Textus v1.3.1
What's new
Textus 1.3.1 keeps big folders and long documents quick with plugins on, shortens the tour to eight steps, and reads three more kinds of Markdown written in Typora or on GitHub: [TOC], sub- and superscript, and :emoji: shortcodes.
New
[TOC]on a line of its own shows a table of contents of the document's headings, as in Typora: it follows the headings as you write, and a click jumps to one. Type[TOC]and press Enter to put one in; it's saved as you wrote it.- Subscript and superscript as in Typora and Pandoc:
H~2~Oshows H₂O andx^2^shows x², and each forms as you type its closing~or^. One tilde makes a subscript only right after a letter or digit;~text~elsewhere is still struck through, as on GitHub, and~~text~~always is. Text with a space inside, such as2^10 and 3^4, stays as written. - Emoji shortcodes as on GitHub, such as
:tada:and:rocket:, show as their emoji, as in Typora. The file keeps the shortcode, and putting the caret on one shows it to edit. Code and links are left as they are.
Improved
- The tour is eight short steps instead of seventeen: typing Markdown, the command palette, plugins, themes and skills in Settings › Extensions, connecting an AI, and Textus AI writing and continuing your notes. Tables, formulas, themes, review and the rest are in Help › Video Tutorials.
- On a Mac with a 120 Hz display, typing and animations are drawn at the display's full rate rather than about 60 frames a second.
Fixed
- Typing in a document of a million characters or more keeps up: a key takes about half as long to show, and a pasted or corrected line much less.
- A plugin's list of thousands of items in the sidebar - the Tasks of a big folder - no longer slows typing and switching documents: it draws a page of rows at a time, and isn't drawn again on every keystroke.
- In a folder of thousands of notes, plugins that follow links - Backlinks, Graph and others - no longer freeze the window for seconds while they read it: each link is looked up by name instead of against every file.
- Plugins that list a folder's notes, tags or tasks - Pages, Tags, Tasks, Backlinks and others - keep up with edits when the folder is opened after Textus starts, and follow a switch to another folder.
[[Wikilinks]]and![[embeds]]find notes and pictures anywhere in the folder open in the sidebar, not only beside the document, when there is no Obsidian vault around it.- Files a plugin adds, moves or removes in the open folder show in the sidebar at once, without pressing Refresh.
- A plugin's settings page shows whole in Settings › Extensions, instead of in a small box that cut it off.
- A setting of several lines - a plugin's, or an MCP server's environment - is a box with gently rounded corners, not a stretched pill.
- A preview card of a long list keeps its bullets inside the card instead of drawing them below it.
- The outline lists every heading after a code block that starts inside a list item, such as `2. ```.
- Rows of a matrix in a formula are spaced apart, as in Typora, so rows of fractions no longer touch.
- A plugin with no English strings shows its own language - its name, commands and panels - instead of bare keys such as
namewhen Textus is in a language it doesn't have.
Installers for macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux (x64 and ARM64) are below; the app updates itself.
