Chamber of Secrets 1.0.2
hpcos.exestarts on its own. Double-click it, use a shortcut, Quiver or the Barthes Launcher: the separatehpcos_launcher.exeis gone (delete it from an older install if you like). Every start writeshpcos_run.logbeside the exe, with the crash report if the game crashes; send it with a problem report.- A new icon: volume II from the Barthes Launcher's shelf, drawn for the project (no game artwork).
- Readme fixes: the Barthes Launcher download, and the settings and logs as they really are.
With thanks, as ever, to MiddleDucky.
Installing
The easiest way is the Barthes Launcher: it installs the build for your disc, unpacks and checks the disc, and keeps the port up to date.
By hand: download the zip for your disc (USA for the North American disc, PAL for the European one) and unzip it into a folder of its own. Make a game folder beside hpcos.exe holding your disc's extracted files (game\default.xbe; the Barthes Launcher or extract-xiso unpacks an .iso), then start hpcos.exe. Updating: unzip the new release over the old one; your hpcos.toml, saves\ and shadercache\ stay.
You need your own copy of the game. Nothing from the game is included.
Chamber of Secrets 1.0.1
- The game's Xbox disk images now live beside it, in
saves\xbox, instead of a folder shared by every port
(%LOCALAPPDATA%\xboxrecomp). Each port keeps its own, the folder stays portable, and a game started from a
packaged (MSIX) app no longer quits at boot because it can't open them. Your saves were already beside the game
and stay where they are. The first start after updating copies the game's file cache over from the old folder, so
it stays quick; on a brand-new install the first start builds that cache from the disc and can take a little longer.

Chamber of Secrets 1.0
This is the first Barthes Recompiled release of the port. Everything that makes the game run on the PC is
MiddleDucky's work (HP-COS-Xbox-Recomp), and this release
carries all of their v0.2.0 work, open Hogwarts grounds and broom landing included. Thank you, MiddleDucky, so very
much, for bringing this game to the PC and for sharing it so generously.
New
- Settings inside the game. "Settings" in the title menu and the pause menu opens Gameplay, Graphics and Controls
pages drawn in the game's own font, with the game's own A and B button gems in the hint. They change the same
settings as F10 and save tohpcos.toml. - Button Mapping (Settings > Controls): press the action, then the controller button for it.
- Both discs. The European (PAL) disc now works as well as the North American one. Each disc has its own
download; the Barthes Launcher picks the right one for your disc. (The note under v0.2.0 that only the NTSC-U
release works is about that version.) - Cutscene fast-forward: hold Start or Back to run a cutscene to its end quickly (on by default).
- Start-up logos skipped (on by default; F10 > Gameplay or Settings > Gameplay to turn it off).
- Controller in background (Settings > Controls, F10, launcher): turn it off and the game ignores the controller
while another window has the focus.
Fixes
- The settings pages fit a 4:3 screen: label and value columns, and the "press a button" prompt in the hint's place.
Known issues
- Button prompts are always Xbox's; PlayStation and Switch pads work through Steam Input or DS4Windows.
- Tom Riddle's eyes and mouth in the final cutscene, as in v0.2.0.
