Super Mario All-Stars PC, Steam Deck & Android Edition V1.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Darhkfox Darhkfox released this 06 Nov 14:59

Super Mario All-Stars, rebuilt for today: a native port for Windows, Steam Deck / Linux and Android of Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3.

No game data is included. You need your own Super Mario All-Stars (USA) ROM (CRC32 925637C7), dumped from your own cartridge. Please don't ask for ROMs. This is a free fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo.

What's new in 1.1.1

  • Update notifications: the launcher now tells you when a newer version is out. Once a day it looks up the latest release here on GitHub and shows an "Update available" badge. Select it, or use Options › Updates › Get Version, to open the download page. Nothing about you or your games is sent, nothing is downloaded or installed by itself, and you can turn it off or use Check Now under Options › Updates. (On Android the app now asks for internet access, for this check only.)
  • Music Volume and Sound Effects Volume (Options › Audio): turn the music off and keep the sound effects, or the other way round. Works with music packs too. (This was added to 1.1 shortly after release, so some 1.1 downloads don't have it.)

For everything new in 1.1 (custom soundtracks, game covers, menu styles, the Steam Deck version and more), see the 1.1 release.

Downloads

  • Windows: SuperMarioAllStars-PC-v1.1.1.zip. Unzip it anywhere and run SuperMarioAllStars.exe. Updating? Copy your saves folder, smas_port.ini and achievements.ini over from your old folder (and msu / covers if you use them).
  • Steam Deck / Linux: SuperMarioAllStars-Linux-x86_64.AppImage. Replace your old AppImage with it; your saves and settings in ~/.local/share/SuperMarioAllStars stay as they are.
  • Android: SuperMarioAllStars-Android-v1.1.1.apk. Install it over your current version; your saves stay. This APK is debug-signed.

Found a bug? Please open an issue with as much detail as you can (what you did, which game and level, your settings, and a save state if possible).

Licences

  • The port's own code is MIT.
  • librashader: MPL-2.0.
  • The slang shader presets: GPL-2.0 or public domain, as listed in shaders/README.txt.
  • Luckiest Guy font: Apache-2.0.
  • stb_image: public domain / MIT.

What's new in 1.1

  • Custom soundtracks (MSU-1): play with MSU-1 music packs, in the games and in the Music Player. Both the standard patch and the "Super Mario All-Stars Deluxe" patch work, including Deluxe's mixed-up music from level to level. Put a pack (its .bps or .ips patch and .pcm tracks) in its own folder in the msu folder, then choose it under Options › Audio › Music Pack. Your ROM file is never changed. No packs are included.
  • Music Volume and Sound Effects Volume: turn the music off and keep the sound effects, or the other way round (Options › Audio). Works with music packs too.
  • Game covers and your own background for the launcher. Add PNG or JPG files to the covers folder (on Android, pick them from your phone). Covers are shown whole by default. No covers are included.
  • Four menu styles: Storybook (the new default), Retro, Themed Dark, and Classic (the v1.0 look). The launcher's buttons follow the style too.
  • Steam Deck / Linux version (AppImage).
  • NES Brick Bounce option: in Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels, breaking a brick sends Mario back down, as on the NES.
  • Menu Buttons option: confirm with the bottom button (Xbox layout) or the right one (Nintendo layout).
  • Achievement export: a CSV file plus a badge for each achievement, ready for PlayniteAchievements' spreadsheet import.
  • Menu descriptions now wrap onto more lines instead of shrinking.

Smoother and fixed

  • Faster launcher, and smoother play on slower PCs and phones.
  • Fixed the game slowing down with G-SYNC / VSync on some high refresh rate screens.
  • Widescreen fixes: kicked shells, fireball explosions, mushrooms and enemies that missed Luigi in co-op, and more.
  • The Windows zip now keeps its folders on Linux and Wine.
  • Lots of smaller bug fixes.

Downloads

  • Windows: SuperMarioAllStars-PC-v1.1.zip. Unzip it anywhere, run SuperMarioAllStars.exe, and choose your ROM when asked. Updating from 1.0? Copy your saves folder, smas_port.ini and achievements.ini over from the old folder. See README.txt inside for controls and options.
  • Steam Deck / Linux: SuperMarioAllStars-Linux-x86_64.AppImage. Make it executable and run it (Desktop Mode, or add it to Steam as a non-Steam game). Your saves and settings go in ~/.local/share/SuperMarioAllStars.
  • Android: SuperMarioAllStars-Android-v1.1.apk. Install it over 1.0 (allow installs from this source), then pick your ROM file from the game card. This APK is debug-signed.

Found a bug? Please open an issue with as much detail as you can (what you did, which game and level, your settings, and a save state if possible).
