@Doctordefector Doctordefector released this 09 Oct 05:12

Lyrenne now runs on Linux (preview)

.deb (Ubuntu, Debian, Mint) and .rpm (Fedora) packages are attached. They install to /opt/lyrenne, add a lyrenne command and a menu entry, and pull in VLC from your distro.

sudo apt install ./lyrenne_2.15.0_amd64.deb # Ubuntu / Debian / Mint
sudo dnf install ./lyrenne-2.15.0-1.x86_64.rpm # Fedora
  • Library and settings live in ~/.local/share/lyrenne, downloads go to ~/Music/Lyrenne.
  • Sign-in uses Firefox if you have it (Snap Firefox included), otherwise Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Brave or Vivaldi. If none of those works, use Advanced: paste a cookie on the sign-in screen.
  • Media keys, the GNOME/KDE media widget and playerctl work. GNOME has no tray, so closing the window quits there.
  • Car/USB export needs ffmpeg from your package manager.
  • Updates on Linux come from new packages; the app tells you when one is out.

This is a preview: install and startup are tested on Ubuntu and Fedora, but sign-in and playback on real Linux desktops have had little testing so far. Bug reports welcome.

  • Signed updates. Releases are now signed, and this version checks the signature before installing future updates.
  • Back keeps your place. Going back to an album, artist or playlist restores it and your scroll position instead of reloading from the top.
  • Player bar. Seek and volume bars are clearly visible, with a small handle that grows on hover. Player buttons have tooltips with their keyboard shortcuts. A restored song shows its length right away instead of 0:00.
  • Settings. A section list for jumping around on wide windows, and a filter box to find a setting.
  • Library. Signed out, it shows a sign-in prompt instead of a "Not logged in" error. One sign-in button in the side bar instead of two.
  • Home shelves get ‹ › scroll buttons on hover.
  • Sign-in works with Firefox on Windows too, as a fallback when Edge, Chrome and Brave are missing, and no longer needs PowerShell.
  • Theme follows Windows' light/dark setting while the app is open.
  • Reliability. Settings are saved safely, so a crash can no longer wipe them, and dragging the volume slider no longer rewrites the settings file dozens of times a second. If Lyrenne can't write to its folder (for example under Program Files) it now says so. Closing with "minimize to tray" on can no longer hide the window with no way back when the tray failed to load. Skipping tracks no longer leaves stream lookups running in the background.

Windows: download Lyrenne-2.15.0-portable.zip as before; existing installs update themselves. The .sig file is for the updater.
