Release list
Sub-X 1.7: connection and trainer fixes
Install: download Sub-X.apk on your Android phone, open it and install it over your current Sub-X (your data stays). Android 7 or newer. If Play Protect warns about an unrecognised app, tap More details → Install anyway.
New since 1.6
- Sturdier smart-cube connecting: failed tries now let go of the cube, old links are cleared first, and there are more patient retries. Not yet confirmed on a real cube.
- Trainers fit what you're practising: with a smart cube, setups register without a fully solved cube. In the F2L trainer, for example, the top can be anything. Turning any face after a try loads the next case.
- Blind F2L: its own page, with time to inspect, one or two pairs, and All slots, Right hand, Left hand or Back.
- TPS trainer: repeat a short sequence as fast as you can and see your turns per second.
- Yiheng Wang page: other ways to do a few OLL and PLL cases.
- Faster updates: opening the app now asks for the newest version, and coming back to it checks for one.
These all arrive through the website, so 1.6 gets them too. This release also brings the copy of Sub-X stored in the app up to date.
As before, the app loads from https://bluex7710.github.io/sub-x/, so other updates arrive by themselves. Signed with a test key: meant for installing yourself, not the Play Store.
Sub-X 1.6: sync with Google
Install: download Sub-X.apk on your Android phone, open it and install it over your current Sub-X (your data stays). Android 7 or newer. If Play Protect warns about an unrecognised app, tap More details → Install anyway.
New in this release
- Sync with Google: in Timer → Backup, tap Sign in with Google. Your times, sessions, learning progress and trainer times then stay the same on your phone and on the website (sign in there with the same Google account). Solves you delete stay deleted everywhere. Your data is kept in a database only your account can read.
- This app version adds Google's own sign-in, which the website's sign-in page can't do inside an app.
Also new (through the website, so older app versions get these too): the Progress page in Learn, "You could have saved" after smart-cube solves, and sturdier smart-cube connecting.
As before, the app loads from https://bluex7710.github.io/sub-x/, so other updates arrive by themselves. Signed with a test key: meant for installing yourself, not the Play Store.
Sub-X 1.5: Stackmat, new events, achievements
Install: download Sub-X.apk on your Android phone, open it and install it over your current Sub-X (your data stays). Android 7 or newer. If Play Protect warns about an unrecognised app, tap More details → Install anyway.
New in this release
- Stackmat timers: plug a Gen 3 or Gen 4 Stackmat into the microphone jack and tap Connect Stackmat. This app version adds the microphone permission it needs. The microphone is only used to read the timer's signal: nothing is recorded or sent.
- New events: 6×6, 7×7, 3×3 Blindfolded, Megaminx, Square-1 and Clock.
- Voice calls at 8 and 12 seconds of inspection (or beeps, where the phone can't speak).
- Achievements and streaks, comp sim rounds, and Send to another device to move all your times with one link.
- A short welcome tour for new cubers.
Sub-X 1.4 keeps working: everything except the Stackmat also reaches it through the website. As before, the app loads from https://bluex7710.github.io/sub-x/, so other updates arrive by themselves. Signed with a test key: meant for installing yourself, not the Play Store.
Sub-X 1.4: offline, F2L practice, kept Learn times
Sub-X 1.4 is needed from now on: older versions of the app no longer give working scrambles.
Install: download Sub-X.apk on your Android phone, open it and install it over your current Sub-X (your data stays). Android 7 or newer. If Play Protect warns about an unrecognised app, tap More details → Install anyway.
New in this release
- Works offline: after opening it once with internet, the app keeps working with no connection, fonts and smart-cube support included.
- F2L practice scrambles: Timer → Scramble → F2L: right hand, left hand or both hands. The cross stays solved, and the pairs can be solved with only R/U, L/U or R/L/U, without turning the cube. On a smart cube the timer stops when F2L is done.
- Learn times are kept: every trainer keeps your timed tries, and drills keep each case's times, shown on its card in Learn.
As before, the app loads from https://bluex7710.github.io/sub-x/, so other updates arrive by themselves. Signed with a test key: meant for installing yourself, not the Play Store.
Sub-X 1.3: smart cubes in the app
Android app with smart cube support (GAN Gen2/3/4 and MoYu AI 2023 over Bluetooth).
Install: download Sub-X.apk on your Android phone, open it and install it over your current Sub-X (your data stays). Android 7 or newer. If Play Protect warns about an unrecognised app, tap More details → Install anyway.
Using a smart cube: Timer tab → Smart cube → Connect smart cube, allow Nearby devices when Android asks, wake the cube by turning a face, and tap it in the list. No MAC address needed.
As before, the app loads from https://bluex7710.github.io/sub-x/, so all other updates arrive by themselves. Signed with a test key: meant for installing yourself, not the Play Store.
Sub-X 1.2
Android app for the Sub-X cube timer.
Install: download Sub-X.apk on your Android phone, open it and allow the install (Android 7 or newer). If Play Protect warns that the app is unrecognised, tap More details → Install anyway.
The app loads from https://bluex7710.github.io/sub-x/, so it updates itself when the site changes, and it works offline after the first launch. This build is signed with a test key, so it's meant for installing yourself rather than the Play Store.
