Release list
v0.2.1-beta
A small update to Liberty Pro Max 0.2 with fixes.
Fixed
- The radar is round again. The map is clipped to its circle and the health and armour arcs are back. Before, the map was a square outdoors and half discs filled the radar indoors. Cause: the Metal renderer read the back buffer's alpha, which GTA IV masks its radar with, as always 1.
New
- Saves follow you between the Mac and the iPad through iCloud Drive. The iPad app keeps a copy of every save in its iCloud folder (Liberty Pro Max in iCloud Drive), and the Mac uses the same folder. Each device takes the newer saves when the game starts and sends its own while it runs and when it quits. No cable, and no Mac nearby needed.
- Clashes: in each slot the newer save wins, and the one it replaces, on either side, is kept in that folder's
Backups. - Signing:
install-ios.shturns iCloud on for the app; Xcode then needs your Apple ID signed in.
- Clashes: in each slot the newer save wins, and the one it replaces, on either side, is kept in that folder's
- Apple TV saves go through the Mac: it copies them to and from the Apple TV at start and quit, over the cable or the network, when Xcode is installed.
- The launcher's Saves synced option turns both off.
Install
- Mac, no Terminal: download Liberty.Pro.Max.Builder.zip below, open the Builder (the first time: right-click it, Open), drop your game folder on it, press Build. It now builds the version above.
- Terminal:
git pulland run./install.shagain; for the iPad,./install-ios.sh TEAM_IDagain (for iCloud).
No game data or code is included; see the README.
v0.2.0-beta
Second beta of Liberty Pro Max: Grand Theft Auto IV (PC 1.0.8.0) statically recompiled for Apple silicon, now on iPad and, experimentally, Apple TV.
No game data or code is included. Build it from your own copy:
- Mac, no Terminal: download Liberty.Pro.Max.Builder.zip below, open the Builder (the first time: right-click it, Open: it is not notarized yet), drop your game folder on it and press Build. It needs only Apple's Command Line Tools (it offers to install them) and also imports the Radio Restoration mod for the original 2008 radio.
- Mac, Terminal:
./install.sh "/path/to/Grand Theft Auto IV"; then./install-ios.sh TEAM_IDfor an iPad or./install-ios.sh --tv TEAM_IDfor an Apple TV. See the README.
New
- Liberty Pro Max Builder: a Mac app that builds the game from your GTAIV.exe without the Terminal or Homebrew: everything that is not the game's code comes with it, and only the code translated from your own copy is compiled, with Apple's compiler (about 5 minutes on an M3 Pro).
- iPad: the game on M-series iPads, with a settings screen (resolution, anti-aliasing, frame limit, shadows, reflections, field of view, all fixes) and the game's own icon. 60 fps indoors, 45–60 outdoors at 1792×1344 on an iPad Air (M4). One command builds, signs, installs and copies the game over the cable.
- Apple TV 4K (experimental): the same game built for tvOS, 60 fps at 1080p with SMAA. The A15 cannot sample DXT textures, so they are decoded on upload; keep the game's texture quality at its default to stay inside the 2.1 GB an app gets.
- Niko takes full damage. The game gives the player a third of a gun's damage and two thirds of melee and explosions; now he takes what anyone else does. A save's health over 200 (a trainer's) loads as 200. Both are switches in the launcher.
- Memory: draw-data buffers no longer stay at the size of the largest texture-loading frame; GPU memory is shown in the FPS report.
- Mac launcher: long notes wrap and the General tab fits all its rows.
- Fewer compile stutters: shader pipelines are built ahead on one background queue.
Known limits
- Linux and the Steam Deck are planned.
- iPad: no touch controls (a controller or a keyboard). Apple TV: no settings screen and no icon yet.
- No multiplayer.
- Only
GTAIV.exe1.0.8.0 is supported (the Steam Complete Edition can be downgraded with GTA Downgraders).
Built on x86recomp (this port's branch: Awis13/x86recomp@liberty), with fixes following FusionFix and ZolikaPatch.

v0.1.0-beta
First public beta of Liberty Pro Max: Grand Theft Auto IV (PC 1.0.8.0) statically recompiled for Apple silicon Macs.
No game data or code is included. Build it from your own copy with ./install.sh "/path/to/Grand Theft Auto IV", as described in the README.
What works
- Native on Apple silicon: the game's x86 code is recompiled to C++ and built for ARM; no Wine, no emulation.
- Own Metal renderer: threaded encoding, geometry read in place, several frames in flight. About 125 fps indoors and 60–100 fps outdoors at 3440×1440, maximum settings, on an M3 Pro.
- Anti-aliasing: TAA (default, sharpened), SMAA, MetalFX temporal, and SMAA + MetalFX spatial upscaling.
- Mac app: a launcher with all options, full screen as a macOS Space, Game Mode, any resolution including ultrawide, field of view.
- About 100 fixes from FusionFix and ZolikaPatch, each a switch in the launcher: high frame rate physics, timers and cameras, lights, mirrors, water.
- Extras: the original 2008 radio songs (with the Radio Restoration mod), stun punch and executions on anyone, fast loading.
Known limits
- macOS only; Linux, Steam Deck, iPad and Apple TV are planned.
- No multiplayer.
