SmoothBoost v2.2.0 Release Notes & Changelog

Overview

SmoothBoost 2.2.0 fixes text readability bugs on glassmorphic web pages, removes layout thrashing during backdrop blur detection, safeguards live audio/video calls, and introduces a dedicated multi-device installation guide.

What's Changed

Bug Fixes & Rendering Safeguards

  • Fixed washed-out text on glassmorphic sites: When backdrop-filter optimizations stripped blur layers on sites like Taplink and Linktree, translucent white card containers were previously forced to an opaque white background (rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.92)). This made white text and icons completely unreadable. Added perceived luminance checks in the blur inspection engine to preserve contrast on light-on-light glass cards.
  • Eliminated synchronous DOM reflow lag: Replaced full-tree document.querySelectorAll('*') queries in scanBackdropBlurTargets with stylesheet rule analysis and targeted glass selector sets, capped at 150 candidate nodes per scan. This stops layout thrashing on heavy pages.
  • Protected background and ambient canvases: Canvases using position: fixed, position: sticky, or full viewport bounds (e.g., falling rain, ambient particles, interactive backgrounds) are no longer marked as offscreen or paused while scrolling.
  • Protected WebRTC and live video calls: Added source detection for video.srcObject and platform checks for Google Meet, Discord, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams so active webcams and screen shares are never paused as background media.
  • Eliminated image layout loops: Replaced synchronous getBoundingClientRect() loops on initial page images with deferred intersection scanning, preventing micro-stutters during page load.
  • Preserved canvas and drag event controls: Interactive targets (<canvas>, draggable items, and contenteditable inputs) are now explicitly exempted before applying passive touch and wheel event listener wrappers.

UI & Mobile Improvements

  • Decramped mobile header: Replaced overflowing header button text with responsive labels (Get Extension on desktop, Install on mobile) and hid the secondary GitHub button on viewports $\le 768\text{px}$.
  • Standardized touch targets: Header buttons and the mobile navigation drawer toggle now share a consistent 38px height and click target.
  • New device installation tutorial: Added tutorial.html with platform-specific instructions for:
    • Titanium Browser (Android)
    • Chrome, Helium, Brave, Edge, and Opera (Desktop)
    • Firefox Desktop (Temporary add-on loading)
    • Firefox for Android (Custom add-on collection setup)
    • Kiwi Browser (Android)

Tests & Internal Build

  • Added automated test suites for color luminance contrast safety and WebRTC stream isolation (tests/content-settings.test.js).
  • All 61 automated tests are passing across Chromium MV3 and Gecko targets.
  • Rebuilt all distribution packages under dist/.
