EchoPod 0.2.0
EchoPod 0.2.0, replacement firmware for the Snowsky (FiiO) Echo Mini 8 GB.
Use it at your own risk. EchoPod is early, has been tested on one player, and comes with no warranty. Read the known issues and make sure you could recover the player through maskrom before you install.
New
- Audiobooks and podcasts. Put books in an
Audiobooksfolder and shows in aPodcastsfolder at the top of the card. Home gets an Audiobooks and a Podcasts shelf; each book and episode remembers where it stopped, books play in order even with shuffle on, and holding vol± jumps 30 s forward or 15 s back. They stay out of Cover Flow, Albums, Artists, Genres, Songs and shuffle. - USB DAC mode. Settings → USB mode → DAC makes the player a USB sound card (16 or 24-bit up to 96 kHz) with its own remembered volume.
- echo-sync builds the library and covers on a computer, straight onto the card, so the player starts without scanning. One file below for Windows, macOS (Apple silicon) or Linux, nothing to install; 1,563 tracks take about 2 minutes. See "Build the library on a computer" in the user guide.
Faster
- USB storage reads at about 3.9 MB/s instead of 1.3 MB/s.
- Library rebuilds on the player: a 1,563-track, 144-album card takes about 1 minute 45 seconds, covers included.
Fixed
- Brightness levels, the Output setting's explanation, a repeated beat while Favorites opens, sound after USB, the battery level while charging, and an unneeded rescan of exFAT cards after echo-sync.
When you update
- The library format changed: the player rebuilds its library once after the update. Use the echo-sync files from this release; older ones write the old format.
- Each rebuild saves its timings to
/.echo/rescan_times.binon the card. If a rebuild seems slow, attach that file to your report.

Install
Follow the user guide. Already on EchoPod: copy HIFIEC90.IMG to the top level of the player's internal storage (ECHO MINI), eject both drives and unplug; the player installs it. From FiiO firmware 3.7.0 or 3.9.0: copy HIFIEC90.IMG to the top level of the player's internal storage, eject, unplug, take the microSD card out and restart. Installing from Windows is the tested route.
Check the download first: the SHA-256 of HIFIEC90.IMG must match SHA256SUMS.txt.
The 512 MB Echo Mini is not supported.
Notes
- This build uses pid.codes' shared test USB IDs (
1209:0001for storage,1209:0002for DAC mode) until an assigned product ID is available. - echo-sync for macOS and Linux hasn't been run on a real card yet; reports are welcome.
