Zitatlotse 0.30.0 — Faster search

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@Cuzimnero Cuzimnero released this 31 Oct 15:12

Experimental release for Zotero 10 on Windows x64.

  • Earlier results: initially check up to 40 BERTScore candidates; continue through pagination.
  • Fewer AI calls, larger evidence batches and reusable vector caches.
  • Compare workflows under Settings → Search speed → Try search acceleration.

Initial rankings are provisional. Full evidence assessment still checks all retrieved passages. Existing indexes and saved quotations are preserved.

Verified: 136 Python tests, three JavaScript programs, XPI integrity and isolated startup/restart checks. No live cloud benchmark or native visual verification.

Install Zitatlotse-0.30.0.xpi through Zotero's add-on manager and restart. Source archives and checksums are included below.

Zitatlotse 0.29.0 — new interface, startup fixes and search modes

@Cuzimnero Cuzimnero released this 15 Oct 21:04

Zitatlotse 0.29.0 — navy, pink and cyan interface

Experimental release for Zotero 10.0.x on Windows x64. Install the XPI through Zotero's add-on manager and restart Zotero. Existing indexes, settings and saved quotations are preserved; no embedding rebuild is needed for this update.

  • The add-on window now uses dark navy surfaces, blue gradient cards, thin slate borders and brighter typography, inspired by the supplied reference.
  • Primary actions use pink gradients. Cyan highlights active tabs, keyboard focus, the chat outline and animated progress bars.
  • Inputs, provider/model selectors, saved quotes, evidence panels and document relevance views share the new palette. Pro/contra and relevance-category colors retain their meanings.
  • The top-right close control, responsive layout, opening/closing animation, session history and search behavior are retained. Native Zotero chrome is unchanged.
  • Includes the existing hidden Windows helper startup, startup readiness correction and Normal/Fast search modes.
  • Packed-XPI startup reads bundled resources through Zotero's local resource channel. A healthy worker can finish preparation even if the setup-process exit callback is delayed.
  • Normal mode uses BERTScore; Fast mode skips it for direct, AI and evidence searches. Fast results may be less accurate. Existing result pages keep the mode they started with.
  • Adds 14 generated-PDF/SQLite/HTTP system tests and a repeatable per-test reporting harness. The detailed catalogue explains all 127 Python test methods and remaining manual checks.

Verification

  • 123 backend test methods and 4 installation-manifest methods passed (127 total), with deterministic model/provider doubles and generated PDFs.
  • All three JavaScript test programs passed: Zotero integration, window/session logic and startup orchestration.
  • The exact release XPI passed integrity and source-match checks, fresh isolated setup without external Python, completion to 100%, process-loss restart and preservation of the test database.
  • No cloud API calls or model downloads were made in this expanded run.

These are not real model-quality benchmarks. Native Zotero visual verification of the new theme and a real Windows reboot remain pending. Existing screenshots show the previous interface. See test status and the testing guide.

Downloads

  • Zitatlotse-0.29.0.xpi: installable add-on with the bundled Windows runtime.
  • Zitatlotse-0.29.0-source.zip: project source, documentation and tests.
  • third-party-sources.zip: corresponding third-party sources.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for the three archives above.

Automatic add-on updates remain disabled; install this XPI manually. Original project code is MIT; dependencies and models retain their own licenses.

Zitatlotse 0.27.1 — Zotero installation fix

Zitatlotse 0.27.1 — installation fix

Experimental prerelease for Zotero 10 on Windows x64.

Fixed

Version 0.27.0 removed the applications.zotero.update_url field during publication. Zotero requires this field even when installing an XPI manually. The missing field caused the generic "may be incompatible" installation error, despite the correct Zotero version range.

Version 0.27.1 restores the field with a real HTTPS update endpoint. The endpoint is a valid empty update feed; automatic upgrades are not offered yet. The add-on ID and Zotero compatibility range remain the same.

Packaging now rejects manifests missing Zotero's required installation fields. Regression tests cover the omitted update URL, missing version bounds and placeholder endpoints. Service health and runtime checks use the corrected release version.

Install

Download Zitatlotse-0.27.1.xpi, choose Tools → Plugins → Install Plugin From File in Zotero and select the downloaded XPI. Restart Zotero when prompted. Use this file instead of the rejected 0.27.0 package.

The XPI includes the Windows x64 runtime and local search service. Model weights download on first use. Existing library data, saved quotations and model caches are preserved by the installer.

The source archive, corresponding third-party sources and SHA256SUMS.txt are included for review and license compliance. Original project code is MIT; external components retain their own licenses. Search quality and other previously documented prototype limitations are unchanged.

Zitatlotse 0.27.0 — superseded; use 0.27.1

@Cuzimnero Cuzimnero released this 09 Oct 15:56

Installation issue: use Zitatlotse 0.27.1 instead. The 0.27.0 XPI is missing the update URL required by Zotero and can be rejected as incompatible. This release is retained for history.

Zitatlotse 0.27.0 — complete XPI installation

Experimental prerelease for Zotero 10 on Windows x64.

Installation

Download Zitatlotse-0.27.0.xpi, install it in Zotero through Tools → Add-ons → Install Add-on From File, then restart Zotero.

The XPI includes Python, CPU libraries and the local search service. Zotero handles setup and startup automatically, with a progress bar. No separate Python installation or manual service launch is needed. Search models download when first used. Ollama is optional and must be installed separately for local AI.

Included features

Local multi-stage quotation search, library/collection selection, AI chat, optional agentic calls with an activity view, supporting/opposing evidence, document relevance chart, navigation and highlighting in Zotero's PDF reader, saved quotations with notes and CSL citation styles, provider/model selection and compatible custom Hugging Face encoders. The source archive contains detailed descriptions in docs/.

Changes

  • Complete local runtime included in the XPI.
  • Zotero handles setup, updates and service startup.
  • Retry setup after failures and check service availability every 30 seconds.
  • Updates preserve the index, model cache and saved quotations.
  • Package setup tested without Python on the search path or API calls.

Downloads and notes

The XPI is all you need for normal use. The project source and corresponding third-party source archives are available for review and license compliance; SHA256SUMS.txt contains their checksums.

Initial model setup can take time. OCR, an ANN index and automatic XPI updates are not included. Search quality needs further evaluation. A real Windows reboot still needs separate testing.

Original project code: MIT. External libraries and models retain their own licenses; bundled PyMuPDF/MuPDF builds are under AGPL. Cloud providers may charge for API requests.
