Screen memory for Hermes — now with Hermes on your Mac or on a home server.
What's new
- Client and server. The Mac app now only captures and uploads.
xcreen-serverruns next to Hermes Agent — on the same Mac (complete install) or on a Linux/macOS machine you reach over Tailscale (split install) — and owns the screen history, the Hermes session and your notes. Same code either way, one stable protocol. Design: client and server. - Never digests on the wrong model. Automatic batches wait until the xCreen default model is applied, and resume on their own when it becomes available.
- Smaller history. Screenshots are recompressed to JPEG once their batch is digested (~8× smaller, ~95% of OCR-readable words kept); the digest itself always sees the lossless capture.
- Keeps capturing offline. If the server is unreachable, the Mac queues captures in a private outbox and uploads them later (
xcreen flushto push now). - New commands:
xcreen server,xcreen flush; on the serverxcreen-server init|serve|token|doctor|config|migrate-journal.
Install
- Hermes on the same Mac:
bash scripts/install.sh(upgrades 1.x in place, keeping your history, session and settings). - Hermes on a server:
bash scripts/install-server.sh --tailscalethere,bash scripts/install.sh --client --server http://SERVER:8765on the Mac. - Moving an existing install to a server: see INSTALL.md.
The zip below contains the Mac app only (not notarized: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway). The server installs from a checkout.
Changes to know about
- With a split install, screenshots, OCR, receipts and notes live on your server; secure it accordingly. Requests are authenticated with a bearer token; plain HTTP is only accepted on loopback, private networks and Tailscale. See SECURITY.md.
- Digests of evidence that was already uploaded continue while the Mac is locked or asleep (Integrity ON still stops them).
