Release Notes - Version 2.0.0

Features:

Migrated to TOML Configuration: Shifted the underlying configuration storage from JSON to TOML, offering a much cleaner, more readable, and user-friendly format for managing your environments.

Dynamic Expression Evaluation & Ternary Support: Introduced powerful expression parsing supporting ternary operators (${condition ? then : else}) within variables and final run commands. This allows for highly adaptive command workflows based on runtime conditions.

External Command Interoperability (cmd()): Added a new cmd(...) syntax to execute external shell commands on the fly and seamlessly embed their stdout results directly into your configuration variables. This like dynamic expressions must be used within ${...}.

Global Shell Configuration: Implemented a customizable global shell property that automatically defaults to your operating system's native shell, but can be explicitly overridden in your configuration file to match your workflow.

Command Inspection capabilities: Added a new feature to list comprehensive details of all configured commands within your setup, providing better visibility and easier management of your custom toolchain.

Global Context Variables (The cry namespace): Introduced a suite of global quality-of-life variables—including cry.os, cry.cwd.basename, cry.cwd.fullpath, and cry.shell—greatly simplifying how users query host system info and paths.

Bug Fixes and Improvements:

  • Re-engineered core parsing mechanics with a custom lexer, token stream, and AST evaluator for robust execution.

  • Optimized cross-platform path resolution and environment checking.

Known Issues:

  • No known issues reported in this release.

Future Plans:

  • Planned enhancements include support for positional arguments, expanded math operations within expressions, and dependency resolution between variables.

Your feedback is invaluable for future improvements. Please share any issues or suggestions via GitHub or email.
