Groups and symmetries drawn true · 2026-10-11

  • Gray-Scott reaches all four of its listed settings. The feed slider now goes down to 0.014, so the self-replicating U-skate (F 0.014, k 0.054) and the labyrinths (F 0.022, k 0.051) can be set, along with spots and stripes. At low feed the kill rate is held just under the point where the pattern dies out, and the k slider moves down with it, so no setting gives a blank canvas.
  • Kolam and sona draw each line once. Every thread was drawn twice, once in each direction and in two colors, which showed as a doubled, two-tone line. Each thread is now one line in one color: a single line for the sona, and one or three threads for the kolam as the grid size decides.
  • The wallpaper groups have their real symmetries. All 17 groups used to sit on a square grid with a motif that was a mirror image of itself, so the three-fold and six-fold groups showed no three-fold turn at all and several others gained mirrors they do not have. Each group is now drawn on its own lattice with a letter F, which has no symmetry of its own, so every turn, mirror and glide in the picture belongs to the group.
  • The Cayley graphs draw the groups they name. S₃, Q₈, A₄, A₅ and PSL₂(7) are now built from their generators, with an element at every vertex and an edge for every multiplication by a generator. Arrows show which way each generator of order greater than two turns. A₄ and A₅ come out as the truncated tetrahedron and truncated icosahedron. The Mathieu graphs on 11 and 12 points use the standard generators, which produce M₁₁ and M₁₂ themselves. The notes describe what is drawn.
  • The app menu shows its Help heading, and the Foreword has its own entry. When the welcome dialog went in 7.0.10, Showcase, Foreword, References and What’s new moved to the end of the app menu, but they showed as a plain run of items with no heading. They now sit under a Help heading, and the guided tours menu beside the catalog gains Read the foreword, so the Foreword opens without the app menu.
  • The installed app carries the current name. Installed as an app, AEON still called itself AEON: Fractal & Sacred Geometry on its splash screen and in the app switcher, with the old feature list as its description. It is now AEON: Universal Dynamics Reactor, the name the page already used, and a check keeps the two the same. The home-screen label stays AEON.
  • The projective plane fills the frame. Boy’s surface opened small and left of center, about half the size of the other figures. It now opens centered and at their size.
  • The Exponential Map opens on its structure. Its first view was mostly two flat dark half-planes with a thin seam between them. It now opens closer in, centered on the cusp of the main region, with the branching filaments along its edge filling the frame.
  • The solid cell stands out on the star 4-polytopes. Two pairs of star polytopes share every edge and face and differ only by their solid cell, which the wireframe drawn over it all but hid, so each pair looked the same. The wireframe is now dimmer and the cell’s outline is drawn on top in a heavier line.
