DockFlow 1.90 (Beta)
Built from main at e883d4c (Bump version to 1.90 (1.90)). Everything in 1.89 Beta, plus two fixes for App Folders and ExtraDock found in beta testing.
π Fixed
- Apps in an App Folder stay open on a preset switch β with "Close apps that aren't in the preset" on, switching to a preset closed apps that were only inside one of its App Folders. Apps in the preset's folders now count as part of the preset, also in the Protect unsaved work preview and the AI assistant's approval sheet.
- A preset never hides all of your ExtraDock docks β a preset saved while a dock was turned off in ExtraDock remembered that dock as hidden. After you turned that dock on (and the others off), every preset switch and every ExtraDock restart hid your only dock, so ExtraDock looked broken until you showed the dock again from its menu bar. If a preset would hide every dock that's turned on in ExtraDock, DockFlow now leaves those docks showing.
β What to test
- App Folder apps stay open: "Close apps that aren't in the preset" on. Put an app (say Grok) only inside an App Folder of preset X, open it, switch to preset X β the app stays open. An open app that's in neither the preset nor its folders still closes.
- Preview: Protect unsaved work on, same setup β the preview lists the folderβs app under "Left alone", not "Will quit".
- ExtraDock (5.2.4 Beta 4): in a preset's ExtraDock tab, switch off the only dock that's turned on in ExtraDock and apply the preset β the dock stays visible. With two docks on, switch one off β that one hides as before.
- ExtraDock restart: after the step above, quit and reopen ExtraDock β your dock comes back and stays visible.
- App Folders from ExtraDock: click an App Folder from ExtraDock's Live Dock several times, launch apps from it and switch presets β ExtraDock's docks never disappear. If they do, use Settings β Diagnostics β Export Logsβ¦ in both DockFlow and ExtraDock and send both files to support@appitstudio.com.
- Everything in the 1.89 checklist below still applies.
1.89 Beta notes
DockFlow 1.89 (Beta)
App Folders in your Dock, an AI Assistant connection, a one-key way to bring the Dock back to your locked display, and a safer way to close apps when you switch presets.
π New
- App Folders β group apps into a themed folder that lives in your Dock. Click the folder and a grid of its apps opens right next to it; pick an app to launch it. Create one in a preset: Edit Preset β Apps β App Folder, name it, add up to 30 apps and pick one of 38 themes with a live preview. Free for everyone!
- AI Assistant (MCP) β Claude, ChatGPT (Codex), Cursor, VS Code and other AI assistants can now read your presets and, if you allow it, create, edit and apply them for you. Turn it on in Settings β AI Assistant, where one click sets up each assistant. Changes need "Allow Changes", and anything big (applying a preset, deleting, moving the Dock) asks for your approval first and shows which apps will close. Deleted presets are backed up and can be restored.
- Move Dock to Locked Display shortcut β set a hotkey in Settings β Hotkeys β Action Shortcuts to send the Dock straight back to your Lock Dock display. No key is set by default.
- Move the Dock back from ExtraBar β with ExtraBar 1.7.4, the DockFlow widget has a "Move Dock to Locked Display" item (also in its right-click menu). If Lock Dock is off, it offers to open the Lock Dock settings. Your existing ExtraBar connection keeps working, no reconnect needed.
- Protect unsaved work β new option in Settings β Preset Switching β Closing Apps (off by default). When it's on, a preset switch asks apps to quit but never force-quits them, so a "Save changes?" dialog can't lose your work; apps that stay open are listed in one notice. Switches you make yourself first show a preview of what will quit, open and stay, with Switch / Cancel and "Don't ask again for this preset".
β¨ Improved
- Lock Dock at login β if your monitor is already connected when you log in, DockFlow now moves the Dock to your locked display right away (with "Move the dock back automatically" on). Turning Lock Dock on also moves it straight away.
- Preset editor stays in sync β if a preset changes while its editor is open (an AI assistant edit, a folder rename, the Dock auto-save), the editor now shows the change instead of saving its old copy over it. Renaming a preset saves right away, and a name that's already used is refused.
- Quieter dockflow:// links β a link that can't be opened (for example, a preset that no longer exists) now shows a notification instead of stealing focus with an alert, so Raycast, Shortcuts and Keyboard Maestro keep working.
π Fixed
- Relocate Locked Dock β the menu bar item is now greyed out while Lock Dock is off. Before, it moved the Dock to the main display.
- Lock Dock remembers your display β after a monitor sleeps, wakes or reconnects, Lock Dock goes back to the display you chose. Before, it could stay stuck on the built-in display until DockFlow was relaunched.
β QA checklist
Quick checks for the team and beta testers. Tick each one and report anything off to support@appitstudio.com.
Tip: before testing preset switches, back up your Dock with defaults export com.apple.dock ~/dock-backup.plist.
- Basics: install over 1.88 β app launches, license stays active, no Keychain password dialog, presets are all there.
- Protect unsaved work off (default): "Close apps that aren't in the preset" on, TextEdit with unsaved text, switch to a preset without TextEdit β same as before (save dialog, then TextEdit is closed about 2 s later).
- Protect unsaved work on: switch from the menu bar β a preview lists TextEdit under Will quit; Cancel β nothing changes. Switch again and press Cancel in TextEdit's save dialog β TextEdit stays open with your text, and about 15 s later a notice names it.
- Preview with a hotkey: "Ask before switching" on + Protect unsaved work on, use a preset hotkey β only the preview appears (no second alert). Tick "Don't ask again for this preset" β next switch has no preview; Settings shows "Show Preview Again".
- App Folder create: Edit Preset β Apps β App Folder β name it, add 3 apps, pick a theme β Create Folder, apply the preset β the folder tile shows in the Dock with the theme icon.
- App Folder open: click the tile β the grid opens next to it within a moment; click an app β it launches and the grid closes. Escape, a click outside or clicking the tile again also closes it.
- App Folder edit: change the theme or add an app β Save β the Dock icon updates without clicking the tile.
- App Folder rename: rename the folder β Save β click the tile β the grid still opens with the new name (the Dock label updates the next time you apply the preset).
- App Folder delete: remove the folder row from the preset β you're asked whether to delete the folder too.
- AI Assistant setup: Settings β AI Assistant β turn on Allow AI assistants β status shows Ready, Check Connection succeeds. Install for Claude Desktop (or copy the command for Claude Code / Codex), restart it, ask "list my DockFlow presets" β your presets are listed.
- AI read-only: Allow Changes off β ask the AI to create a preset β it's refused as read-only.
- AI changes: Allow Changes on β create a preset, add an app, rename it β DockFlow's window and menu update right away.
- AI apply: ask the AI to apply a preset that closes apps β an approval sheet lists the apps that will close; Cancel changes nothing; Allow applies it like a normal switch.
- AI delete + restore: delete a preset through the AI (approve the sheet), then ask it to list backups and restore β the preset comes back with its apps.
- Editor in sync: keep a preset's editor open and ask the AI to add an app to it β the app appears in the editor; then remove a different app in the editor β the AI's app stays.
- Duplicate name: rename a preset to a name another preset already uses β an "Another preset is already named β¦" message, the old name stays.
- AI with DockFlow closed: quit DockFlow, ask the AI anything β it says DockFlow isn't running (DockFlow doesn't relaunch by itself).
- Lock Dock hotkey (2 displays): Lock Dock on, set the "Move Dock to Locked Display" hotkey, move the Dock to the other display, press it β the Dock goes back.
- Lock Dock off: turn Lock Dock off β menu bar "Relocate Locked Dock" is greyed out; the hotkey shows "Turn on Lock Dock first" and opens the Lock Dock pane.
- Lock Dock at login (2 displays): auto-move on, Dock on the laptop screen, log out and back in with the monitor attached β the Dock moves to the locked display within a few seconds, once.
- Lock Dock reconnect (2 displays): unplug the monitor, plug it back in β the Dock returns and Settings shows "Currently locked to ".
- ExtraBar widget (ExtraBar 1.7.4): connected widget β "Move Dock to Locked Display" brings the Dock back; with Lock Dock off it offers "Open Lock Dock Settings". Presets still switch from the widget.
- Broken link: run
open -g "dockflow://switch?id=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"in Terminal β a "couldn't open that link" notification, no alert window, focus stays where it was. - Basics: Check for Updates works, no crash after 10 min of normal use.
