v0.89.2 — Rexmaw Deck lighting

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 28 Oct 22:13

🐛 Fixes

  • Rexmaw Deck background lighting — the built-in companions no longer force the golden lighting preset on the Rexmaw Deck scene, so it uses your normal lighting.

Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.89.1 — Group calls answer you once

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 25 Oct 19:32

🐛 Fixes

  • Group calls: one answer per turn. A companion could answer you twice in a row, the second reply a reworded copy of the first, after you spoke to them by name. Each thing you say is now answered once.
  • Group calls: every word heard. The words at the end of what you said are no longer occasionally cut off, and a turn no longer goes unanswered when that happens.

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.89.0 — Stream captions

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 24 Oct 22:32

✨ Features

  • Stream captions. Your companion's words appear on screen as they say them, live-subtitle style, for streams and recordings. Off by default.
    • Full-screen view: tick Stream captions under the manual triggers' Look section. They roll up along the bottom, with a choice of 2 to 4 lines and four text sizes.
    • Desktop mascot: Mascot settings → Stream captions opens a strip that comes with the mascot. Turn on "Move or resize the captions" to drag it anywhere and size it, then turn it off to leave only the words, with clicks passing through.
    • Words appear as they're heard, in step with the voice, whole words at a time in every language, including Japanese and Chinese. Speech cues like [laugh] or <whisper> stay out of the captions (the transcript still shows them), and each reply's line fades a few seconds after it's spoken (Lines stay for, 3 to 15 seconds).
  • Group call turn limit: a new setting for how many times companions may answer each other in a row before the floor comes back to you (default 10).
  • Heartbeat texting: a companion texting you from a heartbeat can now keep a conversation going for up to 20 messages per run, without using up the rest of its turn.

🐛 Fixes

  • Two companions on screen no longer start their idle moves in perfect sync.
  • Japanese: the new setting and a few missing labels are translated, including the voice engine field hints.

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.88.0 — The toy box

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 23 Oct 19:57

✨ Features

  • The toy box. Open it with the gift button in the full-screen view, or from the Toys tab in the mascot's settings window. Drop, throw or hold things out to your companion and they play with them in the 3D room, or right on your desktop while roaming.
    • Treats: donut, strawberry, grape, hot pepper, apple, banana, ice cream, cupcake, noodles, tea, coffee and a water bottle. Each one is eaten its own way: peeled, licked, slurped, sipped or chugged. Some have a twist: a pepper that's hotter than expected, brain freeze, a coffee buzz, or a treat that's gone off.
    • Play: basketball, football, rugby ball and a bubble wand. Put out a hoop, a goal or rugby posts and they take shots at them.
    • Lights: lamps, lanterns, candles, fairy lights, a neon sign, a campfire, a galaxy projector and an aquarium. They dim the room around them.
    • Gadgets: a fan and a hair dryer (their hair blows in the breeze), a smoke machine and a disco ball.
    • Crew items: a Gerald plush, a treasure chest, a message in a bottle and a ship's biscuit.
  • Your companion hears about it in a call. They react to what you give them. When you hand or throw them something, they stop what they're saying to react straight away. Turn off "Keep playing with toys" if you'd rather they only react to you and never go for a toy on their own.
  • A livelier idle. Companions shift their weight, shuffle their feet, settle their arms, fidget with their hands and now and then rest a hand on their hip. All of it is fitted to each model's own body.
  • Tune model (formerly Tune face) adds a full-body view, an arm spread setting per look, and switches for the idle's weight shifts and hand on hip.
  • Music panel: a searchable picker over your whole music library, even when an avatar keeps the companion to its own tracks. Links you paste are now kept in your library by default.

🐛 Fixes

  • The mascot's controls hide reliably when the cursor leaves the window, including after dragging it.
  • "Look at this" requests now always use the screenshot tool.
  • Roaming: the treasure map is smaller, and the sea, the sun and the rain cloud are see-through enough to read the windows under them.

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.87.1 — Music starts the dance

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 19 Oct 21:34

🐛 Fixes

  • Starting music gets a reaction. When music comes on, a roaming companion gets the boombox out and dances straight away, the way a bass drop already brings out the air guitar. If they're mid-air or in the middle of one of the crew's set pieces or a holiday moment, they dance as soon as that's over.
  • Dances no longer stop after a couple of seconds. Music detection used to flicker at the start of a track or in a quiet bar, which cut the dance short. Once music is recognised it now holds through short dips and gaps between tracks.
  • The dance comes back after a break. The dance gets rarer the longer music plays. Before this fix, a long listening session could keep it rare for a long time after the music stopped. Now about ten minutes off brings it back to most of its strength, however long you'd been listening.

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.87.0 — Seasons, weather & the crew on your desktop

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 19 Oct 21:02

✨ Features

  • Weather that follows the seasons. Roaming companions now get rain, thunderstorms, hail, gales and fog, and how often each comes depends on the month. The numbers are real climate averages, so storms come in summer and gales in winter. Out-of-season weather is rarer but can still turn up. In the southern hemisphere the seasons flip.
    • Storm: they jump at the first boom, get the umbrella out and hurry about under it.
    • Hail: stones bounce off their head until the umbrella goes up.
    • Gale: a gust snatches their umbrella and they chase after it.
    • Fog: they peer through it with a lantern.
  • Things to do in each season. Build a snowman (rolled, stacked, then dressed with twig arms, coal, a carrot nose, a scarf and a top hat), skate on an icy patch, eat a melting ice cream, catch falling blossom, or throw a boomerang.
  • Holidays. An Easter egg hunt, a bedsheet ghost at Halloween, a Santa hat and a present at Christmas, and fireworks on New Year's Eve, with a countdown at midnight.
  • The Rexclaw crew's world comes to your desktop. These are rare, big moments:
    • The Rexmaw: the sea rises over the bottom of the screen, the ship sails in and takes your companion aboard to a gun salute.
    • The Kraken: it grabs one of your windows and your companion fights it off.
    • Treasure map: a map of your actual screen leads to a buried chest of doubloons.
    • Gerald the megalodon: he swallows your companion whole, then spits them back out.
    • Sky whale: it loops the loop and belly-flops beside them.
    • Crew visits: Sal, Rex or the Seagull Admiral drops by.
  • Cats, animals and food. With "Play with what's on the screen" on, a cat on your screen gets a meow conversation (your companion wears cat ears). Other animals get petted. Food gets an AWOOGA double take, and then your companion eats it. Because these are rare finds, they jump the queue when they turn up.
  • Snowballs and a water fight now aim at faces in pictures and videos, never on a video call.
  • Hats and ears fit any avatar. The Santa hat and cat ears are fitted to each avatar's own hair.

🐛 Fixes

  • Moving to another monitor while roaming works first time. On displays with different scaling, the first move used to come out the wrong size.
  • Fishing stands up where it sat. Companions no longer snap back to where they were before fishing.
  • Fishing catches more than the Start button. It now picks a different taskbar app each time.
  • Fewer repeats. On a page you're reading, tricks no longer run out of things to play with. Two tricks of different kinds can now follow each other. The music dance comes less often the longer music has been playing, and is fresh again after a break.
  • Retuned odds. Grabbing things off the screen is a little less frequent. Climbing and the screensaver come a little more often, and the Rexmaw is rarer.

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.86.0 — Roaming that stays awake for your streams

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 18 Oct 18:58

✨ Features

  • No naps while you're watching. A roaming companion used to fall asleep after five minutes without mouse or keyboard input, even while you watched a stream, and then greet you with "welcome back" when you moved the mouse. Now anything playing on your computer counts as you being there. They nap only once you're idle and it's quiet, and short notification sounds don't count. On Windows they listen for this whenever they roam, even with the screen tricks off. The sound never leaves your computer.
  • Choose when they nap. Mascot settings → Roaming → "Nap after": never, or after 2, 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes away (5 by default). After midnight they nap sooner, at a fifth of that.

🐛 Fixes

  • No more frozen T-pose in karaoke. Two bundled dances, freestyle-2 and freestyle-5, never moved: they were a single still pose with the arms out. They're removed, leaving twelve dances.
  • Listening is lighter on high-refresh screens. The ears now listen at a steady 60 times a second instead of the display's frame rate, so a 144 Hz monitor no longer costs more CPU, and music detection behaves the same on every screen.

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.85.0 — Roaming companions & screen pointing

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 18 Oct 17:42

✨ Features

  • Your companion roams the desktop. Between calls, the mascot can leave its window and wander your whole screen in ghost mode, with clicks passing through. They walk along the bottom and over your windows, sit on them, hang off them, nap while you're away and peek in from the side. They also doodle, sunbathe, go fishing for icons, ride your mouse pointer, float off on balloons and swing across on webs, among dozens more. When you're back after a while, they come over with a "call me?" sign you can click. Turn it on in Mascot settings → Roaming, from the tray, or with Ctrl+Alt+R, and pick their size there. "Try one now" plays any trick on demand.
  • They play with what's on your screen. With a TypeSafe key, they look at the screen every 20 seconds or so and play with what they find. They eat a link, run off with a tab or a close button, swim across a video, cross out an ad, bonk an error with a hammer, or blow something up with a rocket launcher. Whatever is on your screen goes into those screenshots, so turn "Play with what's on the screen" off before opening anything private.
  • They hear your music (Windows). They dance when music plays, with a boombox, and rock out on air guitar when the bass drops. Talking in a video doesn't count as music. The sound is analysed on your computer and never sent anywhere.
  • Companions point things out on your shared screen. Ask where a button is, or for the next step or the answer to a puzzle, and your companion can circle it. In the desktop app, with your whole screen shared, numbered rings appear over the screen itself for a few seconds. Everywhere, the screenshot with the rings lands in the chat. "Point things out on screen" is on by default per companion when a TypeSafe key is set.

🐛 Fixes

  • Popping out mid-call keeps their outfit. A companion popped out into the mascot during a call no longer switches back to their main outfit while the chosen one is loading.

📝 Docs

  • Roaming in the README. The feature table now lists roaming, in English and Japanese.

Windows has everything. On macOS and Linux they roam along the bottom of the screen, but don't climb windows or hear music.

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.84.0 — Companions act out their tools

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 16 Oct 20:44

✨ Features

  • Companions act out their slow tools. On a call, while a slow tool runs, your companion acts it out until the result is back: pulls out a phone to text another companion, makes a phone call for a delegated task, gathers an orb of light that bursts as a new background lands, paints with palette and brush for a picture, frames the shot with their hands for a video, types on a holographic keyboard for a computer task, or leans in to watch a screen recording. Their own gestures always come first. Turn it off with "Act out slow tools on calls" in Settings or the mascot window.
  • See what they made. A finished picture is held up on an instant print beside their face, and a finished video plays on a little film card, as it lands in the chat.
  • New animations in the Library. The tool animations are listed in the manual gesture picker under tool_motions/.

🐛 Fixes

  • A cough no longer loses your turn. A cough, an echo or music coming back after the duck could count as speech, cut off the reply to what you said, and leave nobody answering. Your turn is now answered.
  • Sound cues at the end of a reply. A reply ending with a cue after its last words, like "[giggles]", no longer fails on ElevenLabs voices.
  • Background music on touch devices. Companions no longer say the music failed when the device only needed a tap to start it.
  • Poker faces. In Hold'em and Liar's Dice, companions now bluff and keep their hand secret instead of saying it out loud after each move.
  • VRChat avatars match the lighting. lilToon materials now follow the app's lighting look like the rest of the avatar.
  • Linux on itch.io updates again. The itch.io Linux download had been stuck on 0.81.0.

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.

v0.83.0 — VRChat avatars & face mapping

Choose a tag to compare

@Codemarchant Codemarchant released this 14 Oct 21:06

✨ Features

  • VRChat avatars look right. Avatars exported with SoulFlame VRM Exporter (Output: SoulFlame) now render with their real lilToon materials instead of the plain fallback, so skin, blush and see-through layers match how they look in Unity. Their eyelid motion, idle loops and animated hair and clothing physics come across too. Compressed VRM files (Draco, meshopt, KTX2 textures) now load as well.
  • Map your avatar's own face shapes. In the avatar editor's Tune face, every face part has a crosshair: pick the model's own shapes for it (search by name, with English hints for common Japanese names), weight them with sliders, or switch the part off.
  • Set up each feeling yourself. Tune face has a new Feelings section. For each feeling and level (light, clear, peak), you can turn the built-in parts off, add other parts, or add any of the model's shapes, such as heart or star eyes. Shapes like these switch on whole as the feeling arrives, so the eyes never go blank half-way.
  • New gestures. Companions can now stretch and kick. Goodbye, sleepy and squat have new animations.
  • Imagine image quality. A new setting next to the Imagine model chooses Auto, Low or Medium quality for grok-imagine-image-2.0 (the default, Auto, works as before).
  • Pinned model defaults. New installs now start on fixed model versions (grok-voice-2.0, grok-4.6, grok-imagine-image-2.0) rather than "latest", so an xAI update can't change a companion's voice overnight. Existing settings are untouched.

🐛 Fixes

  • Calls with Sign in with Grok work again. xAI started refusing calls made through the subscription with "Payment Required", even with unused allowance. Calls now connect directly with the subscription.
  • Rexmaw Raids shows the ship again. The game's sea and glow effects were updated for the new 3D engine version, which had left the bay blank or flashing white.
  • Games update properly. After an app update, games no longer keep running old cached files.
  • Brows no longer change eye size. On avatars without named brow shapes, raising or knitting the brows borrowed a whole expression's eyes (shrinking pupils, half-closing lids and holding back blinks). Brow moves now use the brows alone.
  • Auto-tune on VRChat avatars. Blush and tear layers hidden inside the head no longer make Auto-tune shrink mouths and expressions to almost nothing.
  • Companions run a repeated tool call once. When a voice reply contained the same tool call twice, it no longer runs twice.

📝 Docs

  • Credits and sources. SoulFlame VRM Exporter is listed under "Where to get VRM models", and the new animations and lilToon renderer are credited (English and Japanese README, Credits dialog).

The Windows, macOS and Linux downloads are attached by CI a few minutes after the release goes live.
