Releases: ASarafanov/fracturerecomp
Release list
v0.4.0
First start
- Unpack the zip somewhere you can write to (not
Program Files). - Start
fracture.exe. The program is not code-signed, so Windows may show
"Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. - Choose your
.isowith Browse... (or drop it onto the window), pick
the install folder if you want another one, and press Install. - Press Play. With the version 2 disc the program restarts once right
after installing; later starts go straight to the game.
Requirements: Windows 10 (1903 or later) or 11 x64, a Direct3D 12 or Vulkan
graphics card, about 4 GB free, and one of the two discs above.
Updating from v0.3.0
Unpack the new version over the old folder; the game files and your
settings stay. The archive now carries fracture_v1.dll and
fracture_v2.dll (the recompiled game of each release) next to a much
smaller fracture.exe; keep them together.
The archive contains the recompiled program and its runtime libraries, no
game data. Third-party licenses are in the licenses folder.
v0.3.0 — download and play
Download, unpack, play
From this version on there is a ready-to-run download: no Visual Studio, no Python, no build. You still need your own Xbox 360 disc image of Fracture; the program copies the game files from it on the first start.
- Download:
FractureRecomp-v0.3.0-windows-x64.zip(32.6 MB, under Assets below) - SHA-256:

Requirements: Windows 10 (1903 or later) or 11 x64, a Direct3D 12 or Vulkan graphics card, about 4 GB free, and the Xbox 360 release of Fracture (title ID 4C4107D4, default.xex SHA-256 13fa6817089233d6d2b30adeca5c8bf74871ea28d0c620253aade6ee89557db2).
What's new
- Prebuilt release archive with an install screen on the first start: checks the disc image, copies the game files with a progress bar, can be cancelled and continues after an interruption; already extracted game files can be used instead. Mouse, keyboard and controller.
- Vulkan: Settings > Graphics > Graphics API (Automatic, Direct3D 12, Vulkan). Automatic uses Vulkan under Proton or Wine (Steam Deck, Linux) and Direct3D 12 on Windows; without a Vulkan driver or GPU the game starts with Direct3D 12. Graphics Card and Render Path follow the API in use.
- A moved or copied game folder is found again (
game\next to the program), for example after copying it to another PC or a Steam Deck. - Folders with non-Latin names (for example
C:\Users\Иван\Downloads) work: settings, logs, dropped files and achievements in a localized Documents folder. tools/package_release.pybuilds the release archive.
Building from source
setup.bat still works: git pull, then .\setup.bat path\to\Fracture.iso. Setup now builds the ReXGlue SDK from source with Vulkan (the SDK's own Windows package has none), so Git is a new requirement (winget install --id Git.Git). See the README.
Known limits
- Not code-signed: SmartScreen and some antivirus programs may warn.
- Steam Deck / Proton not tested yet.
- The game is not paused behind the settings screen.
The archive contains the recompiled program and its runtime libraries, no game data. Third-party licenses are in the licenses folder.
v0.2.0 — settings screen
An in-game settings screen, controller support for it, and an experimental 60 FPS mode.
No game files and no prebuilt
fracture.exeare included. The executable contains code translated from the game, so it is built on your machine from your own disc image by the setup program below.
What's new
Settings screen
Press Esc or F1, or RB + Start on a controller (R1 + Options on a DualSense). The screen works with the keyboard, the mouse and a controller, and the game gets no input while it is open.
| Category | Settings |
|---|---|
| Display | Fullscreen, monitor, window size, keep aspect ratio, allow tearing |
| Graphics | Frame rate (30, or 60 as an experiment), graphics card, internal resolution (1x to 4x), anti-aliasing (FXAA), texture filtering, render path (fast RTV or accurate ROV) |
| Controls | Controller API (SDL or XInput), the shortcut that opens the screen, keyboard and mouse, mouse look and sensitivity |
| Audio | Mute, audio latency |
| System | Restart now, revert pending changes, close the screen, quit |
- Some settings apply at once. The others turn yellow and take effect after a restart: press R (X on a controller) twice, or use System > Restart Now.
- Choices are saved to
settings.tomlnext tofracture.exe. Delete a line to go back to the default. Command-line flags still win; the screen marks those settings with*.
60 FPS (experimental)
Graphics > Frame Rate switches between 30 and 60 while you play. The game was made for 30 FPS; at 60 it kept its normal speed in testing, but some of its timers count frames, so 60 stays marked experimental. If anything moves too fast, switch back to 30.
Known limits
- Rendering is Direct3D 12 only: the prebuilt ReXGlue SDK 0.10.0 GPU plugin has no Vulkan.
- The game keeps running behind the settings screen; it only gets no input.
- There is no language setting yet: which languages the disc carries is not known.
How to run the game
1. What you need
- Windows 10/11 x64
- Your own disc image (
.iso) of the Xbox 360 release of Fracture. Setup checks that it is the supported version (title ID4C4107D4,default.xexSHA-25613fa6817089233d6d2b30adeca5c8bf74871ea28d0c620253aade6ee89557db2). - About 5 GB of free disk space, not counting the
.iso - Python 3.9 or newer (from python.org, or
winget install --id Python.Python.3.12) - Build tools, installed once:
winget install --id Microsoft.VisualStudio.2022.BuildTools --override "--passive --wait --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.VCTools --includeRecommended"
winget install --id LLVM.LLVM
2. Get the source
Download Source code (zip) below and unpack it to a folder, for example C:\Games\fracturerecomp.
Updating from v0.1.0: unpack the new source over your existing folder (keep game\, third_party\ and out\) and run setup again. It skips the extraction and the SDK download and rebuilds fracture.exe.
3. Run setup
Drag your .iso onto setup.bat. Or open PowerShell in that folder and run:
.\setup.bat C:\path\to\Fracture.iso
Setup checks the image, extracts the game files into game\ (about 4 GB), downloads the ReXGlue SDK 0.10.0 and verifies its SHA-256, recompiles the game and builds fracture.exe (about 5 minutes on a 16-thread CPU), and writes fracture.toml next to the exe so it finds the game files. When it prints Run: ...\fracture.exe, press any key to close the window.
4. Play
Double-click out\build\win-amd64-relwithdebinfo\fracture.exe, or from PowerShell:
& .\out\build\win-amd64-relwithdebinfo\fracture.exe
An Xbox controller is recommended; a DualSense is detected too.
Troubleshooting
- "this is not Fracture" or "default.xex differs from the supported release": the image is a different version. The recompilation settings are made for one specific executable.
--forcetries anyway but will most likely crash. - "missing: clang ..." or "Visual Studio C++ build tools not found": install the build tools above, open a new terminal, and run setup again.
- The SDK archive disappears right after download: Microsoft Defender has flagged the official ReXGlue SDK archive as a potentially unwanted program on at least one machine. Setup checks the archive against the SHA-256 published on the SDK's GitHub release and stops if it is altered or missing. Whether to allow it (Windows Security → Protection history) or exclude the
third_party\rexglue-sdkfolder is your decision; then run setup again. - PowerShell says "Unexpected token": a command that starts with a quoted path needs
&in front of it. - A setting made the game fail to start: delete its line from
settings.tomlnext tofracture.exe, or delete the whole file. - Running setup again skips the steps that are already done.
Changes since v0.1.0
- Settings storage (
settings.toml), restart, and--fracture_dump_cvarsto list every setting the SDK offers - The settings screen (keyboard and mouse)
- Controller support: the game's controller reads go through a wrapper that hides input from the game while the screen is open and opens the screen with RB + Start
- More settings: graphics card, render path, window size, audio latency
- 60 FPS option: a hook on the game's Direct3D presentation interval
- README: the settings screen and the new source files
v0.1.0 — first release
First release of the unofficial native PC recompilation of the Xbox 360 version of Fracture, built on the ReXGlue SDK.
The game boots and runs on the test machine (Windows 11, GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER). It has not been played through or tried on other hardware yet.
No game files and no prebuilt
