Devil Designer 0.13.0 - New Simulation Engine & Live Grab
What's new in 0.13.0
A new simulation engine built on Geometry Nodes replaces Blender's Cloth modifier.
- Grab cloth while it simulates. Pull or push it live with a radius ring at the cursor. Ctrl+wheel sets the radius.
- Keep now refines the drape at your Quality setting and checks it against the body.
- Requires Blender 5.2 or newer.
Known issues
- Avatars with the whole torso removed: garments can fall off and Keep refuses.
- Skirt hems can crumple at one side.
- Cloth snaps a little when released from Grab.
- Tested on one NVIDIA PC so far.
Details
Simulation
- Simulate runs until you pause and accepts live input. About 30 FPS while grabbing on an avatar of about 90k triangles, measured on one PC.
- Sewing, pins, tacks, body contact and self-contact all run in the new engine.
- Your frame rate and timeline return after Keep or Reset.
Grab
- The camera stays where you put it, and the wheel zooms as usual.
- Pull follows your hand across the view. Push presses along the surface.
Fixes
- Keep no longer crashes on seams with points that have no cloth around them.
- Library garments saved with older settings load at the nearest allowed value.
- Changing Quality after draping no longer blocks Keep.
- A refused Simulate leaves your timeline untouched.
- Escape and clicking outside close menus in Grab.
Also known
- Fabrics are not calibrated against real cloth, and some look alike.
- Cloth can be pulled through itself while held.
- Small avatars may need sleeve fixes on the tee.
- If you change pose or shape keys, Reset and simulate again.
Devil Designer 0.12.0 - Native UI, Arrangement & Selection Tools
What's new in 0.12.0
Avatar Picker (Native Object Field)
- Rebuilt the Body card's Avatar selector as a native Blender-style object field with search-in-place, scrollable scene mesh listings, clear button, and a viewport eyedropper.
Arrangement Points & Symmetrical Placement
- Arrangement points now appear as clean surface discs on the avatar with realistic perspective, distance scaling, and body mesh occlusion.
- Placing a linked pattern piece onto a mirrored arrangement point automatically places its twin piece symmetrically in one step.
Calmer 2D Sewing Lines
- Seam lines now adapt dynamically across three attention levels: quiet badges and outlines when idle, single link lines when connected, and full detail when actively selected or hovered.
Mouse Transform Frame & Multi-Selection
- Selecting patterns, points, edges, or internal paths displays an interactive transform frame with corner scaling handles, rotation knob, and free translation.
- Includes angle (15°) and scale (10%) snapping with Shift, pivot repositioning with Alt, box and lasso selection modes, and live preflight ghosts showing transform safety.
Body-Checked Arrangement Placement
- 3D arrangement placement includes body-checked wrapping with real-time preview on hover, configurable wrap/flat modes, clearance distance adjustments, and conflict guards against duplicate extension installs.
Settled Cloth Shaping & Safe Keep
- Direct brush shaping on settled cloth drapes with safe Keep mesh generation and clearer user guidance for invalid states.
Native Interface & Theme Consistency
- Minimal workspace metrics, padding, outlines, and iconography align closely with native Blender layouts and active UI themes.
Performance & Code Cleanup
- Removed legacy unreachable code paths across the editor and math modules for a lighter package and smoother drafting experience.
Installation: Install devil_designer-0.12.0.zip via Preferences > Add-ons > Install from Disk... in Blender 5.2+. Verify your download against SHA256SUMS.txt.

Devil Designer 0.10.0 - Elliptical Arrangement, Simulation States & Sewing Preview
Arrangement and simulation
- Arrangement volumes are now elliptical and mesh-only: pieces wrap the body's real cross-section at each row's height.
- Per-piece simulation states: Freeze, Deactivate, Strengthen (right-click a piece, Simulation).
- Pre-sim sewing preview: see every actual seam pairing, direction arrows and mismatch warnings in 2D and 3D before you Simulate.
Known issue: a newly created seam may start in the wrong direction - if a seam pulls wrong, select it and press B (Reverse). A fix is planned.
Devil Designer 0.9.0 - Linked Editing, Layering & Fit Tools
Linked pattern editing
- Explicit linked twins mirror point, handle, topology and internal-path edits in both directions. Apply or remove linked editing for existing pieces; layout and avatar arrangement remain independent.
- Links survive undo/redo, save/reopen and library refits. Cloning and sewing remain explicit actions, never automatic. Included from PR #19.
Layer garments with Wear over
- Kept garments can collide with the next simulated garment. Wear over selects which kept layers participate; the body and other scene colliders remain included. Included from PR #20.
- Use High simulation quality for layering. The controlled shirt/jacket penetration gate uses High and a 2 mm tolerance; Standard measured 2.63 mm and exceeded that gate. This is a known limit, not a collision guarantee for arbitrary clothing or initial intersections. Layered-simulation performance remains a separate follow-up.
Fit map and optional seam Shrink
- F toggles the display-only fit map for inspecting compression and stretch; Home fits the 2D design. The map is not a pressure or fit guarantee.
- Seam Shrink offers opt-in 0/10/20/30 settings with persistence and undo/redo. Calibration is based on Cotton fixtures, not universal fabric or garment accuracy. Included together from PR #21.
- Nonzero Shrink uses 1 mm self-collision for that garment and can change folds and drape away from the seam. All-zero garments retain their original behavior. Local contraction calibration uses a same-physics diagnostic reference, not the normal 3 mm zero garment.
Faster arrangement-point display
- Cached arrangement geometry/GPU batches and GPU projection remove the measured H-overlay bottleneck: the representative scene improved from about 39 FPS to the 144-FPS ceiling with points enabled.
- Display-only fix: arrangement/placement math, H semantics, colors, sizes and picking are unchanged. Included from PR #22; full measurements and limitations are recorded in ARRANGEMENT_DISPLAY_PERFORMANCE.md.

Devil Designer 0.8.0 - Cut Tools & Live Avatar Arrangement
Cut patterns without leaving the canvas
- Cut and Cut & Sew sit beside Dart under Internal; the dock stays at eight tools. Shortcut: N. Cut & Sew is the default.
- Draw multi-point cuts with snapping and Shift axis locking. Enter or double-click finishes; Escape cancels. Outside-to-outside lines cut only inside the pattern.
- Exactly two outline crossings are required. Invalid cuts leave the design unchanged and explain why.
- Keep fabric, mesh density, fixed pattern-space UVs, existing outer-edge sewing and arranged placement. Cut & Sew adds a removable seam. Undo and redo cover the complete operation.
Live panels and optional avatar arrangement
- Closed patterns immediately create flat 3D panels that follow committed outline edits and 2D moves.
- Avatar-owned bounding volumes and editable arrangement points support click-to-wrap placement, tangent-flat arrangement, spiral wrapping and relative G/R adjustments. H toggles the points with the body guide.
- Reset to 2D layout clears arrangement without changing patterns or UVs. Regular simulation reset preserves arrangement.
- Save/load and garment-library refit preserve point-relative arrangements. Missing points fall back to 2D layout with a status message. Starters use explicit arrangement points.
- Older design versions retain legacy placement. Cloth setup, meshing and sewing-spring algorithms remain protected and regression-tested.
Scope and limitations
Anatomy detection is heuristic, with fallback cylinders for absent sections. Wrapping uses a cylindrical radius at the chosen point height, not fitted body-surface placement; tall pieces can intersect wider neighboring sections. This is an editable starting placement, not automatic fitting or full Marvelous Designer parity.
Verified build

Devil Designer 0.7.0 - Curve Drafting & Multi-Selection Transforms
Devil Designer 0.7.0
Direct Curve Drafting & Curve Editing
- Direct Curve Drawing: With the Polygon tool, a click places a Corner point and click-and-drag creates a Smooth point while pulling collinear handles out live. Includes Shift (15-degree steps) and Ctrl (grid-snap) angle/position constraints.
- Point Types:
- Corner: Sharp angles; incoming and outgoing handles move independently.
- Smooth: Collinear handles maintain aligned tangents with independent lengths.
- Auto: Dynamic tangents automatically computed from neighboring points, updating live as neighbors move.
- Quick-cycle point types of all selected points with shortcut C or select directly from right-click contextual menu. Status bar indicates selected point type(s).
- Edge Bending: Drag the middle of any straight or curved edge to bend it directly through the cursor without affecting neighboring edges.
- Double-Click Edge Split: Double-clicking an edge adds a point at the exact click location without altering curve geometry; Q splits at the 0.5 midpoint.
- Selective Handle Visibility: Handles only display for selected points or endpoints of selected edges, eliminating canvas clutter.
- Legacy Migration: Previous designs migrate seamlessly with exact geometric and topological parity (points with handles migrate to Smooth, points without to Corner).
Multi-Selection & Group Transforms
- Multi-piece and multi-point marquee box selection and Shift+click toggling.
- Unified group translation, horizontal/vertical flipping, and 90-degree clockwise/counter-clockwise rotation preserving internal shapes and seam relationships.
Validation & Quality
- All test suites passing, including headless unit tests, regression tests, and in-engine Blender 5.2.3 LTS GUI suites.
- Validated extension package against Blender add-on standards.
