SmoothBoost v2.2.0
SmoothBoost v2.2.0 Release Notes & Changelog
Overview
SmoothBoost 2.2.0 fixes text readability bugs on glassmorphic web pages, removes layout thrashing during backdrop blur detection, safeguards live audio/video calls, and introduces a dedicated multi-device installation guide.
What's Changed
Bug Fixes & Rendering Safeguards
- Fixed washed-out text on glassmorphic sites: When backdrop-filter optimizations stripped blur layers on sites like Taplink and Linktree, translucent white card containers were previously forced to an opaque white background (
rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.92)). This made white text and icons completely unreadable. Added perceived luminance checks in the blur inspection engine to preserve contrast on light-on-light glass cards. - Eliminated synchronous DOM reflow lag: Replaced full-tree
document.querySelectorAll('*')queries inscanBackdropBlurTargetswith stylesheet rule analysis and targeted glass selector sets, capped at 150 candidate nodes per scan. This stops layout thrashing on heavy pages. - Protected background and ambient canvases: Canvases using
position: fixed, position: sticky, or full viewport bounds (e.g., falling rain, ambient particles, interactive backgrounds) are no longer marked as offscreen or paused while scrolling. - Protected WebRTC and live video calls: Added source detection for
video.srcObjectand platform checks for Google Meet, Discord, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams so active webcams and screen shares are never paused as background media. - Eliminated image layout loops: Replaced synchronous
getBoundingClientRect()loops on initial page images with deferred intersection scanning, preventing micro-stutters during page load. - Preserved canvas and drag event controls: Interactive targets (
<canvas>, draggable items, andcontenteditableinputs) are now explicitly exempted before applying passive touch and wheel event listener wrappers.
UI & Mobile Improvements
-
Decramped mobile header: Replaced overflowing header button text with responsive labels (
Get Extensionon desktop,Installon mobile) and hid the secondary GitHub button on viewports$\le 768\text{px}$ . - Standardized touch targets: Header buttons and the mobile navigation drawer toggle now share a consistent 38px height and click target.
-
New device installation tutorial: Added
tutorial.htmlwith platform-specific instructions for:- Titanium Browser (Android)
- Chrome, Helium, Brave, Edge, and Opera (Desktop)
- Firefox Desktop (Temporary add-on loading)
- Firefox for Android (Custom add-on collection setup)
- Kiwi Browser (Android)
Tests & Internal Build
- Added automated test suites for color luminance contrast safety and WebRTC stream isolation (
tests/content-settings.test.js). - All 61 automated tests are passing across Chromium MV3 and Gecko targets.
- Rebuilt all distribution packages under
dist/.

v2.0.0
SmoothBoost v2.0.0 — Speed & Architecture Overhaul 🚀
SmoothBoost v2.0.0 is an intelligent web performance optimizer that eliminates frame drops, unbloats heavy pages, and accelerates scrolling.
⚡ What's New in v2.0.0
- Smart Auto Heuristics: Automatically inspects page archetypes (media-heavy, canvas/WebGL, text, animated apps) during idle time and applies the safest optimizations without breaking web apps like Google Docs, Figma, or Maps.
- Hardware-Composited Scrolling: Enforces passive wheel/touch listeners and GPU layer hints for stutter-free scrolling, with built-in exceptions for interactive maps and canvas controls.
- Offscreen Canvas & Animation Throttling: Pauses hidden canvas rendering and offscreen CSS keyframe animations, dramatically lowering CPU and GPU load on multi-tab browsing.
- Native Tab Memory Saver: Discards background tabs after 30 minutes of inactivity using native browser tab discarding, safely skipping pinned tabs, active audio, and forms with user input.
- Universal Settings & Cross-Site Memory: Your chosen mode (Smart Auto, Balanced, Maximum, or Custom) applies seamlessly across all websites.
- One-Click Site Recovery ("Site looks broken"): Instantly disables SmoothBoost on the offending domain, clears its cache, and reloads the page.
- Clean Single-Screen UI: Redesigned modern, unbloated interface with crisp vector SVG icons and zero emojis.
- Reliable Update Checker: Multi-tier update verification with rate-limit fallback and one-click in-app update banner.

SmoothBoost v2
SmoothBoost v2.0.0 — Major Architecture & Speed Release 🚀
SmoothBoost v2.0.0 is a complete overhaul engineered for blazing-fast, unbloated, and hardware-accelerated web browsing. It introduces Smart Auto heuristics, universal cross-site profile memory, compositor-threaded passive scrolling, offscreen canvas throttling, native tab RAM saving, and a clean single-screen UI.
What's New in v2.0.0
🧠 Smart Auto Mode & Page Classifier
- Automatically categorizes websites in
requestIdleCallback(interactive-canvas,media-stream,infinite-feed,standard) without taxing the main thread. - Automatically bypasses canvas throttling on web apps and editors (Figma, Google Docs, Canva, Google Maps, Photopea, Desmos) so tools always stay 100% responsive.
- Bounded 500-entry LRU archetype cache with a 7-day TTL.
🌐 Cross-Site Profile & Settings Memory
- Whichever profile you choose (Auto, Turbo, Balanced, or Custom) is now remembered globally across all tabs and websites.
- Custom tuning toggles (passive scrolling, offscreen canvas throttling, blur bypass) persist from site to site.
- Independent per-site exceptions: turning SmoothBoost off for one domain (
#site-toggleor "Site looks broken") isolates that site withenabled: falsewhile keeping your chosen mode running everywhere else.
⚡ Hardware-Composited Scrolling (60 / 120 FPS)
- Enforces
{ passive: true }on non-map wheel and touch listeners, offloading scroll events from the JavaScript engine to the GPU/browser compositor thread. - Preserves map zooming and panning: interactive map containers (
.leaflet-container,.mapboxgl-map, Google Maps) retainpreventDefault()functionality.
🎨 Offscreen Canvas Rendering Throttling
- Skips expensive 2D and WebGL render calls on canvas elements outside the viewport.
- Protects detached memory buffer canvases (
canvas.isConnected === false), ensuring tools and game engines execute offscreen buffers without skipping.
💾 Native Tab Memory Saver
- Service worker alarm leverages
chrome.tabs.discard()to safely reclaim system memory from tabs inactive for 30+ minutes. - Intelligently ignores active tabs, pinned tabs, and tabs playing audio.
🔤 CSSOM Font-Display Optimization
- Patches web fonts to
font-display: swapto prevent Flash of Invisible Text (FOIT) without layout shift.
🔔 Instant Update Pop-Up & Notifications
- Detects new GitHub releases and pops up an update banner on the main screen with a direct one-click ZIP download link.
- Displays an update notification dot on the Help & Updates tab.
💎 Modern Single-Screen UI
- Dark glass aesthetic with 100% vector SVG icons (zero emojis).
- Live measured telemetry counters (actual passive listeners intercepted, offscreen videos paused, blur panels bypassed, canvas draws skipped).
- One-click "Site looks broken" recovery button that disables SmoothBoost on the offending domain, clears its archetype cache, and refreshes the tab.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed promo banner dismiss button staying visible due to CSS
display: flexoverriding[hidden]. - Fixed
RE:ANIME HEROstatus label appearing on non-Re:Anime sites (like Roblox). - Fixed mode settings resetting when moving between different sites.
