v0.5.0 - 2026-09-23

Stock Pi runtime

  • Pi 0.87.1, unmodified. Feynman now runs Pi's own CLI and no longer patches Pi or its packages on disk, renames Pi, or wraps its CLI. It also drops the sealed runtime workspace (the .feynman/runtime-workspace.tgz archive, its hashes, and its lock), which was re-verified on every launch. feynman --help and feynman doctor start in about a second instead of several.
  • Newer Pi packages. pi-subagents 0.71, pi-web-access 0.31, pi-btw 0.6, and pi-docparser 4.0 are now ordinary npm dependencies of Feynman, with their own dependency pins. They load as Pi packages from Feynman's install directory, so subagents see the same tools as the main session. pi-docparser's LiteParse pin (2.10.1) is used as shipped.
  • Newest standard models recommended. With Pi 0.87.1's catalog, setup and feynman model recommend Claude Opus 5.5 and, for OpenAI-only setups, GPT-5.6 Terra (OpenAI's standard tier, the same one pi-web-access picks). Premium tiers such as Claude Fable and Pro models are never picked automatically but stay available through --model and /model.
  • Pi session flags pass through. --continue/-c, --resume/-r, --session <path|id>, --fork <path|id>, --no-session, and --export <session.jsonl> [out.html] now reach Pi instead of being rejected.
  • Settings are written once. Feynman writes its defaults on first run and afterwards only adds missing keys. Package entries from older releases are replaced with the bundled packages, and other packages you added are kept.
  • feynman update and feynman packages install now go through Pi's own pi update --extensions and pi install. Optional packages install into ~/.feynman/agent/npm. Pi and the core packages update when you upgrade Feynman.
  • One-shot runs exit when they finish. The alphaXiv connection now closes when the session ends, so feynman --prompt and JSON runs no longer stay open after answering.
  • Explicit prompts never wait on stdin. feynman --prompt and workflow commands started from a non-interactive parent no longer hang on an idle stdin pipe. Pipe text without --prompt to use it as the prompt.
  • /feynman-model is gone. Use Pi's /model for the main model and pi-subagents' /subagents or subagents.agentOverrides.<name>.model for one subagent. Feynman now sets subagents.agentExcludeDirs to ["~/.agents"], so agent files there no longer silently replace Feynman's bundled agents.
  • Gemini Web cookie access uses pi-web-access's own allowBrowserCookies and browserCookies.profile keys in web-search.json. The Feynman-only geminiBrowser, allowBrowserAuth, browserAuth, and chromeProfile keys are no longer read. Set allowBrowserCookies if you had enabled one of them.
  • Web search config moved to ~/.feynman/agent/web-search.json, where pi-web-access reads it. An existing ~/.feynman/web-search.json is moved there on first launch.
  • Bundled agents, skills, and the theme now load from the Feynman package instead of being copied into ~/.feynman/agent. Copies left by older releases are deleted on first launch unless you edited them; edited copies keep overriding the bundled ones.
  • Telemetry: pi-otel is no longer bundled, so the Pi runtime is not traced. Feynman still sends its own opt-out CLI command events, logs, and spans to PostHog.
