@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Nov 05:18

What's new

Group laughs

  • Turn on Detection → Group laughs. When you and your friends (or the game) crack up at the same time, it triggers
sooner and at a lower level than one person laughing.
  • The popup says Group laugh and shows who was laughing, like "You + Voice Chat".
  • It needs your mic and at least one PC audio source, like Voice Chat, turned on.

"Clip that" and hype phrases

  • Turn on Clipping → Clip with hype phrases, then say "clip that" to save a clip straight away.
  • Shout "no way", "oh my god" or "let's go" and it counts as a moment, just like a laugh. The popup shows
    what you said.
  • Hype phrases only count when you say them on their own, so "no wait, come back" doesn't set it off.
  • Like "don't clip", it all runs offline on your PC. Nothing you say leaves it.

Clip with a controller or wheel

  • On the Clipping page, click Clip button and press any button on an Xbox or PlayStation controller, a racing
    wheel or a button box.
  • Pressing it saves the clip while a popup is up, or any time if you pick Works → Any time.
  • It works while the game is in front, with nothing extra to install.

Improvements

  • The popup drops "to clip" when a long source name wouldn't fit.
  • The website's feature list covers the new features.

Your settings carry over, and the new options are off until you turn them on.

What's new

Say "don't clip"

  • Turn on Clipping → Cancel with your voice, then while a popup is up just say "don't clip" (or "do not clip",
or "cancel clip") to call it off, even in the middle of an auto-save countdown.
  • Speech recognition runs offline on your PC. It only listens for those words, only on your mic, and only while a
popup is showing. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

"Not funny" button

  • Every popup now has a 👎 button. Press it and the clip is skipped, and the trigger level for that sound goes up a
little, so the same kind of noise is less likely to set it off again.
  • Skipped moments show up in History as "Not funny". You can set the level back on the Detection page any time.

Pause hotkey

  • Pick a key on General → Pause hotkey to pause and resume listening from inside a game. A small popup confirms
    which way it went.

History stats and Play

  • The History page now shows your clips saved, this week's count, your most clipped game and your best laugh score.
  • Each saved clip has a Play button that opens it in your video player, next to Show for its folder.

Website

  • Laugh Clipper has a homepage at bryson-he.github.io/laugh-clipper, to share with friends.

Improvements

  • The popup is a little wider so long game and source names fit, and gets a new compact style for quick messages
    (cancelled, paused, resumed).
  • Hotkeys read more naturally everywhere, like Ctrl + Alt + P instead of "Ctrl + ALT + P".
  • Tidier code under the hood: windows (settings, setup guide, calibration, What's new) are opened and closed the same
way, and the hotkeys are registered together.
  • Fresh screenshots in the README.

Your settings carry over, and the new options are off until you turn them on.

What's new

Longer clips for longer laughs

  • If you've set up more than one clip length in Medal (like 30 s, 60 s and 120 s), turn on Clipping → Pick the clip
    length to fit the moment
    .
  • Short laughs use your normal clip hotkey. Each time the laughing goes on longer than Use a longer clip after
    laughing for
(8 s to start with, you can change it), it moves up to Medal's next clip length, so the start of a
    big moment isn't cut off.
  • The "Clip saved" popup and the History page show which length was used.
  • With only one clip length in Medal, these options are greyed out and tell you how to add more.
  • The Clipping page also warns you if a moment can last longer than the clip Medal saves.

What's new

  • After an update, this window shows you what changed. Open it again any time from General → What's New.

Fixes

  • Some microphones couldn't be used at all, including Elgato XLR Dock mics and many headset and USB mics. They'd
stop straight away with an unexplained error. They now work.

Your settings carry over, and the new options are off until you turn them on.

What's new

Smoother, easier-to-read meters

  • The meters now follow the sound in real time: loudness updates 20 times a second instead of 4, and every bar
    glides instead of jumping.
  • A thin peak marker holds your highest recent score for a couple of seconds, so you can see where your laughs
land and set the trigger level just below it.

Calibrate for your game (optional)

  • Detection → Calibrate… listens to your game for about a minute, then to you laughing, and suggests a trigger
level that sits between the two: high enough to ignore the game's own sounds, low enough to catch your laughs.
  • It shows the result on one bar, warns you if your laughs don't stand out from the game (with what to try
instead), and gives other sounds the game makes a lot of, like cheering, their own level.
  • Nothing changes until you click Apply, and you can still tune everything by hand.

Fixes

  • Disabled blue buttons now look disabled.
  • Fixed a test that occasionally failed for no reason, so the automatic checks on GitHub stay reliable.

Your settings carry over.

Fixes

  • No more burst of little windows the first time you open Laugh Clipper's settings from the tray. Dozens of the
window's own labels were briefly popping up as separate windows while it was being built. This had been
    there since the first version.

Also in this release: failing tests now show up on GitHub's checks page, to help catch problems before a release.

What's new

Bookmark your recordings

  • Recording a whole session in Medal? Turn on Clipping → While Medal is recording → Add a bookmark instead of a
    clip
. While Medal is recording, a laugh then drops a bookmark into the recording instead of saving a separate
    clip.
  • It notices recordings however you start them, and shows a red Recording badge on the Clipping page.
  • The popup says "Medal is recording", its button becomes Mark, and it finishes with Bookmarked. Bookmarks
    show up in History too.

Your hotkeys, read straight from Medal

  • Laugh Clipper now reads your clip and bookmark hotkeys from Medal's settings, so you don't have to type them in.
  • The Clipping page tells you whether your clip hotkey matches Medal's. If Medal has several clip lengths you can
pick one from a menu; if it has one, it's a single button.
  • If they can't be read, just click the key and press it. The bookmark hotkey can be set the same way.
  • The setup guide fills both in for you, and warns if the clip hotkey is actually Medal's bookmark key.

Notification sound

  • An optional sound when the popup appears, handy in exclusive-fullscreen games where the popup can't show.
  • Choose from Soft chime, Bubble pop, Marimba or Bright bell, set the volume, and pick which
output it plays on (with Wave Link, choose a channel you can hear, like Game).
  • Find it under Notification → Sound. It's off until you turn it on.

Fixes

  • The meters looked empty. They only showed the laugh score, which stays near zero for normal noise. Each meter
now also shows how loud the sound is in grey, with the score on top in blue, turning green once it would trigger.
  • The meters stopped while you were setting things up with "Only listen while playing" on, as soon as you
clicked another monitor. Laugh Clipper now keeps listening whenever its settings window or setup guide is open.

Your settings carry over, and the new options are off until you turn them on.

What's new

Know when a clip really saved

  • After the hotkey, the popup shows Saving clip while Laugh Clipper checks Medal's clips folder, then
Clip saved · Rocket League (or whichever game) once the clip is really there.
  • If Medal didn't make a clip, for example because the hotkey doesn't match, it says Clip didn't save
    instead of pretending.
  • Medal's clips folder is found automatically. You can pick a different one on the Clipping page, or turn
    the check off there.

Clip history

  • A new History page lists every clip: what was heard, where, in which game, the score, and whether it
saved. Click Show to jump to the file in Explorer.

Tune each sound separately

  • Each sound on the Detection page now has an arrow that opens its own options:
    • Its own trigger level, for sounds like shouting that score differently from laughter.
    • Which audio it listens to. For example, listen for shouting only on your mic and voice chat, so
explosions in the game don't set it off.

Setup guide

  • New installs get a short setup guide: match Medal's hotkey, pick your audio, and laugh for a few seconds to
    set the trigger level automatically.
  • Already set up? Try it any time from General → Run Setup Again.

Tray icon shows what it's doing

  • Grey when detection is paused, and an orange dot while it's waiting for a game or Medal isn't running.

Fixes

  • With Only listen while playing on, the meters on the Audio and Detection pages stayed empty. Laugh
Clipper now always listens while its own window is in front, so you can test and tune it without a game
    running.

Your settings carry over, and nothing changes how it works until you use the new options.

What's new

Trigger on more than laughs

  • New Trigger on section on the Detection page: Laughter, Cheering, Shouting, Screaming and Gasp.
Turn on any mix. Laughter stays the only one on until you change it.
  • The popup says what it heard ("Cheering detected", "Saving clip · Still shouting"), with a surprised
face for shouts, screams and gasps.
  • The Audio page's "Hearing:" line shows which sound scored.

Only listen while playing

  • New Games section on the General page. Turn on Only listen while playing and detection pauses
whenever no game is the window in front, so videos and music between games don't set it off.
  • Games are found automatically: anything full-screen counts, and games from Steam, Epic, Xbox, Riot,
EA, Ubisoft and GOG are added to Your games the first time you play them. Add others with
Add Game… (pick a running app or browse for the exe), and remove any you don't want.
  • It keeps listening for 5 seconds after you alt-tab, and resumes instantly when you go back.
  • The sidebar, tray icon tooltip and tray menu show "Waiting for a game" or the game you're playing.

Warns when Medal isn't running

  • If Medal is closed, the popup now says "Medal isn't running, so no clip was saved" instead of
pretending to save it, and no hotkey is sent.
  • The General page shows a warning with an Open Medal button, and the tray shows it too.
  • You can turn the warning off on the Clipping page.

Fixes

  • Subtitles on turned-off settings now dim along with their titles.

Your existing settings carry over. All new options start in a way that keeps the app working exactly
as before until you turn them on.
