Give your agents the power to search, read, and research the web, powered by AREX’s public API.

This is the first public release of the AREX CLI, built on the generally available AREX public API v1.

Install

Node.js 22 or later:

npm install -g @arex-research/cli@1.0.1

Or, without Node.js, on macOS, Linux and WSL:

curl -fsSL https://github.com/AREX-Research/arex-cli/releases/download/1.0.1/install.sh | AREX_VERSION=1.0.1 sh

Standalone executables for macOS, Linux, and Windows are attached below.

Get started

arex setup      # save your API key
arex doctor     # check it
arex search "recent advances in AI agents"
arex research "Compare current agent evaluation frameworks"

Create an API key at https://arex-research.com/platform/console/keys.

What's included

  • arex search, arex contents, and arex research, with human-readable output by default and --json for scripts and agents.
  • arex research waits for the answer; --detach returns the run immediately, and arex run status, wait, cancel, and delete manage it afterwards.
  • arex skill install installs the bundled Agent Skill so coding agents can use AREX. The Skill is also attached as arex-skills-1.0.1.tar.gz.
  • Forward compatible: unfamiliar Research response values are preserved in output, and an unfamiliar status is treated as still in progress while waiting.
