fusion_mcp_status reports activeDesign when Fusion is connected: whether a design is open, read from the Fusion360MCP add-in itself. It calls the add-in's read-only get_design_type, which reads the active document's Design product the way every design command does (_design(), addon/server/command_handler.py:310-332 and :3555-3563 at the pinned 86a3016a5a5b). Success means a design is open. The add-in's own error kind NO_ACTIVE_DESIGN (addon/server/hints.py:17-19, rendered as **get_design_type** ERROR (NO_ACTIVE_DESIGN) by src/fusion360_mcp/server.py:122) means none is: Fusion is on its Home tab, and the pinned add-in refuses every design command, fusion_mcp_new_design included, until one is open (faust issue #12). Any other answer leaves activeDesign out (unknown). Clients such as Counterpart read this field instead of matching Fusion's error wording. Checked with the bridge's fake Fusion MCP: an open design, no design, another error, and the add-in not answering. Not run against a live Fusion.
