Couchtunes 2.16.3: new name, internet radio, smoother TV and easy AppImage updates
Couchtunes 2.16.3: new name, internet radio, smoother TV and easy AppImage updates
Cadence is now Couchtunes. It is the same app with a new name. Your TV keeps its sign-in, because the app ID stays the same.
Couchtunes is an Apple Music-style player for Navidrome and other Subsonic or OpenSubsonic servers, built to be driven from across the room with a TV remote, a game controller or the keyboard. Not affiliated with Apple or Navidrome.
New
- Internet radio. Stations you add in Navidrome show up in a Radios tab in the Library and in a Radio row at the bottom of Listen now. Both stay hidden if you have no stations.
- A colorful full-screen player for radio, with a background in each station's own colors, a LIVE marker, and previous/next to switch stations.
- TV remote colored buttons. Red opens or closes Now Playing, green plays or pauses, yellow goes to the previous song and blue to the next.
- A Shortcuts page on the TV (Settings → Shortcuts) with a picture of the remote.
- Easy AppImage updates. The AppImage includes update information and comes with a
.zsyncfile, so Gear Lever and AppImageUpdate can update it automatically.
Faster on the TV
- Opening the full-screen player is lighter, and play/pause, lyrics and the other animations are much smoother.
- This comes from a cheaper background (a small smoothed picture instead of a strong blur), a lighter shadow for radio, and fewer screen updates while a station plays.
- On computers nothing changes: the blurred background and the slow drift for radio stay as they were.
Also in this version
- Seek step settings (5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds), keyboard shortcuts, and a shortcuts window with keyboard and controller tabs (PlayStation layout when a PlayStation controller is detected).

Cadence 2.16.0 beta 2: a colorful radio player
Cadence 2.16.0 beta 2: a colorful radio player
This is the second pre-release for testing internet radio. If you don't use radio stations in Navidrome, you don't need it. The stable version stays at 2.15.1, and the Homebrew Channel repository still serves that one.
What's new since beta 1
- Colorful full-screen player for radio. Each station now gets its own bright background, made of three blended colors that drift slowly while the station plays. The station tile on the left uses the same colors with a white radio icon. Colors are chosen from the station's name, so a station always looks the same.
- Albums and songs look exactly as before.
Radio in this pre-release (from beta 1)
- A Radios tab in the Library, after Compilations, and a Radio row at the bottom of Listen now. Both stay hidden if your Navidrome has no radio stations.
- While a station plays, the player shows a LIVE marker instead of the seek bar. Shuffle, repeat, favorite and lyrics are hidden, since they don't apply to a live stream.
- Previous and next move between stations. The colored remote buttons, keyboard shortcuts and controller buttons work the same way.
- Stations are not scrobbled to your server, and a station that goes offline shows a message instead of skipping to another one.
What to test
- Add one or more stations in Navidrome's settings. Check that the Radios tab and the Radio row appear, and that every station plays.
- Open the full-screen player on a few stations and check that the background looks smooth. If the slow movement stutters on your TV, please say so.
- Remove all stations and check that the tab and the row disappear.
Known limits
- Stations show a colored radio tile instead of a logo, because Navidrome doesn't provide station images.
- The current song title isn't shown, because the stream doesn't provide it in a form the app can read.
