Trier Bridge 1.0.0
Trier Bridge 1.0.0 — everything you know, Linux underneath.
A Windows-to-Linux experience layer for Ubuntu 24.04 Desktop: the places, names, and tools a Windows user already knows, opened onto the real Linux underneath.
Install
Download trier-bridge_1.0.0_all.deb below.
- Without a terminal: right-click the file in Files → Open With → App Center, tick Always use for this file type, press Install. From then on a double-click installs.
- With a terminal:
sudo apt install ./trier-bridge_1.0.0_all.deb
Requires only what Ubuntu Desktop already ships (Python 3, GTK 4, libadwaita). Nothing runs as root; changes that need permission go through Linux's own prompt each time. Everything the app writes stays in your home folder.
What's inside
- Everyday: Home search over the Windows vocabulary; Files with an in-app browser and drive letters shown as labels over real Linux paths; Apps with provenance and a Default apps chooser; Settings routed to the desktop's own panels; Printers; Network as a translation layer over NetworkManager.
- Troubleshooting: Task Manager with End task and a live Performance tab (CPU, memory, every disk, every adapter); Event Viewer; Device Manager; Startup Apps; Disk Management.
- Advanced: Services through polkit; Command Prompt and PowerShell names as typed operations — nothing is ever passed to a shell; System Information.
- Integrations, chosen at setup and each reversible: tray icon, desktop search that understands Windows words, familiar launchers, a Files context-menu entry, Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Shell: branded sidebar with an adjustable accent color, zoom control, About page.
Verification
Gated on a real Ubuntu 24.04 desktop with tests against real files, processes, and services (no mocks); reproducible, lintian-clean package; 258 invariants with evidence tied to commit hashes (docs/VALIDATION.md).
