Pickets v1.0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 03 Oct 02:39
v1.0.2
38052a3

Pickets 1.0.2 explains up front that Pickets never moves your files. The app itself is unchanged from 1.0.1.

Download

  • PicketsSetup.exe — recommended; per-user installer with optional desktop shortcut and launch at login. Installing over an earlier version keeps your layout.
  • Pickets.exe — portable app; keep it in a permanent folder before creating shortcuts.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt — checksums for both downloads. GitHub build provenance is available for both executables.

Requires Windows 10 version 1809 or newer, or Windows 11 (x64). No administrator access or separate .NET installation is needed. Downloads are unsigned; see verification guidance.

How Pickets treats your files

Pickets changes how your desktop looks, not where your files live. Nothing is moved, copied, or renamed. When you drop a desktop icon into a picket, the file stays in its original folder and File Explorer shows it exactly as before. Pickets only hides that icon from the desktop and shows it inside the picket. Choose Quit Pickets and every icon goes back to the exact spot it came from.

Changed

  • The installer's notes page now opens with the explanation above, and so does the README.

Validation

All 133 automated tests passed. The release workflow built both downloads and passed the uninstall recovery check.

Pickets v1.0.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 03 Oct 01:06
v1.0.1
a881e87

Pickets 1.0.1 makes dragging pickets feel responsive instead of sticky.

Download

  • PicketsSetup.exe — recommended; per-user installer with optional desktop shortcut and launch at login. Installing over 1.0.0 keeps your layout.

Fixed

  • Pickets no longer stick at their starting alignment for the first few pixels of a drag and then jump. Straight slides still stay on their rail, and snapping now applies for the whole drag.
  • Layout saving and the desktop-icon re-hide scan pause while a picket is dragged or resized, so they no longer interrupt the motion. The final position is saved when the drag ends.
  • Connected pickets move together in one batched update, and the group catches up to the cursor at drag start instead of trailing behind it.

Validation

All 133 automated tests passed. The release workflow built both downloads and passed the uninstall recovery check.

Pickets v1.0.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Sep 18:02
v1.0.0
b4bfd24

Pickets is a free, open-source desktop organizer for Windows. Keep files, folders, and shortcuts in movable groups that collapse into a tidy stack.

Download

  • PicketsSetup.exe — recommended; per-user installer with optional desktop shortcut and launch at login.

Highlights

  • Connected, collapsible groups with automatic sizing up to two icon rows.
  • Rectangle selection, bulk actions, and multi-item dragging.
  • Ctrl+F to find references; Ctrl+Z to undo supported organizing actions.
  • Ten color themes, subtle gradients, optional blur, and keyboard controls.
  • Saved layouts for monitor arrangements and desktop-icon recovery.

Your original files stay in place. Follow the first-run guide to turn off desktop auto-arrange and align-to-grid. Choose Quit Pickets to restore captured desktop icons.

Validation and coverage

All 133 automated tests passed, including reference ownership and recovery cases. The release workflow also builds both downloads and checks uninstall recovery. The maintainer passed installation/first-run, organizing/undo, Quit/reopen, and uninstall smoke checks on the pre-release candidate. The release uses the same application source with finalized documentation.

Live coverage for Windows 10, mixed-monitor/DPI setups, and Narrator remains unverified. Please report issues with reproduction steps and sanitized diagnostics.
