions before each attempt.

Validation

Full suite: 1,033/1,033 passed. Windows packaging verified 151 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.26.0.

Coverage

Automated checks use isolated profiles, synthetic provider credentials and responses, offline data, and owned loopback peers. Live-provider answer quality, physical equipment, and an elevated installed upgrade remain unverified. Executables remain unsigned. Answers display after complete redaction, even for streaming transports. Redaction recognizes configured credentials and known formats; arbitrary sensitive text still requires review.

Earlier isolated runs encountered intermittent Windows EPERM during Incident and Change Validation saves. This release removes overlapping incident reads and adds bounded, identity-checked replacement retries. Twenty real Electron storage cycles completed 60 replacements without a failure; deterministic tests cover sharing errors, changed targets, cleanup failure and retry. The cause of the original external sharing errors remains unproven, and persistent locks still produce a visible error rather than overwriting an unexpected file.

A separate Electron stress probe reproduced intermittent failures after initial hard-link publication and removal of its temporary alias, with no tracked handles open. The native cause remains unknown; 0.26.0 does not claim to eliminate that publication-related failure. A save error must be resolved before retrying work, and pending outcomes remain owned rather than being reported as saved.

The first portable smoke run stopped when a new Change Validation record did not advance to Baseline; its assertion did not retain the underlying UI error, so that cause is unconfirmed. The assertion now retains that error, and the next complete portable run passed. The original failed evidence is retained. Four older isolated UI fixtures also needed the newly imported investigation modules copied into their test directories before the full suite could run successfully.

KonX 0.25.0

@256kMagic 256kMagic released this 23 Oct 19:54

KonX 0.25.0 — Traffic Copilot

2026-10-23. KonX adds packet, readable stream, SIP/RTP, capture comparison, security and wireless evidence to Copilot.

Changes

  • Attach a selected decoded packet, an already analyzed readable stream, a SIP call with SDP, or an RTP quality report from its existing analysis view.
  • Explain selected capture-comparison changes, retained remote-capture reports, security findings, Wi-Fi observations and Mist entities.
  • Preserve frame references, original collection scope, coverage and omissions. Attaching performs no new capture, parsing, account query, audio export or file read.

Validation

Full suite: 1,014/1,014 passed. Windows packaging verified 149 source files and 9 runtime dependencies. Packaged SSH passed 28 negotiation and 16 key-format checks; serial passed 27 synthetic checks. Unpacked and portable builds passed isolated save/restart smoke checks. Executable product versions match 0.25.0.

Coverage

Automated checks use isolated profiles, synthetic provider credentials and responses, offline data, and owned loopback peers. An isolated unpacked smoke run hit Windows EPERM while atomically replacing a Change Validation record. The next run and the portable run passed. This and the earlier intermittent incident-manifest rename error remain under investigation; this release does not claim to fix them.
